The Lensbaby Edge 80 Sweet 50 Optics Macro Converter Kitis an 80mm f/2.8-22 flat field optic with an adjustable 12-blade aperture. This optic is specifically designed to be used in conjunction with a Lensbaby lens body to give you a slice of sharp focus, surrounded by soft blur. The size of the in-focus region varies depending on the aperture and the location of it can be modified by the degree and direction of tilt. The selective focus effect produced is especially desirable for close-up photography, as this lens can focus as close as 17" / 43.2cm when fully extended.

This optic is composed of 5 multi-coated glass elements within 4 groups and the 12 rounded aperture blades produce an extremely smooth bokeh. It is compatible with the Lensbaby Composer Pro, Composer, Muse, Scout, and Control Freak lens bodies (Not compatible with the Composer with Tilt Transformer for Micro Four Thirds and Sony NEX cameras).

When used in conjunction with a Lensbaby lens body, this optic can provide a controllable sliver of focus surrounded by a smooth, out of focus border.

Size of selective focus region is controlled by the aperture; location of the region can be modified by tilting the lens.

Rounded 12-blade aperture creates a smooth bokeh and is controlled by a dial on the front of the optic.

Focus as close as 17" / 43.2cm when lens is fully extended, in macro mode, and tilted.

Compatible with the Lensbaby Composer Pro, Composer, Muse, Scout, and Control Freak lens bodies (Not compatible with the Composer with Tilt Transformer for Micro Four Thirds and Sony NEX cameras).

46mm front filter threads allow compatibility with Lensbaby Macro Converters, but do not work with 37mm accessories.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does the optic of this lens support for 50 Pixels camera (Ex. Canon 5ds/5ds r)?

A: It covers 24x36 with a couple of mm of movement. It's sharper than I expected, but not the 80+ line pairs per mm needed by a 50MP sensor to be critically sharp. Mind, there aren't many lenses that are.

Q: 2. Will this lens work with the Nikon Z6 ?

A: Not natively, you would need to adapt this to the Z mount with a lens adapter like the Nikon FTZ Mount Adapter (https://bhpho.to/2PwU1lm)

Q: 3. With the ftz adapter, I just cannot nail tje focus at 1:1. Anyone have an idea what am doing wrong?

A: If the lens was placed further or closer than 4.7" from the subject, it will be difficult to focus for 1:1.

Q: 4. Will there be any vignetting if I use this on a Nikon Z mount with the FTZ adapter?

A: Using the Venus Optics Laowa 15mm f/4 Macro Lens for Nikon F with the Nikon FTZ II Mount Adapter on a Z-mount camera will give you the same results as using this on an F-mount camera. When shifted to the maximum it is possible to get a bit of vignetting on a full-frame camera, but this would be the same whether used on f-mount or adapted.

Q: 5. How does this lens perform when the camera is set to bracketing, especially in full frame canon and Nikon cameras? Has anybody tested this?

A: This lens is fully manual in terms of aperture control and focus. If putting the camera in an auto bracket mode, it will not control the exposure through the lens. Manual bracketing would need to be performed in this case.

Q: 6. How is shift limited to aps-c? Can it be overridden?

A: The lens physically cannot shift or tilt more than 6mm.

Q: 7. Can I use this lens on mu Canon Xf105 video camera?

A: Nope. The xf105 has a fixed lens, meaning you can't remove it, thus you can't attach ANY DSLR lenses! You might be able to buy an adaptor to screw on other lenses, or investigate getting close-up filters if macro is what you were wanting to get out of the 15mm laowa.

Q: 8. This lens has a manual aperture ring, is this aperture an auto-diaphragm aperture where the lens stays at f4 even when the aperture is set to f16? Or does the view through the lens get darker (and with more depth-of-field) when you set the smaller apertures?

A: The diaphragm does close down when the aperture rig is stopped down. I have to focus at f4 and then stop down to where I want to be because the viewfinder dims so much. Overall, I'm pleased with the lens, it's built very solidly and has performed well so far.

Q: 9. What happens when you mount the Canon EF lens version on a adapter to suit it to a Sony A7iii camera? The image quality changes and the aperture range changes correct?

A: The image quality usually doesn't change much when using an adapter and the exposure doesn't either. Most adapters don't support autofocus, so if you put an autofocus lens on with an adapter, you might have to focus manually. There are good adapters for Canon mount lenses that will support autofocus on a Sony camera.

Q: 10. would this lens work on an a7s in a nauticam housing for underwater macro shots? Looks like it is full manual so is there a focus gear you can get for it?

A: Yes it works w the a7s

[17" / 43.2 cm] When B&H had the lensbaby sale (buy composer pro & sweet 35, get edge 80 free) I HAD to jump on it. I've been wanting both of these lenses for a while & this was the perfect opportunity for me to try each of them. I LOVE the edge 80! Changing out the lenses can be a little tricky, so watch the how to videos if needed. I love how small the LB are & how I can just throw them in my bag & go. Definitely recommend for more creative shots!!

[5/4] I have been using Lensbaby optics with the Composer Pro for some time. The introduction of the Edge 80 Optic gave me a whole new capability for creative expression. The Optic feels sturdy, well made and yet easy to put in and remove from the Composer Pro. My goals was to use it for portraits and I couldn't be more pleased with the results. I find that it is easy to set the aperture, adjust the shutter speed and make very minor adjustments in focus around the sweet spot so common in the Lensbaby system. I also noticed that it takes very little tilting to get a very nice blurred bokeh, much less than with the Sweet 35, for example. As with all Lensbaby optics, this is not the best approach for kids IF they are running around because the time taken to manually focus means you might lose a good shot. But bribe them to stay still and you will certainly smile at the result.

[17" / 43.2 cm] I owned the Velvet 56 and the Sweet 50. The best part of this lens are the focal length: 80, which is best for portraits (less distortions), and the edge blur which gives you a straight edge blur. One problem I found with the Sweeet 50 is the type of blur it has. It's radial/circular and sometimes it looks artificial. The blur of the Edge 80 seems to be more natural and perfect with portraits and fashion.
