The GIO Series GRG121DX from Ibanez is a solidbody electric guitar constructed with a double-cutaway mahogany body featuring an attractive walnut flat finish, a slim bolt-on maple neck with a bound 24-fret rosewood fingerboard, and sharktooth inlay. The fixed bridge brings out the natural resonance and sustain of the wood.

For electronics, the guitar is fitted with a pair of IBZ-6 humbucking neck and bridge pickups, along with a 5-way selector switch, single volume and tone controls. The pickups and controls offer a wide range of tones that accentuate the wood's rich harmonics, and are responsive to the player's fretting and picking dynamics.

[Bolt-On Neck] I've been familiar with Ibanez instruments for decades, and owned one in my college days. After an accident recovery and 20 years of not being able to play bass, I recently decided to take up playing again. I anticipated a low budget instrument, with all the normal flaws associated - but this surprised me. The body is lovely, and although not exceptionally weighty, it's heavy enough to give great tone and sustain. Frets are nicely inlaid, and free from chatter. In fact, aside from a very slight intonation adjustment on the G string, this instrument plays as well as some much more expensive bodies. The active bass boost is a bit of a gimmick, but tone is quite diverse and dynamic. Tone tends toward being very bright, but it easy to attenuate. All together satisfied.

[6] I wanted a inexpensive bass a that was versatile, sounded great and had a sharp look. So I looked around at basses in the same price range and could not find one that had better reviews or had more to offer than this bass. I knew Ibanez makes excellent guitars all around, even the cheaper ones. I bought it without putting my hands on it and hoped for the best. I am very glad I did. It looks great right out of the box and had a really solid feel. Nothing about it looks or feels cheap. I was impressed. It has an excellent feel and plays great. Anyone who has played a lot of guitars will tell you this is the most important thing. It's gotta be fun to play and this bass is. My fingers move without effort over the frets and my palm moves smoothly up and down the neck. Great action and a tight response from the strings by finger or pick. Plus it stays in tune longer than any bass I've ever owned. The sound is very versatile. I can take it from very clean jazz style to heavy, dirty rock stuff with just my playing style. When I really exploit the active pick-ups it really expands the sound pallet. I really can get any tone for any style I want very easily. I think anyone who wants a excellent bass for a cheap price should look no further.

[Jumbo] I have to say that this is a sweet little guitar. It plays way above its price class and comes beautifully set up. I have more expensive Gibson and Fender guitars and this plays just as nice as they do. It doesn't have the premium feel of those guitars but it still feels right in a very basic way. It's light, handy and has a fast neck. This would be a great choice for a beginner, a guitar that is setup properly from the start. I've been playing for more than 50 years and find this little gem to be an awesome guitar that just happens to be cheap. Great instrument to mod but you can play it right out of the box.
