Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Why isn't the silver version available in the US? I see it available in Japan via Ebay.

A: At this time, the manufacturer only distributes the black version to US retailers.

Q: 2. Would it make any sense to use an extension tube with this lens for more of a macro effect? I realize this lens already focuses to around 9 , which is super; but, I'm trying to discern the pros & cons of an extension tube with such a fast lens. Any thoughts on this set up?

A: It would make some sense yes. Virtualy any focal can be used with an extension tube with some levels of success. Shorter focals tend to work best with tubes but this one would definitely be one I think would be worth experimenting with. Most macro shots are shot stopped down at smaller apertures but again, with such a wide aperture it would be fun to experiment with results when shooting wide open as this lens can go.

Q: 3. How is it for viewing photo slide transparencies on a light table?

A: This magnifier will work for viewing photo slide transparencies on a light table. Since you are using a light table you will not use the built-in LED's 3X magnification is adequate. If you need more magnification consider the Carson LH-30 VersaLoupe 10x Magnifier.

Q: 4. IS the aperture fixed?

A: If I understand your question correctly the answer is no . You can change the aperture (F stops) f5.6. f8, f16 etc. through the camera settings. There is no aperture ring on this design. Most of the Panasonic cameras have the marking S== shutter priority, A= aperture priority, P= Auto mode where the camera determines the correct combo of shutter speed/ f stop. ( On some of the Panasonic lens there is an aperture ring that you can manually set). The 1.7 marked on your lens indicates the amount of light gathering. Hope this was helpful.

Q: 5. Is the focus ring smoooth at all distances? Or is there a tightness when focusing from 10 to a foot distance?

A: On mine, the focus ring is pretty even throughout its travel. I just tested it to be sure, and I would say that there is maybe 10-20% greater resistance, gradually as you approach the minimum distance, but nothing I would characterize as tightness , just a normal variation. I honestly wouldn't have noticed if I didn't test it in response to your question. I hope that helps.

Q: 6. The Panasonic LUMIX G 42.5mm f / 1.7 is stabilized and the Power OIS is always on. Would it conflict with the stabilization of my Olympus E-M5 mII ..?

A: Thanks for the answers below, I did some research on preview, which, btw, is a GREAT resource. It confused me a bit, but seemed solution is in the ability to turn off one or the other. I do also understand, when I am able to upgrade to the Lumix GX8, which has in camera IS they are compatible....

Q: 7. Does this lens allow manual focusing?

A: Yes, this lens allows you to select Automatic or Manual focusing. Full details can be found in the below link. ftp://a href= http://ftp.panasonic.com/lenses/hx105/h-x105_mul_om.pdf#page=6 target= _blank ftp.panasonic.com/lenses/hx105/h-x105_mul_om.pdf#page=6/a

Q: 8. For the life of me I can't get the lens hood to attach. It's like the lens hood marked H-HS043 is too small. Am I doing something wrong?

A: The lens has a decorative ring that must be removed to attach the lens hood. Hold the lens so that you see 42.5 with the front of the lens on top. You will see two white marks aligned with the 42.5. One of those marks is on the lens itself; the top mark belongs to the decorative ring. You must grasp the ring quite firmly to remove it; turn it counter-clockwise and remove it. Now you can attach the lens hood. Note that the decorative ring will not be properly attached until the two white marks are aligned. The lens hood itself does not have a corresponding white mark, although it should. Both the decorative ring and the lens hood have a definite click when properly attached.

Q: 9. what is the measurement of its physical front element? the glass only, not the front filter thread.

A: The diameter of this lens is listed as 64mm, or 2.53 .

Q: 10. would this lense work on a Z E1 camera from Shenzhen Imaginevision which has a MFT mount?

A: The E1 says it can mount all Panasonic and Olympic lenses. I've used this Nokton lens on Panasonic's GH3 and GH4. Yes, this lens should mount on the E1.

[20.94 lb] Lineco mounting/hinging tissue is easy to use and it is so thin it leaves no hint of thickness under the mat. Using both Lineco linen hinging tape and Lineco mounting/hinging tissue has made my matting process easier and better. I will always use both together whenever I mat future prints. When I find a product that works this well I stick with it.

[1 x Roll] I've been buying this for years from Archival Methods. The price from B&H is the same but I save shipping and, because of the Payboo card, the tax.

[20.94 lb] Low heat adhesive. It does take about 24 hours to fully attach, but immediately after the platten, it is set and you will not be able to move your print. It is an off egg white color and inert chemically, and, for this type of non movable set, is archival. ColorMount was probably archival, but the Drytac truly is. It is an excellent product!
