Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is the SSH-6 compatible with the Zoom F1? I have seen both yes and no. If so, does the F1 give customization options to change amount of ambient input like the H6?

A: yes just tried the F1 and SSH-6 combo and this is possible. By cycling through the REC LEVEL button you control the side mic level. Options are StGUN OFF, StGUN 30, StGUN 60, StGUN 90, StGUN 120, StGUN 150

Q: 2. if I place this device 18 away from my mouth, what is the gain level to reach -12db, and at what gain level before I can hear self-noise?

A: I don't know but this mic is the best mic I have used on this recorder!!

Q: 3. Will this mic fit in the skb 1209 case? I read here that it won't due to its longer length compared to the other model shotgun mic

A: The SKB iSeries Waterproof Case for Zoom H6 Recorder and Mic Modules available on our site is customized to fit the Zoom SGH-6 Shotgun Microphone which is slightly smaller than the Zoom SSH-6 Stereo Shotgun Microphone.

Q: 4. Is the AA battery 1.2v or 1.5v?

A: The Sennheiser SKM 500 G4 Wireless Handheld Transmitter can run on either a pair of 1.5v AA batteries or the optional rechargeable battery pack.

Q: 5. Does the ZOOM f8 output in B and A format for use in external applications?

A: According to page 23 in the manual for the F8 I am only seeing that it supports recording to Polywav as of right now.

Q: 6. I'm wondering: is the SSH-6 as good as the SGH-6 in terms of directional 'power'? Or do i need to move it closer to the subject than with the SGH-6?

A: I conducted several tests using both the SGH-6 and the SSH-6. The SSH-6 is 1 inch longer than the SGH-6. The end of the microphone was moved back by 1 inch for each SSH-6 test. So, the distance from the end of the microphone to my mouth was always the same for both. I conducted the tests at 6 inches, 1 foot, 2 feet, and 3 feet. In each case to achieve a level above 12 dB but below 6 dB I adjusted the gain on the microphone. In all cases the two microphones required the same gain. The side stereo level on the SSH-6 was set to 0 dBfor all test. So, I would say to your question, Yes, the power and beam for the shotgun portion of the two microphones are the same.

Q: 7. does the SSH-6 require phantom power?

A: No idea, but as long as you connect it to a Zoom audio module like the F1 (the one I have), etc... it will be powered. This is for sure not a stand alone mic. It is designed to be used on capsule compatible zoom recorders. Not your question but let me tell you this thing is amazing ! Cheers.

Q: 8. What's the max dB SPL this mic can handle? thanks

A: A maximum SPL rating for the Zoom SSH-6 Stereo Shotgun Microphone Capsule for H5, H6, U-44 and Q8 has not been provided by the manufacturer.

Q: 9. What are the exact dimensions of the ssh-6 microphone?

A: Exact dimensions for the Zoom SSH-6 Stereo Shotgun Microphone Capsule for H5, H6, U-44 and Q8 have not been provided by Zoom.

Q: 10. how many handheld mics can connect to this system at the same time ?

A: The receiver will only connect with one mic at a time.

[Dynamic] First unit arrived DOA but B&H send me a new one super fast (thanks B&H). Great sound quality and great RF performance in a noisy spectrum. I love the sync feature and encryption. The only cons: the battery compartment is very delicate and you have to be very careful not to brake the small door.

[1.15 lb] I already own 2 QLXD mics with the distro and Antenna fins and have never had an issue.  I live in NJ and for all the ocean/beach/NYC events with all sorts of wireless going on around me, they’ve been stellar.  So I purchased two more for a compact system when I don’t need to carry my bigger rack system.  And the beauty of it, is when I need to use four mics I can hook these two up two my Shure distro system!  I also opted for the sm58Beta heads on my mics.  the ordering and delivery from B&H was spot on and they always do a great shop in their service.

[Handheld] Our church bought a large batch of these to replace our ULX systems that were in an outdated frequency band. We liked our ULX and had them for years, but these are a definite step up.
The mic body is made of metal and feels very solid. The power switch is sturdy too, and gives a tactile click so you can be sure you turned it on without having to look.
The range seems very good. We use these at a distance of 60-70 feet, and the signal is very strong using just the antennas that come with the unit.
One thing these do way better than the ULX is battery life. These use AAs (compared to 9V for the ULX), and we get around 10 hours of battery life out of them (compared to about 3 with the ULX). We use NiMH rechargeables, and they work just fine.
These QLXDs will be our go-to in the future for sure.

[Analog UHF ] I've been bringing THREE of this same system out to various venues at least once a week for a few years, and they always performed flawlessly for both speaking and singing. Now I've bought TWO more for permanent use at our local church and they work and sound GREAT for speaking and singing there, too! Crystal clear, no static, no interference - perfect, excellent, GREAT!!!

[Battery] I vacillated over which mic I should buy to pair up with my acoustic guitar and my Fender Acoustic Junior amp. This turned out to be ideal.

[12] Always a great choice for vocals, this mic was purchased for just that. We used it last week for a live performance with our female singer, and it sounded nice and lively with her voice.
The fact that ~$40 worth of extras was included for only $10 more was the icing on the cake. The stand feels solid and will hold up well I think. The included mic cable is being kept as a spare, but with Neutrik connectors I dont forsee any issues in the future.
