Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What is the length of the receiver unit including the antennas?

A: The Sony URX-P41D Dual-Channel Camera-Mount Wireless Receiver measures 2.8 inches in height, and its antennas add another 5 inches for a total length of just under 8 inches.

Q: 2. Are there other frequency range units available?

A: I'm sorry, but that system is only available within one frequency range. For more available ranges, I would recommend considering the more professional EW 100 G4 systems, like these: https://bhpho.to/3a3qpaM

Q: 3. Could this be paired with a EW100 G3 receiver?

A: The Sennheiser SKM 835-XSW-A handheld transmitter with e835 capsule (A: 548 to 572 MHz) is not compatible with the EW100 G3 series receiver.

Q: 4. Can this receiver be as a IFB to monitor audio?

A: Yes, the Sony URX-P40 Camera-Mount Wireless Receiver does have a 3.5mm headphone jack which can be used to monitor audio, so it could be used for an IFB application.

Q: 5. Can you change the capsule of this transmitter to something like an sE electronics v7 capsule or a telefunken capsule

A: The Sennheiser SKM 825-XSW-A Handheld Transmitter is specified for use with Sennheiser Evolution series capsules and is not compatible with third party microphone capsules from brands such as sE Electronics or Telefunken.

Q: 6. Can you use 2 of these units with one body pack transmitter. Use case would be put one receiver on camera for monitoring and one receiver into audio recorder as a way of having redundancy in recordings.

A: Yes, two Sony URX-P40 Camera-Mount Wireless Receivers can be used with a single transmitter, as long as both the transmitter and the receivers are set to the same wireless channel.

Q: 7. Is there a separate XLR out for each channel?

A: Yes, the Sennheiser EM-XSW 1 Dual-Channel Stationary Receiver has separate XLR and 1/4" outputs for each channel.

Q: 8. If URX-P40 receiver is backwards compatible for use with an older UTX-B2 Is it legal or not to use in USA the old Sony UTX-B2 Transmitter because it uses the frequencies 638.125-661.875 MHz ? I've heard that using microphones in this range is noy legal anymore. Can someone clarify this?

A: The FCC recently made changes to regulations for use of the 600 MHz band within the United States. Frequencies above 616 MHz are now designated for broadband use and can no longer be used for operating wireless microphones. More details are available here: https://www.fcc.gov/consumers/guides/operation-wireless-microphones

Q: 9. Is the SMAD-P5 MI Shoe Adapter included, or a separate purchase?

A: The Sony SMAD-P5 Digital MI Shoe Adapter for UWP-D Series (B&H #SOSMADP5) is not included with the Sony URX-P40 Camera-Mount Wireless Receiver.

Q: 10. Can you connect two UTX-B40 to one URX-P40? A use case would be two people talking, each person with a UTX-B40 and a URX-P40 connected to a camera that is recording kind of like a discussion/interview between two people

A: No, the URX-P40 is a single-channel receiver that can be used with one transmitter only. For two people, you will want the Sony URX-P03D Dual-Channel Camera-Mount Wireless Receiver - UC14: 470 to 542 MHz (B&H # SOURXP03D14) which is a two-channel receiver that can be used with two transmitters at the same time. We do sell a kit that includes the URX-P03D receiver and two UTX-B40 transmitters with lavalier mics and a case, which is the Sony UWP-D 2-Person Camera-Mount Wireless Omni Lavalier Microphone System Kit - UC14: 470 to 542 MHz (B&H # SOURXP03D14Q). The URX-P03D can send one signal to the camera with the combined audio from both mics.

[Supercardioid] I already own 2 QLXD mics with the distro and Antenna fins and have never had an issue.  I live in NJ and for all the ocean/beach/NYC events with all sorts of wireless going on around me, they’ve been stellar.  So I purchased two more for a compact system when I don’t need to carry my bigger rack system.  And the beauty of it, is when I need to use four mics I can hook these two up two my Shure distro system!  I also opted for the sm58Beta heads on my mics.  the ordering and delivery from B&H was spot on and they always do a great shop in their service.

[Off/On Switch] Our church bought a large batch of these to replace our ULX systems that were in an outdated frequency band. We liked our ULX and had them for years, but these are a definite step up.
The mic body is made of metal and feels very solid. The power switch is sturdy too, and gives a tactile click so you can be sure you turned it on without having to look.
The range seems very good. We use these at a distance of 60-70 feet, and the signal is very strong using just the antennas that come with the unit.
One thing these do way better than the ULX is battery life. These use AAs (compared to 9V for the ULX), and we get around 10 hours of battery life out of them (compared to about 3 with the ULX). We use NiMH rechargeables, and they work just fine.
These QLXDs will be our go-to in the future for sure.

[10 mW] First unit arrived DOA but B&H send me a new one super fast (thanks B&H). Great sound quality and great RF performance in a noisy spectrum. I love the sync feature and encryption. The only cons: the battery compartment is very delicate and you have to be very careful not to brake the small door.

[50 Hz to 16 kHz] I've been bringing THREE of this same system out to various venues at least once a week for a few years, and they always performed flawlessly for both speaking and singing. Now I've bought TWO more for permanent use at our local church and they work and sound GREAT for speaking and singing there, too! Crystal clear, no static, no interference - perfect, excellent, GREAT!!!

[Supercardioid] It is easy to set up, it's use for a large church, good sound as expected. I purchased Panasonic AA rechargeable batteries with it, everything went as planned. Very happy how both products work.
