The black Shure RPW174 KSM8 Dualdyne Wireless Microphone Capsulefrom Shure RPW174 KSM8 Dualdyne Wireless Microphone Capsuleis a dual-diaphragm dynamic microphone capsule that is compatible with all interchangeable Shure handheld wireless transmitters - sold separately - and crafted for vocal reproduction in sound-reinforcement applications such as live performances for top-tier professional venues.

Featuring one of the most innovative cardioid polar pattern capsules that Shure has developed to date; the Dualdyne cartridge virtually eliminates proximity effect. It masters off-axis rejection while providing the signal clarity typical of condenser microphones without processing, along with the reliability of dynamic microphone feedback control.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. does the SSH-6 require phantom power?

A: No idea, but as long as you connect it to a Zoom audio module like the F1 (the one I have), etc... it will be powered. This is for sure not a stand alone mic. It is designed to be used on capsule compatible zoom recorders. Not your question but let me tell you this thing is amazing ! Cheers.

Q: 2. Can this remote be used for the Zoom H6?

A: The correct remote to be used with the Zoom H6 is the Auray RC-ZH6. The RC-ZH5 is designed for the H5.

Q: 3. I have the zoom h6, and my question is which h6 accessory microphones are best for for recording:-acoustic classical nylon string guitar in a studio.-nature and animal sounds/sampling.-live music performance as a spectator in the audience... outdoor or indoor. Also, I get confused on the purpose of the ssh-6 vs sgh-6.

A: I got an SS6-6 (to attach to Q8 on head of guitar. Two women have walked up to tell me how cooland high-tech it looks:)I've ended up using it more to capture live eventsrather than aimed at myself/guitar (which really requiressome other mics mixed in for good studio sound.THE BENEFIT of an SSH-6 (I think) is that live soundis a mix of direct, reflective AND audience sounds, and it tends to capture that well. (If I was doing interviewsI'd want an SGH-6, but I'm basing that on quick reading)FOR CLASSIC GUITAR I have no insights, AND all I've written here is based on a little experience with the SSH-6 on a Q8... and my surprise at it's utility in capturing a live event sound that isn't the usual mushy distortion.

Q: 4. What kind of distance will this work with, roughly?

A: There is no specification for the operating distance. Variables like ambient noise, sound level of the subject, indoors or outdoors, size and composition of the inside space and flooring, wall and ceiling are all factors to consider. In general - get your mics as close to the source as possible.

Q: 5. Does the ZOOM f8 output in B and A format for use in external applications?

A: According to page 23 in the manual for the F8 I am only seeing that it supports recording to Polywav as of right now.

Q: 6. Is it possible to record the M and S mics on separate channels for matrixing in post? Can you do this with the Q8? Thanks in advance.

A: There is an option to either enable or disable the mid-side matrix. If you disable it and you record in MOV+WAV format, one of the WAV channels will be the shotgun mic and the other will be the side mic. Please note side is a single source in a figure-8 pattern, not two different sources (left and right side). If you are going to do post-processing and want to control the ambient sound in the mix, definitely disable the matrix. It is quite straightforward then to mix in the ambient sound in post production. You may have to split the stereo WAV file, depending on what DAW you are using.

Q: 7. Is the AA battery 1.2v or 1.5v?

A: The Sennheiser SKM 500 G4 Wireless Handheld Transmitter can run on either a pair of 1.5v AA batteries or the optional rechargeable battery pack.

Q: 8. Does this work with the H8?

A: Yes, this will work with the H8.

Q: 9. Does this mic record to three tracks; the mid to one, and the stereo side to two? If not, how would one go about mixing dialogue with ambient sound in post?

A: It is only 2 tracks. The mono mic will pick up the dialog as any shotgun would straight ahead. Then the desired amount of side can be mixed in accordingly.

Q: 10. How many microphones can this unit support at any one time? Is it a single mic unit or can it support dual mics?

A: One mic transmitter works with this Sennheiser wireless microphone system, so you would need another full system for a second mic. Up to 12 wireless mics can operate simultaneously in the same space, within this frequency block, but they would all require a separate receiver.

[Black] I use this on a Lectrosonics handheld transmitter. Top quality sound - as good as an unhyped condenser, and a tight polar pattern. And no proximity effect.

[0.57 lb] I love this mic. Sounds really excellent in a mix, and whatever bleed from the band actually sounds good and adds something positive - like another nice room mic. Takes EQ very well. I would say it does the things a 58 does for live vocals while sounding like a supercharged SM7. It's pricey, but I'd buy again.

[1.25"-28 Male ] I was reluctant to fork over this much money for a dynamic mic. But I had heard some great things about the KSM8, so I took a chance. I am extremely happy with that decision. Amazing, full sounding mic with a very even and pleasant tone. Plus really good feedback rejection. (i'm not working with blasting monitors as a work in the jazz world, but at the levels I'm performing at, the feedback rejection is superb.) I use it mostly with my wife who has a fairly soft soprano voice and the overall sound is flat and even thoughout the frequency range (though clear and open) with no emphasis or tones that stick out. It's kind of difficult to describe my first impression except to say that it's beefy without being muddy, and still sounding open at the top. It sounds much better than the more expensive Neumann KMS 105 she was using with much better off axis rejection. Best, most even dynamic mic I've ever used.

[0.57 lb] I've been singing for 17 years and this microphone is hands down the best one of all Shure microphones, in my opinion. :)

[0.57 lb] B&H is great. They always have what I need. The product is exactly as advertised. The capsule is a great step up in quality and response from an SM58, or a Beta 87. I have found that this capsule is less prone to high frequency problems that you may find with a KSM9. Both are very nice.

[Cardioid] Very natural sounding and easy (and pricey!) to use vocal microphone. All the stuff about huge sweet spot, controlled proximity effect, and natural midrange is true. OTOH, if you're looking for the 8kHz zing, it's missing in action.
