Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Would it be possible to power the light from a V-mount battery via a regulated 7.2v D-tap to NPF style adapter?

A: Ray -- If there is such an adapter, which can connect to a single NPF connection, and you can then plug in a V-mount battery, then it MIGHT work. However, it also may not work, and because we do not have such an adapter and have not tested such an adapter, we cannot recommend that you try it. If you try that method, it will be at your own risk. // Also, if there are any other technical or product related questions, feel free to contact us directly at any time at support@dracobroadcast.com.

Q: 2. What's the approx. Run time on a fully charged battery?

A: Gary, It depends on the battery. One Watt-hour runs one Watt for one hour. At full power this light draws 30 Watts. If you dim it down at all it will draw less. A 150 Wh battery will run this light at full power for around five hours. If the light is dimmed down at all, it will run for longer. // Also, if there are any other technical or product related questions, feel free to contact us directly at any time at support@dracobroadcast.com.

Q: 3. Can anyone tell me if they have used one of these successfully as a key light? I just do corporate interviews and talking heads. Also, if this would make a usable key light, what are folks using for diffusion?

A: This light can be used as a key light, but overall conditions will affect your results. For diffusion, these work well https://bhpho.to/2YffQsz.

Q: 4. I see the barndoors for this, but not the gels made to fit. Aren't there gels mad to fit right into the barndoors?

A: I haven't come across gels specifically made for the Dracast Led500. B&H has a lot of gel packs, many are 12 by 12 which you can just cut in half and slide right into the barndoors. I went to a local photo store and bought gel sheets, very cheap, and just cut them to fit the frame. I also got an appropriate color gel to change the balance to tungsten.

Q: 5. It seems the design of this model has recently changed (for the better) but I am wondering if it still comes with the barndoors or any diffusion/gels?

A: No, the Dracast LED500 does not come with barn doors. It comes with Yoke, case, AD adapter and the specific one picked comes with a V mount battery plate.

Q: 6. Does this dim from o%-100% with DMX or does it not turn off with DMX like some other panels?

A: According to Dracast, yes, the Dracast LED1000-DX Studio Daylight LED Light with DMX is able to dim all the way from 100% intensity to 0% intensity when using DMX remote control.

Q: 7. Can the scatter lens be removed? I have Bowens adapters and focusing fresnel attachments for s-mount

A: No the lens is not user removable

Q: 8. How many cm's is it for soft box?

A: There are no softboxes for this light, but you can use diffusion. https://bhpho.to/2xoCuEc

Q: 9. I just noticed on your site, that its listed as brighter with more lux in the same distance. 7362 lux @ 3.0' (0.9 m) vs 9570 lux @ 3.0' (0.9 m). Shown on your boltray-plus-600.pdf file. Which one is actually correct? Also some of the lux readings may not be matching the correct distance. For example - 850 lux @ 6' when its also showing 1350 lux @ 9' ? I don't think light gets brighter the farther away it is.

A: Xavier -- You mentioned a .pdf file, but did not provide a link. The spec sheets I have been able to find do not have that information on them. Please send a link to the document with the strange information in it to: support@dracobroadcast.com.

Q: 10. Does this items come with barn doors?

A: No, you can buy them separate if you want. They are considered an accessory

[Daylight] This light has, quite simply, blown me away. All my previous attempts at purchasing a light for a price that wouldn't break the bank have been futilebut then I came across this product. One of the biggest pains of other lights was the excessive heat output. When my recorded interviews would take longer than 45 minutes (as they always do!) my traditional fresnel became UNBEARABLY hot, to the point where it was impossible to handle/pack up for quite some time. As my previous light began to heat up, the color began to change as well, leading to inconsistencies in my filming. This light has no such problems and borders on perfection. The color stays entirely accurate, and the output is remarkably powerful without being a traditional fresnel. I cannot recommend this product more highly!

[Daylight] As a professional videographer I need the perfect lighting for my work which includes indie films and documentaries. I was looking for something portable and lightweight that didn't get hot yet gave a lot of light output. What I love is this light is an LED fresnel. It takes the same advantages of a traditional fresnel light (beam intensity, longer distance) yet has the energy-saving and efficiency pros of an LED light. I'm a fan of the color accuracy-- the purity of the light is great and has no weird color tints. The color temperature remains consistent, no matter how long I use it (30 min-2 hrs), the temp is always accurate and does not dip. How great is that? Another great feature is that this also has built-in DMX controls, so you can control it with an external DMX panel. If you're looking for well priced lighting that's light weight, has great color accuracy and is priced well-this is a great choice!

