Delivering 100W RMS at 3 Ohms, the VOX VT100X Hybrid Modeling 1x12 Combo Guitar Ampfrom VOX is a hybrid modeling combo guitar amplifier offering a 1x12" cabinet and a whole host of tonal options under the hood. With its tube preamp circuit, solid-state power amp, and VET digital modeling capabilities, you can closely approximate the sound of many classic VOX amplifiers—and crank up some authentic tube grit to boot.

The amplifier features an analog-to-digital component, meaning you can connect it to a computer or iOS device directly via USB and tweak the sounds of each amp model through the Editor/Librarian software. In addition to all the programmable, savable sounds that the VT100X has to offer, there are dedicated gain, volume, and EQ knobs to tweak the onboard sound even further, while a power level knob allows you to adjust the wattage of the built-in power amp section.

Furthermore, individual tube controls—such as a BIAS SHIFT button, to change the character of distortion, and a CLASS button, to modify how the power amp section reacts to the onboard tubes—provide multiple tonal possibilities. With footswitches (available separately), you can control many parameters with the tap of your foot.

[1x 12" Cone] The AC30 is great for practicing when others want to sleep. It's very compact and fits in the accessories compartment in my guitar case. Tone is good (not great), and certainly acceptable for practicing. Given its small size, I don't think anyone can expect killer tone. I find the effects (Chorus, Delay, Reverb) a bit cheesy and don't use them. The volume is sufficient with headphones. I've used it with Sennheiser Momentums (18 ohm) and AKG K240 MkII (55 ohm). I've also tried it with a JBL Charge. I had to crank the Charge to full volume for the sound to fill a small room. But hey ... that makes for a very portable amp solution. 5

[Modeling] This little amp sounds fantastic. I’ve had the best results using an over the ear style headphone but it works decent with my in-ears as well. The battery lasts a good amount of time, it’s easy to use and the different tones I can get are truly satisfying. I wouldn’t hesitate to use this for a recording or band practice. 5

[1x 12" Cone] Sounds great. Compact (doesn't take up much desk space.). Easy to program. I use set-lists and scenes as a work-around for lack of snapshots. Compared to my Helix LT - much less expensive; much smaller and less heavy; BUT no snapshots; no programming with computer connection (HxEdit); takes a bit of effort to type on keyboard screen due to size. I like it. 5

[1] Gear: Agile 3010 SE, 1950's wiring, Seymour Duncan Antiquities, CTS 500K pots Headphones: Audio-Technica ATH-M50X Pretty nifty thing. I made mine into a really compact set up with a 3 ft cable going from my headphones into the amPLug G2. Works really well with clear channels. The effects are fun to play with. 5

[3 Ohms Mono] This thing rocks out on earbuds, portable speakers, and a 4x12 cab. It's very boomy on an amps so the tone needs adjusting. Careful with the volume hooked to an amp as well, a little is a lot. The aux in audio is so useful for playing along with songs or a metronome with the volume being independent for fine tuning what you want to hear more of. I would recommend this, it sounds just as good as an amp modeler fro what it does. 5

[1] My son has been playing his electric guitar for about two years. Usually its plugged into his regular amp, which is loud. But there are times when we cant have the noise in the house, either due to homework, a phone call, or someone watching television or a movie in the other room. The VOX amPlug has solved the problem. He can play with the amPlug plugged into the guitar, and hooked up to his headphones. He hears the electric sound of the guitar through his headphones, while the only sound audible to the rest of us is the strumming of the strings, which is not loud enough to disturb the quiet activities going on. As far as the sound quality, I asked my son how he liked it after a couple of weeks of using it. He replied that it sounds good to him. (And the silence sounds good to me!) 5
