Built with a 1 RU form factor for desktop use, 19" racks, and DIT carts, the mLogic mRack Thunderbolt 3 LTO 7 Dual Tape Archiving Solutionfrom mLogic mRack Thunderbolt 3 LTO 7 Dual Tape Archiving Solutionis a tape archiving solution that reads and writes LTO 7 and LTO 6 media. It can also read LTO 5 media and has two Thunderbolt 3 ports for connecting to your host Windows or Mac system for backing up and archiving critical media assets. As one Thunderbolt 3 port is used for host connectivity, the second is free for the daisy chaining of compatible Thunderbolt peripherals. The mRack is a suitable solution for protecting Original Camera Files (OCF) on-set and for archiving completed projects in the studio for the long term.

Each LTO 7 tape cartridge (available separately)stores 6TB of data, which is copied at speeds up to 300 MB/s, and has a shelf life of 30 years. LTO 7 also supports the Linear Tape File System (LTFS), which mounts the tape drive in the same way as a disk drive, enabling drag-and-drop functionality to the tape cartridge. Included is mLogic's LTFS archive/retrieve utility for macOS, a 3.3' Thunderbolt cable, a Fujifilm universal cleaning cartridge, and a universal power adapter. Protection is provided by a limited 3-year warranty.

The mRack ships with a simple drag-and-drop Linear Tape File System (LTFS) archiving and retrieve utility for macOS. To ensure that what you archive to mRack is an exact replica of your source material, the utility utilizes xxHASH64 verification. Detailed transfer logs are also generated with every archive.

[6 TB (Native)] I've purchased dozens of these and haven't had any issues to date. Works as expected & reliable. I'm using a mLogic mTape LTO-7 drive. The only minor quibble I have is that they don't come with any sort of label/sticker. 5

[29 lb] I use this to archvie 4K digital cinema data, using a tape library to back up a RAID. The tapes are expensive and the process is slow and cumbersome, but it is probably the most stable format for archiving digital data. If you are developing a new system, you'll probably want LTO-6, but if you're already on LTO-5, this product is just fine. Keep in mind that eventually you will need custom labels, so buy a bunch of them in advance. 5

[6 TB (Native)] Hooked it up to an Intel Mac Mini and was pleasantly surprised at how quiet it is compared to our old LTO-5. The Mac Mini has 10GbE and the two LTFS tapes I've created so far from our NAS have been very fast. One was created with the included mLogic app (the name escapes me at the moment) and the other with MyLTO. 5

[2] We purchased one of these units back in January, 2020 for use in a University audio/video recording setting. I believe we've already transferred over 150TB. There is a lot of relief when you know your master recordings are now backed up on something that lasts longer, is faster, closer and easier to deal with than stumbling and slow 'Cloud solutions' or having to shelve dozens of aging drives! We use YoYotta software with it. So far it has worked really well. The only issues we have had are with a LTO cart or two that had a problem and failed during the transfer process, not after. It is pretty darn fast and easy to hook up using thunderbolt. The Software is also great for adding metadata and sending emails to let you know it is finished once verified checks of the transferred data are complete. Because of 4K, file sizes are soaring ever higher, yet the mLogic LTO 8 is pretty darn fast and so good at 'retrieving' past recordings, I plan on buying one for my own personal use. As always, your mileage may vary. 5
