Portabrace Ar-zh5 Case For Zoom H5 Recorder

  • Availability: In Stock

Designed to fit Zoom H5 Handy Recorders, the PortaBrace AR-ZH5 Case for Zoom H5 Recorderis a carrying case made out of durable 1000D cordura nylon, keeping it safe from abrasions whilst in the field. The case offers easy access to controls and I/O, all while providing protection. Cable outlets and display windows are secured by touch-fasteners; when you pull them apart, you can access volume controls, the interchangeable capsule mounted to the top of the H5, cable entries, and more.

Open the front panel of the case and you'll find the display protected by a clear vinyl screen, one that lets you view your levels and recording time with ease. The H5 has two prominent analog volume dials for input level adjustment of microphones, and the AR-ZH5 takes this into account: a black, fabric bar overlays on top of these dials, so that you don't jostle them accidentally.

Should you wish to clip the case to a strap or belt loop, a small attachment point is provided. The item, however, does not come with a strap or a belt loop. The case is lightweight at 0.2 lb.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can I connect Sennheiser ME66/K6 mic to this?

A: Yes. It has 2 xlr inputs.

Q: 2. Does this make 2 left and right mono channel? Meaning, will it make exact same left and right channel like you can do in Zoom Hn4?

A: Yes.

Q: 3. What cables should I absolutely purchase with this?

A: I record from RODE wireless lav mics. So, a couple mini-plug to XLR adapters have come in handy.

Q: 4. Will the rode videomic rycote work flawlessly with this. And is this an worthy upgrade to my H1?

A: It should. You'll be able to plug it in, and play with the levels and such off the recorder. This should be a sufficient upgrade for you. This recorder has multiple functions in it, and it's form factor feels amazing.

Q: 5. Can I hook my Sennheiser MKE 600 Shotgun Microphone to the Zoom H5 recorder and record simultaneously?

A: Yes, the Sennheiser MKE 600 Shotgun Microphone can be connected to the Zoom H5 Portable Handy Recorder and used to record audio directly to the H5 Recorder.

Q: 6. In multi-track recording mode, can I set one channel to record a line-level input, while the other channel receives a mic-level signal?

A: Input 1 and 2 (XLR connectors) are two mono inputs. Each has a seperate gain control knob on the body of H5. It is absolutely possible to set one channel to record at line level and the other to record at mic level. There is also a stereo line/mic input (the L/R input) on the XYH-5 mic module that is shipped with H5. This stereo input (TRS connector) has only one gain control knob. The knob is on the mic module, not on the body of H5. This knob adjust recording levels of both stereo channels of the TRS input at the same time. Therefore it is not possible to record the two channels of the L/R input at different levels (theoretically you can use a split-cable with in-line physical attenuators. But I do not recommand you do this). And since the L/R channel has its own knob on the mic module, it is also possible that you record stereo at line level from the L/R input while at the same time record at mic level with the XLR inputs.P.S. The capability of recording different channels at different levels is not determined by in which mode you are recording (multi-track or stereo). The capability of recording different channels at different levels is determined by the gain control knobs. The multi-track and stereo recording mode are about how the recorded files are stored in the memory card. In multi-track mode, recording from the L/R stereo input is stored as a stereo file while recordings from the 1 and 2 inputs are stored as two seperate mono files. In stereo mode you can also record more than two channels. But if there are more than two channels recorded, all channels will be recorded together into a single stereo file. In multi track mode, you are able to adjust record volumes after recording since all channels are stored in seperate files. In stereo modes, if you are recording more than two channels, you have to pay serious attention to the gain control knobs since you are not able to adjust volumes independently AFTER recording. If more than two channels are recorded at stereo mode, at least one channel will be mixed with another channel in the stereo file.

Q: 7. I want to record my film dialogue with my boom mic and connect it to this. dose this have this feature where i can record one track at lower DB and the other normal?

A: Dear Nachoketh, I understand what you are trying to do, you want to separate the same track and record 3db difference between the two. You can do this by splitting the input with a Y connector, but the question I have for you is why do this? A good sound recordist doesn't need two tracks of the same thing because he or she gets it right the first time. Only once did a producer ask me to do that and I was insulted because it implied I didn't know how to record sound. The recordist should wear headphones and hear what is being recorded. You adjust the volume accordingly. This unit is a digital recorder, it is great for voice or music but might offer problems with effects. Large sound, like explosions, or gun shots are tough to record in digital mode because to make them sound correct you need to over-record, but with digital you can't. There are tricks you can do in post by slowing the sound down and pushing the volume. That can work. Good luck. Best, Jonathan Slon.

