Balanced XLR connectors are used for the audio inputs and outputs. There are two input connectors and two outputs. The bass-management unit in the 7040A subwoofer splits the input into low- and high-frequency components at 85 Hz. Frequencies below 85 Hz are reproduced by the subwoofer. Frequencies above 85 Hz are directed via the subwoofer's output connectors to the main monitors. The subwoofer's outputs have the same level as the inputs.

The subwoofer sensitivity can be adjusted from +12 to -6 dBu to match the subwoofer sound level easily with different monitors.

Two BASS ROLL-OFF switches provide bass-response adjustment to compensate for the acoustical environment in three 2 dB steps. Two switches allow alignment of subwoofer phase with the monitors. The phase can be adjusted in 90-degree increments between 0 and -270°.

[Black] I've been using Genelecs in my edit suite for over 23 years and I've never purchased a sub until recently. Mixing for broadcast, the sub is overkill, right? WRONG! It make mixes come alive and my clients love the added fullness.

[0.8%] I bought the 8010's to have some portability when traveling and producing electronic music. They have a roll off at 65 HZ, just where bass gets beefy. Considering the size of the 8010's they do an excellent job in the mid and high frequency range...but they seriously lack in the deep end. I have since supplemented them by adding the 7040A and the difference is astounding. Yes, this sub has weight to it, isn't exactly small and the idea of portability is somewhat limited now but I'd do what is necessary to bring this baby along for the ride. I'm talking fullness across the board when combined with the 8010's that could well stand up to my home studio near fields.

[Black] I run and operate a busy color suite in South Florida. As a full-time Colorist my first and only concern is helping my clients achieve their vision by making their film and video projects look color perfect.But.I recently wanted to add big theater sound. But - how to do that on a budget, and within the physical limitations of a medium size color suite. Enter Genelec. The 7040A Studio Subwoofer by Genelec is the perfect companion for the 8010's. Easy to set up. Easy to calibrate for your needs. I will always remember my first Genelec moment. As my client's movie trailer played on my color monitor - the 2.1 sound blew me across the room. Close your eyes and you won't believe that this kind of sound is coming out of speakers this small. The 7040A Studio Subwoofer is the key to it all. That - my friend - are the Pros. The Cons? Only one, I can think of: the dip switches. I'm used to volume controls - so it took a bit more fiddling around than I thought I would need to get the sound the way I wanted. The manuals for both speakers and Genelec's website come up short on the kind of help that I needed. It took a little time. But once I understood the dip switch ecosystem - I was good to go.That said - the 7040A Studio Subwoofer by Genelec is a great buy. And, combined with the 8010's - you have one POWERFUL 2.1 audio system. That. Should. Blow. You. Away.Best, Jim --------

[20 x 16 x 11"] I have this subwoofer paired with the Genelec 8020D's. It is a perfect match. It provides accurate punchy base, but not overpowering. My listening area is in a corner, but with the provided adjustment dip switches in the back I was able to tailor the bass to my liking.

[0.8%] I sold my Barefoot Footprint 01 for this sub and a pair of 8330A and 7350A sub and I couldn't be happier! Let me explain why I made this decision.
In the recent months, Sonarworks' SoundID Reference has gotten increasingly unreliable on my M1 Max Mac to the point of constantly having to troubleshoot it. On top of that, the Barefoots have shown some issues producing accurate low end in my small-ish mixing space and I knew that having an independent sub will help a great deal with low-end precision.

Another big deal is GLM, Genelec's own speaker calibration and management system that costs pretty much the same as SoundID BUT is natively integrated in the speakers, gets free updates, allows for MIDI yard stream deck control, and pretty much means that you'll NEVER need a monitor controller again - unless you're planning to get another pair of speakers that aren't part of Genelec's SAM series.

This added value and piece of mind, Genelec's sustainability approach, the 8330s having lower overall distortion than the Footprints, and my low-end now extending all the way to 21 Hz at -1 dB (almost an extra octave compared to the Footprints) all mean that this is pretty much as good as it gets for a sub $4k set of speakers.

the 7350 does an awesome job at extending the 8330A's low-end without making itself known and the automatic phase alignment, variable bass mgmt frequency, GLM, and 7+LFE channel bass management I/O are unmatched at this price.

The ultimate cherry on top is that all the integrated technologies mean that the eventual upgrade to a Dolby Atmos system just means getting more speakers... no extra subs, monitor controllers, etc. My wallet sure appreciates the GLM ecosystem

[29 lb] I spent a long time looking into various 5.1 surround bass management solutions that would work with regular Windows audio as well as audio through a DAW for studio and game development use. There are various software solutions for each, but most would not give consistent results between Windows system and DAW audio.

I started looking for either a bass management hardware unit (some add latency) or a surround controller with bass management (way more expensive than this sub), then came upon the few Genelec subwoofers which have built-in surround bass management.

I only have a 5.1 surround system so I chose this sub, and am happy I did so. While the cost is higher than I would like, there aren't that many other subs that handle surround bass management, and it handles both bass management and LFE duties well. The manual is comprehensive, and there are little switches and a knob on the side that allow you to customize rolloff, boosts, power saving, 4 phases, and sensitivity.

Noise floor is very low, and it pumps out enough oomph for my calibrated small home studio even with the largest rolloff as well as the lowest input sensitivity. I'm not using it to shake the house, but rather to hear the lowest frequencies correctly while mixing and listening to all kinds of stuff. It's also smaller than some other subs, and that's a plus for my room as well.

I don't really have anything to complain about for this sub other than Genelec's pricing, but since there are few subs that handle surround bass management and I didn't find any cheaper than this, it is what it is. Great product.

[Black] The 8030C is a fine speaker but it struggles below 90Hz and is hopeless below 60. The 7050C works perfectly with a pair of 8030C. Setting up the phase and sensitivity took maybe 5 minutes. Getting it out of the box took longer. If you have a set of Genelec monitors, especially the 8030 or smaller models, this sub is a no-brainer.

[100 dB] For being a small enough to seemingly hide under a desk, the whole room can accurately hear, and feel, lows in the studio sound system.

[Black] I have been mixing in the professional environment for over 30 years. I mostly do film and have a small editing suite in my house. This is the perfect addition for a small mix room to accurately monitor low end frequencies. It will keep you from being surprised when your films or videos, show and play on big systems!
You won't be sorry you bought this!

[Black] I am a video editor and I use these with 8010's and I couldn't be happier. They bring my projects to life. I am totally sold on Genelecs and I will be buying bigger and better speakers from them when it makes sense. This simple setup with the Apogee Duet connected to my Mac Pro is more than i need but everything that I want. Being able to immerse yourself in your project is very important to making it he best it can be. Having sound as punchy and clear as this is integral to finding my creative flow state.
