Explore Scientific PMC-Eight GoTo System with G-11 Mountpartnered with iconic designer Scott Losmandy to offer you their first GoTo mount: The PMC-Eight GoTo System with Losmandy G-11 Mount and Tripod. The basis of the system is Losmandy's G-11 motorized German equatorial mount and tripod. Utilizing stepper motors, stainless steel worm shafts, and brass worm gears, the mount is steady and stable with virtually zero vibrations while running and tracking.

Explore Scientific stripped out the G-11's electronics and hand controller and replaced them with their own control box. The control box has a wireless antenna that allows it to connect to the Internet or locally to your Windows PC or mobile device running the open-source ExploreSky software. When connected to the Internet, the mount can be controlled from anywhere in the world. For local use, the mobile app gives you an intuitive interface. The open-source nature of the software gives you a nearly infinite capacity to customize and share your own versions and modifications, which allows you to explore the sky in ways conventional proprietary software suites wouldn't.

To provide a stable base for observations, the included tripod has sturdy 3" legs with an adjustable height of 33-48". It's 35 lb weight helps to minimize vibrations, and the whole tripod can fold to a compact size for easier transport and storage.

[Yes] A bit unorthodox as alt-AZ mounts go, but after an afternoon of using this mount with a Celestron 127 Mak OTA with an erecting prism for daytime stuff I'm selling that Celestron alt-az I bought for $82. I've noticed complaints about getting views near the zenith but you won't get it with a cheaper alt-AZ. If changing the location of a couple of Allen screws is a problem this mount may not be for you. But for me it is the best alt-AZ I've every used and it's quirks are easily mastered. Land or sky this is a great mount.

[Yes] I am impressed with the overall quality of the tripod and mount, especially for the price. I am using this mount to support a 6 Maksutov-Cassegrain telescope that weighs about 11 1/2 pound plus the additional weight of a finder, diagonal, and eyepiece. It seems quite adequate for the combined weights of these items. I like all the adjustments available for changing the position of the mount relative to its tripod. The slow motion controls are smooth are great for tracking astronomical objects being viewed. The tripod legs are sturdy.

[Yes] I would rate the mount at 4.5 out of the box and close to 5 after adjustments. Other reviewers are correct that the RA and DEC cables do come loose. I solved this by swapping out the lock screw with a bolt and nut (see pics) and this is working very well. The pictures are of the bags the hardware came in from Lowes ($3). The other thing I did was replace the socket head screws on the head with knobs and bushings so I could reposition it without the allen wrench. The only other adjustment I had to do was tighten the nut on the RA axis. The only real complaint is the maximum height of the tripod. I am only about 5' 9" and I would be much more comfortable if it was a little taller. It may not sound like it, but I really do like the mount and tripod and would buy it again. I appreciate the other reviewers that brought up the problem with the RA and DEC knobs coming loose because I was prepared for it.

[Yes] I loaded up an Orion 150mm Mak with a 2 inch visual back and diagonal on this mount. Adding up the weight of the OTA and accessories (8x50 right angle finder) brings this to approx 14 pounds; no problem. I even raised each leg 6 inches and there is no wobble at all.

The scope is balanced and stays where aimed without locking the alt-az (though I do when using slo-mo controls). Make sure to offset the mount head so the azimuth control and scope don't meet when using the mount head set at 45 degrees. Just remove the four screws, offset, screw them back in.

Light weight, solid mount at a great price. Can't be beat. I may buy one for my 127mm mak for a grab and go.

[Aluminum] Bought this mount to hold a 127mm Maksutov scope to be used for celestial & terrestrial use. A very solid mount with enough options for good configuration to match this scope. Vibration is minimal & the slo-mo controls are smooth. All in all in resulted in a very nice setup for quick grab & go.

[Aluminum] This mount is not a toy , It is well constructed and put together. There is no wobble or slack in this mount at all. This mount it is made of heavy metal that makes it rock solid.. . The tripod is very sturdy as well. The gearing is very smooth and allows precise movements of ra and dec . The only thing that feels kinda cheap on this mount are the extension cables and plastic knobs that turn the ra and dec gears , but this is no way near a deal breaker. This mount is a nice piece of equipment that i would highly recommend .

[Yes] A high quality, medium duty alt-azi mount for casual viewing. Most impressed with the flexibility of configuration, and the excellent engineering. I use it with an Explore Scientific Ar-102, but should work well with almost any mid sized scope.
