A: No, the hotshoe mount cannot be unscrewed to fix another mounting attachment. The hotshoe is glued to the candy handle.

A: The NATO rail is 2 5/8 long with the mounting slot/hole at 1 5/8 in length. The screws are 1/4 20 - which when, not being used, live (and can be seen) in the handle. It's a quality piece of kit.
