The Audio-Technica AE2300 Cardioid Dynamic Microphoneis a cardioid instrument microphone that features a proprietary double-dome diaphragm construction, giving it high-frequency and transient response that exceeds typical dynamic microphones. With a rugged, low-profile design and the ability to handle high SPLs, the AE2300 is a versatile performer, able to accurately capture sound from guitar amps, brass and woodwinds, and drums and percussion instruments with equal clarity and precision.

The double-dome diaphragm construction allows the AE2300 to maintain directionality across the entire frequency range, while introducing only the slightest off-axis coloration (frequency response is nearly identical at 0, 90 and 180°) for phase cohesion in multiple-mic setups. The microphone is also equipped with a switchable low-pass filter that cuts out harsh, high-frequency noise, such as hiss from a guitar amp or hi-hat bleed into the snare, without negatively affecting the overall tone of an instrument. This mic is an especially useful tool in live settings to get a clear, focused sound.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can I use a lightning to 30 pin adapter for use on an older iPad?

A: The AT2020USBi can be adapted to 30 pin using the Apple Camera Connection Kit which will connect to the included USB output cable.

Q: 2. How large is the diaphragm?

A: The manufacturer does not specify. Typically this type of mic offers a diaphragm larger than 3/4 .

Q: 3. Before I place my order, can you tell me what additional accessories will I need to get started (aside from the computer)? Cables? Shock mount? Thanks!

A: The Audio-Technica Voice Actor Starter Kit ships with everything necessary to get started recording. The AT2035 mic ships with shockmount, and XLR cable for connection of mic to the interface is included as well.

Q: 4. Is there a gain feature on this microphone?

A: The ATR2100x-USB mic does not have a physical switch for gain control, but you can control the input gain level for the microphone on your computer. Instructions are included in the user manual for setup with both Mac and Windows operating systems. Here is a link: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/lit_files/593253.pdf

Q: 5. Why does the product description say "dynamic", when it is clearly a condenser mic?

A: The product description is accurate and the ATR2100x-USB is a dynamic microphone, not a condenser microphone. The microphone's element (also called a mic capsule) which converts audio to an electronic signal is dynamic and does not require any voltage to operate. Condenser microphones do require voltage to function. What may be confusing you is the built-in USB audio interface which converts the analog signal to a digital signal and does require 5V DC which is supplied by the computer's USB port. The ATR2100x-USB offers both analog output via XLR and digital output via USB, but the actual mic element used to initially convert audio to an electronic signal, that is dynamic. Please see the manufacturer's specifications on page 16 of the user manual for further details and verification: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/lit_files/593253.pdf

Q: 6. I see that in the box, there are 2xO'Rings. What is it for?

A: The O-rings are included to create a tight and secure fit around a mic like the Audio-Technica AT875R Short Shotgun Microphone when placing it in a camcorder's mic holder.

Q: 7. Can this output audio to the USB and XLR simultaneously?

A: This mic can pass audio through the XLR and USB at the same time.

Q: 8. Why is "dynamic" in the product title but not "condensor"? It is a condensor mic, not a dynamic mic.

A: This microphone does contain a dynamic capsule.

Q: 9. Will it run through irig android interface?

A: This mic will run throught an iRig, using the analog audio XLR connection.

Q: 10. I would like to us this on my camcorder or cannon 5d would I need Audio-Technica - AT8415 Universal Shock Mount and what else to form a hot shoe mount? Thanks Phylyp Wagner

A: Below are the two items I use with my AT8415 mic. Hope this helps...Audio-Technica AT8469 Camera Shoe MountThis adapter should work with just about any mic mount you throw at it.Rycote 041118 INVISION INV-7 HG mkIII shockmountNot cheap, but worth it. Very sturdy, no handling noise, and easy to place mic in and take out.

[Solid-State] There are no issues on my end whatsoever. The audio quality is crisp and clear, the boom arm and attachments are easy to set up, and the headphones are comfortable.

I'd definitely recommend betting this starter kit for anyone interested in starting a podcast. It even has both USB but XLR capability.

[Cardioid] This mic sounds very nice for vocals, plucked string instruments, and woodwind instruments (at least that's what I've tried it on). I highly recommend it!

[Cardioid] This is one of the greatest upgrade I ever had. Great equipment. Versatile and ready for when I grow up with a new XLR console.

[Black] I bought two for recording guitar and some band concerts. So far I have worked with these on acoustic guitar, stereo and mono mic'd, both near field and far field. To me, these mics sound incredibly clear and accurate. Zero noise that I can detect. I am really pleased with these. They sound much better than the Shure SM57 and noticeably better then my AT3035 LDC mics. I have had no problems. I run them at 0dB and with the 80Hz filter on. These are feeding a Presonus interface and a Mac running Logic Express 9. It's a dream set-up.

[Cardioid] I purchased 4 of these mics for use in a Middle School news media class and they work wonderfully and were so easy for the kids to just plug into their camcorders and go! The sound quality was excellent for the price!

[Black] Works well. The goose neck is just the right length. Using it with the Avid S6.

[Black] I'm a teacher, and I've been making YouTube videos for my classes during remote learning. I went with this mic after watching some reviews and I've been very happy with it. It was easy to set up through USB, and I like that I'd be able to go XLR in the future. I chose a dynamic mic for background noise rejection in my noisy apartment and because I don't mind always being right up close to the mic.
As a teacher doing remote lessons, the difference between good audio and bad audio in my videos is the same thing as the difference between speaking clearly versus mumbling in front of a live classroom. The comparisons I did between my computer's built-in mic versus this one were night and day.

[Cardioid] exactly what I was looking for -- works well as advertised and as expected.

[Black] I recently purchased a Yamaha M7CL Digital Audio Console and needed an affordable talkback microphone. I use Audio-Technica wireless microphones at church and have been pleased with their reliability and affordability. Most Yamaha digital consoles do not include a built-in talkback mic, so this was a great choice for talkback because it plugs directly in to the talkback mic input in front of the console and the gooseneck bends out of the way when not in use.
