The 6TB Mercury Elite Pro External Hard Drive from OWC features a 3.5" SATA hard drive with a rotational speed of 7200 rpm and a capacity of 6TB, so you'll have plenty of space to save your favorite music, photos and movies. The Mercury Elite Pro contains a USB 3.0 port (which is also backwards compatible with USB 2.0 and 1.1), an eSATA port and two 9-pin FireWire 800 ports.

Q: 1. How many terabytes drive does this enclosure accommodate?

A: It will hold any size SATA III 3.5 hard drive. Mine has a 10TB drive. Works great.

Q: 2. Can a computer without usb-c connect to the usb3.0 and access the drives and the sd card and other ports becoming hub? Most importantly can it access the drives to dump footage to this drive with just usb3 connected to computer?

A: You would only be able to connect to your computer via Thunderbolt 3 or Gigabit. The USB A ports are only to connect external drives.

Q: 3. Can I use this as a stationary external hard drive?

A: Yes, you simply need to install whatever size drives that fits your needs.

Q: 4. If this Raid enclose goes bad, will I be able to take the drives out and still get my data off of them?

A: If set up as a RAID 1 then yes, if it is a RAID 0, then no, you cannot.

Q: 5. Can I connect this drive to a new iMac? The USB 3ports on this drive look different than the USB 3 ports on the new iMac.

A: The included cable has the proper connections to plug it into the USB 3.0 ports on the iMac.

Q: 6. Can I connect this drive to a network switch for local access using the ethernet port on this unit?

A: The OWC Gemini Thunderbolt 3 Dock and Dual-Drive RAID Enclosure is not a NAS it is only for one computer access via USB. The Ethernet port allows the connected computer to have a wired Ethernet connection.

Q: 7. Can I put ssd drives in this enclosure instead of spinning drives?

A: Yes. I have one 7200 RPM and in slot 1 and SSD in slot 2

A: Yes, a standard USB volume can be added externally to this model and will be visible to your software.

Q: 9. does this work with ps4?

A: The OWC / Other World Computing Mercury Elite Pro Quad 40TB 4-Bay USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C RAID Array (4 x 10TB) BH #OWMEQCTSRT40 would not work with a PS4, this is a software RAID box. The PS4 does support RAID drives but they must be hardware raid.

Q: 10. Does this device support RAID 1 for two HDs with different capacities? Specifically, will it support a Western Digital 5TB WD50EZRZ and a 6TB WD60PURZ in a 5TB RAID 1 configuration?

A: Technically it will work, but you will only get the lesser of two capacities. In this case, you would lose 1TB. This is the same with any RAID device, unless specifically stated otherwise with a unique software RAID such as "beyond RAID".

[4.95 lb] I am not a techie so take what I have to say with a grain of salt. This hard drive was very easy to use, had all the necessary software pre-loaded into it and worked seamlessly for my first back up. I am giving the hard drive and unqualified thumbs up! 5

[6 TB] Works great,looks amazing Quiet and fast. I use it with final cut pro like my main scratch disk. Got rid of the crashes and errors. Love it! 5

[6 TB] I am a professional videographer and editor and my editing system is set up so I can fly effortlessly on it. However, because some of my peripherals are supported by older OS it is difficult to find external drives that are supported by an older OS as well as still have FW800 ports. OWC ticked both boxes so I bought an 8TB version hoping that it will have enough space to last a couple of years. I just finished editing a 2-month editing project with about 300GB of greenscreen, video of different codecs and a fair amount of compositing. The drive has performed flawlessly. I wanted to dock it one star because this thing is noisy...disconcertingly so. I was backing everything up every day to other drives in case this one crashed. If I moved the drive slightly, the vibrating noise would go away but come back. After a while, I realized the drive was not going to crash but never got used to all the buzzing and humming. I gave it 5-stars regardless of the noise because while all the other manufacturers assume all us users buy a new computer system every year, OWC realizes that there are a lot of older systems still out here being used and making money despite ever-tighter profit margins so kudos to them for that! 5

[6 TB] Have had major issues with Gdrives and their customer service was extremely poor with several drives I bought from them that kept locking up. Have since moved all my drives to OWC drives and they have been great. Their customer service has been great too so far. 5

[4.95 lb] Just like other OWC drives, it is solidly built and performs excellently. Installation was easy with win 10 prox64 using the supplied software on the drive. It performs with no dropped frames for video editing with Premiere Pro cc2018 5

[6 TB] I bought a 3TB version several years ago (4 or 5) and it's continued to work very well. I use it for General Use, non-professional, so I am not as demanding on it as a pro would be. But I do use it as a main drive, not as a backup drive, for which a non-pro model would suffice. I like the faster 7,200 RPM speed. It has an On/Off switch, but I always just leave it in the On position and it's been fine for years, the Drive still goes to sleep on it's own when not in use. I am on here shoppping considering a new model, probably will get more TB this time, considering the price isn't much more. The build quality is excellent and that's the main reason to get OWC is for the solid enclosure and the extra ports, especially if you still like to have Firewire. 5
