The Explore Scientific 102mm f/7 Apochromatic ED Triplet Telescopefrom Explore Scientific 102mm f/7 Apochromatic ED Triplet Telescopefeatures a triplet apochromatic lens system with Hoya's exceptionally engineered and crafted FCD100 extra-low dispersion (ED) glass and Explore Scientific's proprietary anti-reflection EMD fully multi-coated optics. This combination of glass, lenses, and coatings virtually eliminates chromatic and spherical aberrations for clear and bright images without distortion across the entire field of view, with true color rendition. This is a versatile optical tube assembly (OTA) that is powerful enough to clearly see the planets and bright deep-sky objects. It has a relatively small form factor that makes it perfect as a portable grab-and-go option, or set up on a dual-mount rig for astrophotography/astroimaging.

A mounting cradle-ring clamps over the OTA. The cradle-ring allows the user to adjust the orientation and position of the scope relative to the mount to optimize viewing comfort and balance, while avoiding interference with other equipment. The scope is offered without a mount or tripod, but a Vixen-style dovetail plate makes it compatible with any alt-az or equatorial mount with a Vixen-style saddle. Its heavy-duty 2.5" hexagonal two-speed rack-and-pinion focuser helps make fine-focusing fast and precise, even when carrying heavy loads like large eyepieces or imaging rigs. A 90° star diagonal is also included for more comfortable viewing. The mirror has dielectric coatings for a 99% light transmission for minimal light loss when using it.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is there a T-adapter and T-ring that will let me focus my Nikon D750 camera with this telescope ?

A: You would need these 2 parts: https://bhpho.to/35GIvN3 Plus: https://bhpho.to/35M3E8u

Q: 2. Viewing wise what size Mak-cas would be equal to a 102 mm refractor ?

A: You cant match the field of view (how much of sky you see) with a mak but a mak 130 to 150 would yeld the same viewing resolution

Q: 3. Can this be mounted to an eq mount?

A: Unfortunately no. It uses a proprietary yoke mount so it cannot be used on a different mount such as an EQ.

Q: 4. Is the ED glass FPL-51 or FPL-53?

A: That information is not provided by the manufacture

Q: 5. I purchased this scope a few weeks ago. I have yet to achieve focus using a dslr without the diagonal. I've purchased 2" extension tubes that just dont fit on the tubes that came with it. What extention tubes actually fit on this?

A: What make and model of camera are you using and where in the scope are you mounting the camera

Q: 6. Is the Hoya FDC 100 ED better than the standart ED ?Thanks

A: The FCD1 Glass is very very good for photography, not a lot of difference visually though between them.

Q: 7. What do I need to purchase along with this product to connect my Canon 60D for astrophotography ?

A: First you would need a T-Adapter that goes into the eyepiece part of the scope. The Celestron-SLR (35mm OR Digital) Camera Adapter would work great. Wesbite Link to the T-Adapter: a href= http://bhpho.to/1lwAhIO target= _blank http://bhpho.to/1lwAhIO/aNow to mount your Canon 60D you would need what is called a T-Ring, which threads onto the T-Adapter. The Vello Lens Mount Adapter-T-Mount Lens to Canon EOS Camera will be perfect. [None] Traded up from an AR102mm to the 102mm FDC100. Fantastic views of jupiter and Saturn. Can easily see the Cassini division. Had my first ever view of the Andromeda Galaxy. I love that I can have everything assembled and one hand it onto my mount. Just waiting on a better camera to try some DSO imaging.
B&H customer service has been top notch.

[None] Great product, fit and finish are good. Bought for Celestron C6 SCT. Fits it like a glove. Handle-piggyback mount/rail is outstanding. Makes it easy to mount too. All metal construction and all attachments clear the tube rings. Nice and thick felt on rings. Even has a steel plate attached to the dovetail bar so when you mount it theres no marking up the aluminum dovetail bar. For anyone piggybacking a camera (or ?) the piggyback mounting rail is a real winner, especially when compaired to the one Celestron makes for this scope. Simple hex-head 1/4 20 bolt fit right in from below and locks bolt head into place, no twisting no tools needed to add anyting ti the mount.

[1.14 arc sec] This is my third telescope. I got it mostly for traveling but I find my self using it quite a bit at home too. Its light, easy to put together, easy to use, versatile and of a great quality. Mine worked straight from the box without having to be collimated (even though is recommended for any telescope). Yes, its not going to be as powerful as a 8 or 10 telescope but is more than you need for the solar system (Moon, Jupiter, Saturn etc.) and even deep space observation. Wait, its getting better. It was extremely easy for me to adapt a DSLR camera to it and in the first night I got great pictures with the moon craters. The holding tray on the tripod is extremely useful. The tripod itself is sturdy and good quality.
Optics are decent. Of course it never hurts to get better quality optics (Explore Scientific have plenty of them in the store) but if you are pleased with the stock ones you dont have too. They will do the job.
I recommend it.

[f/7] This is my first scope and am very happy with it. Not a fan of how the base assembles but it is sturdy after I applied glue to the joints. Tool-less mirror collimating is very handy. The red dot finder works well but kind of wish the brightness could go down a bit more. Unless you’re pointing at the moon, you can’t see anything but the dot in the viewfinder. Views are clear and after a little practice, easy to point and get on target. Looking forward to many nights observing with it.

[4.0" (102 mm)] Purchased the ED 102 triplet to expand my “grab and go” astronomy equipment inventory. Have an ED 80 Triplet, which is excellent, and wanted something with a little larger for deep sky photography on the road. Paired with ZWO AM3 ,ZWO ASI2600 Duo and ZWO ASIair Plus is a great working combination. ED 102 has great optics, and I had used a borrowed one in the past with excellent results. Looking forward to some clear nights to put the new ED 102 through its paces.

[f/7] The 114mm Reflector was very easy to set up and begin using. This alt-azimuth mount is so much simpler to use than an EQ mount. The lower power of the telescope was great for helping my parents to find objects easily. The entire setup is both very sturdy and easy to move. We were able to immediately start seeing images of the crescent moon and a very rough outline of the Andromeda Galaxy.