Q: 8. Can I use the stereo mini plug input along with the 2 XLR inputs to record 4 chanels?

A: I haven't used it as stereo input, but i have used it as a mono input for another lavalier and it works great

Q: 9. Does this case have the ability to support the clip on battery at the bottom?

A: It depends on the size of the external battery that you want to use with the Zoom F6 Multi-Track Field Recorder. There is a small amount of space available in the case which might work to accommodate a small external battery.

Q: 10. Can I use Sennheiser ME66/K6 - Super-Cardioid Short Shotgun Condenser Microphone Kit on this for audio recording?

A: You should be able to use the Sennheiser ME66/K6. The Zoom H5 has two XLR connectors. The Zoom H5 is an excellent piece of audio mixer/recorder. I use it all the time for my Video Productions.

[Empty] The Pre-amps on this are amazing. Better than the H4N especially for the price.

[Black] Works well, easy to use and a lot quitter than a previously purchased digital Recoder made by another manufacturer.

[Black] Small and light for location work has all the essentials. My F8 is a perfect fit, room for a couple of wireless mics. Pretty easy to connect cables and the zipper bottom has been handy for changing batteries oh, and the price is right!

[Black] I purchased the H5 after using an H4n, drawn by the interchangeable microphone cartridges. So far, however, I've been perfectly happy with the stock x-y set, though have missed the 120 degree setting on the H4n once or twice. I've also been using it as a USB audio interface for my laptop and it worked with Logic Pro X with zero setup. Audio quality is great and the construction is sturdy, if a little bulky.

[Empty] I found this very user-friendly. Only used for one shoot thus far, with the Zoom EXH-6 Dual XLR/TRS unit (using 3 lapel and one shotgun) and worked a charm. Love the dual record at 20db less for when the levels topped out. Excellent little machine that will get a lot of use for broadcast TV and lesser productions.

[Black] to protect my new Zoom H5. It certainly does that. Makes the whole system bulky, but that is expected. The bottom part of the case is there to deal with XLR cable connectors - but if nothing is plugged into the bottom of the H5, then that bottom part of the case can be used to store small accessories or extra batteries, memory cards, etc.The belt-mount is a nice touch, no access to the 1/4x20 mount on the back of the H5. As with all Porta Brace gear, all the seams are strong, the product quality is great and the hook/loop implementation is robust.Used to record audio at an outdoor horse ring. The rings are watered, but there is still some doubt. This case provides great protection from the dust. Use the foam windscreen that came with the H5 or the fuzzy that came with the H5 accessory pack.Made in USA!!!

[Black] If you're a musician or a videographer in any way, shape or form, you should get this product without hesitation. A great video needs great audio and this is the tool to get that great audio at a cheep price. A video review would do the H5 far more justice than a few words but put simply, the quality of this product side by side with the Rode doesn't compare. The Rode video mic is great for run and gun but the zoom is pretty damn compact. Once you take the detachable mic off the top, it's about the size of the iPod one. The navigation of the system'a sophware is strait forward and user friendly. I haven't found anything about the product so far that I don't like other than the free memory card that comes with it only being 3 gigs. Perfect for recording live shows and almost any type of video production. You won't be let down by this one.

[Empty] Porta-Brace produces are first rate, and the Zoom F8 bag is no exception. There may be better choices, depending on your application. The Z8 case is ideal if you have multiple wireless mics in the side pocket, and need a shoulder-ready, run-and-gun kit. There are sleeves on each side with access to the XLR ports, but it takes a flashlight and steady hand to connect wired mics. There is no tight cover, per se, but a flexible, clear dome protects the contents from drips, while allowing access to the controls. In my case, I found a Porta-Brace CAR-1 or CAR-2 is a better fit. The CAR cases come with a long partition and several lateral partitions. The Zoom F7 can go in one section, and be protected with headphones, microphones and a power supply in other sections. Everything is readily accessible through a zippered top flap.
