This Manfrotto 410 3-Way Geared Pan-Tilt Head Kitfrom Manfrotto 410 3-Way Geared Pan-Tilt Head Kithas a load capacity of 11.0 lb and can be attached to tripods or other support systems that feature a 3/8"-16 mount. It includes an integrated RC4 quick release cam lock and a 410PL Quick Release Plate. RC4 compatible quick release plates such as the 410PL can removed from the head by pulling the cam lock's spring-loaded lever, which also allows the plate to be instantly reattached.

Cameras or accessories that are compatible with a 1/4"-20 or 3/8-16" mount can be connected to the 410PL Quick Release Plate, which measures 2.5 x 3.3 x 0.5" and has a rubberized, non-slip surface. The head can be rotated 360°, tilted 90° forwards or 30° backwards, as well as 90° sideways for portrait orientation. Each of these three movements function independently of each other and have individual, snap-lock knobs with easy-to-turn, 4-star grips. Turning each snap-lock knob allows the corresponding movement to be rapidly adjusted, and once the knob is released, the adjustment is locked into place. An additional, rubberized knob set within each snap-lock knob allows incremental, geared adjustments, which help to ensure that any device mounted to this 410 3-Way, Geared Pan-and-Tilt Head is precisely positioned relative to the subject.

To further promote fast and repeatable device positioning, this 410 3-Way, Geared Pan-and-Tilt Head also includes dedicated angle scales for each movement that are designed for easy visibility.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this work with the Magnus Rex vt4000 tripod which has a 3/8''-16 base but uses a 65mm bowl?

A: No. i'm sorry, it is not compatible.

Q: 2. Is this compatible with Really Right Stuff L plates?

A: Yes they are. However you need to adapt them with a custom plate make by a guy in midwest Hejnar Photo. I use this 410 head with his adapter (consists of a base replacement and an Arca Swiss clamp). The Hejnar adapter turns this good 410 head into world class pan tilt head.

Q: 3. I have a Manfrotto 290, will this head work on it?

A: yes

Q: 4. can this head be mounted with a 1/4 - 20 screw?

A: This head has a 3/6 x16 threaded receiver in the bottom. To use a 1/4 x 20 you will need in insert adapter. I use this head for product and macro photography, and it is awesome!

Q: 5. Which Manfrotto L-bracket will work with this head?

A: For an architectural photographer this L bracket is the best on the market! worth every penny! I have been using this product with no issues or repairs for over 10 years. Cheryl Fleming Photography

Q: 6. can I put a rc2 plate on the 410 junior

A: The Manfrotto 410 Junior Geared Head uses the RC4 quick release system and will not be compatible with an RC2 plate. You want the Manfrotto 410PL Quick Release Plate: http://bhpho.to/1pgGRTz

Q: 7. What are the recommended sticks for the 410 jr? Thanks

A: I purchased mine as a kit which included the 055XPROB (I think now discontinued.)The right legs would depend on whether you want carbon or aluminum, how tall you want to get, how portable, etc. I wanted to get the camera able to look up from a full standing position, so overall height was important to me. The legs I choose are longer and heavier than some other options, but portability wasn't important to me. I use some heavy lenses, macro, and astroimaging, so I like stability and precise adjustment.By the way, B&H are currently offering the 405 in conjunction with carbon legs and some accessories. May be a good option too.

Q: 8. Can this head be attached to the new manfrotto mt190xproe tripod?

A: Yes, both will have the standard 3/8-16 mount.

Q: 9. Does this let you slowly move via the knobs, like the larger GEARED HEAD units with control wheels, or is this a Move, then tighten and lock down thing? If it moves, could one fabricate their own wheels for it?

A: Hi Greg,I haven't used the larger geared head you are referring to but it does maneuver in that fashion. You used the knobs to slowly adjust the camera either vertically, horizontal and tilt angles. The star looking piece next to the knobs allows for a fast adjustment. I use this first to possition the camera, then use the knobs to adjust and balance the camera out.I had a used to own a ball head mount until it lost its grip and just dropped my Nikon to ground. I got this as a replacement and I couldn't be happier.

Q: 10. Can you release an axis and move it freely, or all all movements made by the geared knobs?

A: You can release the axis and move it freely, but you cannot unlock it permanently.By rotating the larger dial, you can turn the head on that axis, but you have to keep the dial turned in order for the axis to be unlocked, if that makes sense?I would really have liked the option to manually unlock the axis in a more permanent fashion.

[3.1 lb] Once you use this head you'll wonder how you got along without it! Switched to this head about 10 years ago from the 3047 head. So much faster for minor adjusting. Have 10 of these heads, this is a replacement for one that bit the dust from dropping the tripod/head on concrete. Hated spending the money again, but could not see a better head out there for the money. Hint: we use a vertaflip to shoot verticals, keeps the camera over the center of the tripod.

[Yes] I had a ball head in the past and wanted something with more precision that allowed for finer adjustments. The 410 geared head does just that. It has three gears that allow for fine adjustments in three directions. Great for getting landscape and architecture shots just right. I'm also very impressed with the construction of this head. Very well made.

[Yes] After 3 years, one of the axes was developing quite a bit of play, and it was really starting to bum me out. I didn't figure it would be easy to fix the issue. I figured wrong. Peel the round badge off (it's basically just a big rugged sticker with angle markings I never refer to) and voila! Get a 4mm hex wrench, tighten the adjuster bolt a *tiny* bit, and the play is gone! Apparently disassembly & re-greasing is also possible - I'll save that for some later time. I'm just super stoked to have my beloved geared head back as new in under 5 minutes. The sticker even slaps back on and shows no sign of wanting to fall off on its own. Apart from that, this is my favorite head ever - precise adjusting with NO settling is a huge deal for me. I might have to try the lighter duty version now that one exists (this 410 can be a little overkill for hiking with a mirrorless).

[Geared Head] Don't know why I waited so long. Using it for architectural jobs with Sony A7r. Makes a big difference.

[Yes] This is my first geared head i have owned. My old tripod and head used to droop down every time i tried to aim it. This holds my gear rock solid.

[Geared Head] As an architectural photographer, getting the camera leveled in three dimensions is essential. Using a typical pan-tilt head made it very tedious to make fine corrections to the camera position. The 410 makes this not only easy, but saves time. My only (minor) complaint is the lack of multiple bubble levels.

[Geared Head] Great product. Durable and works great for both macro and landscape work. It is a little heavy, but definitely built pretty solid

[Yes] The gears on this Manfrotto head enables the photographer to make small and accurate adjustments to get the camera exactly level on the tripod.

[-90° to +30°] I'm using a 5D MKIII with a grip and this fits perfect, and makes it incredibly easy to confirm the proper angle / tilt while setting up the ideal shot. This may not be the perfect tripod head for someone who is needing to make quick adjustments, but for real estate / landscape photography where you have the time to make sure everything is set just right, I can't imagine a product that will outdo this one. Well worth the $, indeed!