[Proprietary] I've only been working as a videographer for about two years, mostly part time, but every now and then I get a great gig to work on during my vacation time. I decided to purchase the Dracast LED 2000 Fresnel because I was going to be traveling to Central America to work on a travel documentary, and I wanted a portable and lightweight LED panel that would be easy and convenient to carry. I also wanted to find something that wouldn't over heat in the hot tropical climates of Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama. I feel like I made a great choice. Not only did the Dracast LED 2000 Fresnel deliver on my expectations of convenience and portability, but I can also give it great marks for things like energy saving (I get up to two hours on it, depending on how I am using it), while still providing excellent beam intensity and long distance capabilities. It's essentially an LED fresnel. The color quality is impressively accurate, offering a pure light and no funky color tints. I also appreciated the built in DMX controls that I could control with my external panel. Highly recommended accessory.

[1x LED Fresnel] As a freelance producer, this light works great with a number of different set ups. I usually just need a good portable and lightweight for a small interview or broll segment, and this LED Fresnel is perfect. It gives out the light you need without getting too hot. It's the best of both worlds, the efficiency and weight of an LED light but with the beam intensity of a traditional fresnel light. Also the color accuracy is on point, no tinting or inconsistencies. The temp is always accurate. The built-in DMX controls are great addition too. Overall a great purchase.

[CRI 95] Professional lights are a dime a dozen, but all of them only have partial parts that are great. This LED fresnel takes the cake because it does everything that it says it does, and there is no complicated part to it. It's a light that works great, with no unneeded bells and whistles. If you are a videographer (semi- or pro), you'll find the light weight capability of this LED panel is great for whatever your needs are. It easily portable so that you can move yourself to the scene you are filming, but still maintains the professional quality you require. It will not get hot and the light output is perfect for what you're looking for. Since it is a LED fresnel light, you'll see that it has all of the fresnel advantages, like the beam intensity and the longer distance that it illuminates. The LED portion comes into play by the energy-efficient and other pros to having a LED light. Just by infusing these two elements alone, it's already a great product. The color accuracy with this LED fresnel light is a huge plus. You don't have to worry about strange tints or color hues creeping into the purity and strength of the light even if you use it for the 2 hours straight. You can count on the color temperature to stay constant and consistent as long as the light is in use. Since it has built-in DMX controls, you are able to control everything with an external DMX panel. This LED fresnel light is all about bringing you the best light out there, and with all of the needs you require. This is better than a panel, and it's portable...pretty fantastic, don't you think?

[CRI 95] I have had a tungsten model and daylight model of this light. I really like how simple it is. For lighting up a scrim or accenting a wall it works great. The daylight is about 1/3 of a stop brighter than the tungsten balanced light. I like that its dead quiet and simple to use. The added V mount bracket included is super handy as well.

[16.45 lb] I am an established photographer and I was looking for some new lighting. I found this and decided to get it because it was portable and lightweight. I do a lot of outside shooting and this is the perfect light for that. It does not get hot either, which is very lovely. A great investment!

[CRI 95] Very solid light with a wonderful and even light in both spot and wide. It's closer in brightness to my old 1k Strand Century tungsten Fresnel lights...perhaps 1 or 2 stops dimmer, but this Dracast has a much more even, manageable light source. The older tungsten lights always required a little diffusion to help even the spot that was always present in the center.

Not nearly as bright as the 2K equivalent I was hoping for (about half), but a very well built and pleasing light source. Will buy more.

[50,000 Hours] I love this light! I was looking for a LED panel that was easily transportable because I never know where I'll end up working. I enjoy the LED aspect because there are same advantages of the traditional fresnel lighting along with the energy-saving and efficient aspects. This light is lightweight and the panel doesn't get hot which is a major plus as well. You can easily control the DMX with the external DMX panel. What I really love though is that the color temperature is so reliable. There are no weird color tints when in use. I've used this for anywhere between 30 minutes to a couple of hours with very accurate color temperature throughout the whole shoot. Overall this is my favorite light to work with due to it's reliability and quality. Highly recommended!

[5600K] I needed a high output daylight balanced light source for my light kit and was originally looking for a 400W HMI but finding them cost prohibitive. I started looking into alternatives and discovered the Fresnel 2000 by Dracast. I can honestly say that this light is better in every way and I couldn't be happier with it. This light offers similar throw to a 400W HMI but doesn't require strike time to warm up or cool down, you can adjust spot to flood with the turn of a dial rather than changing lenses, it's more energy efficient and doesn't get hot, you don't have to lug around a ballast, it's fully dimmable, and all for less than half the price of the HMI. The quality of the light is also excellent, no visible color spikes like with cheaper LEDs. With a CRI rating of 90+ colors look as they should. Overall an excellent product and invaluable part of my light kit.
