The Explore Scientific 80mm f/6 ED APO Triplet Refractor Telescopefeatures a triplet apochromatic lens system with Hoya's exceptionally engineered and crafted FCD100 extra low-dispersion (ED) glass and Explore Scientific's proprietary anti-reflection EMD fully multi-coated optics. This combination of glass, lenses, and coatings virtually eliminates chromatic and spherical aberrations for clear and bright high-contrast images without distortion across the entire field of view, with true color rendition. This is a versatile optical tube assembly that can be employed as a simple grab-and-go primary telescope, as a large finderscope mounted to a larger optical tube assembly (OTA) such as a Dobsonian, or set up on a dual-mount rig for astrophotography/astroimaging.

A mounting cradle-ring clamps over the OTA, and allows the user to adjust the orientation and position of the scope relative to the mount to optimize viewing comfort and balance, while avoiding interference with other equipment. For those with a reliable mounting and support system, the scope is offered without a mount or tripod, but a Vixen-style dovetail plate makes it compatible with any GoTo, alt-az or equatorial mount with a Vixen-style saddle. To handle heavier imaging rigs, the OTA is outfitted with a large 2.5" diameter hexagonal focuser that provides improved strength, stability, and rigidity over conventional round focuser tubes; and ends in a 2" eyepiece/accessory holder to accommodate larger gear. A 90° dielectric star diagonal is also included for more comfortable viewing with minimal light loss.

Q: 1. Is the Hoya FDC 100 ED better than the standart ED ?Thanks

A: The FCD1 Glass is very very good for photography, not a lot of difference visually though between them.

Q: 2. I saw other sites which lists the complete iterms included in this SW package, but not here. So can someone here list all of the item included here? like aluminum box, the 2" - 1.25" eyepiece adaptors, etc, all that?

A: If you look at the right side of the page, you will see a what's in the box listing; In the Box Sky-Watcher Esprit ED APO 100mm f/5.5 Refractor Telescope Canon 48mm T-Ring Photo Adapter Tube Rings with CGE-Style Dovetail Bar Aluminum Foam-Lined Carrying Case Limited 2-Year Warranty

Q: 3. I purchased this scope a few weeks ago. I have yet to achieve focus using a dslr without the diagonal. I've purchased 2" extension tubes that just dont fit on the tubes that came with it. What extention tubes actually fit on this?

A: What make and model of camera are you using and where in the scope are you mounting the camera

Q: 4. Is a field flattner recommended with this refractor?

A: a field flattener is not necessary for visual use, but one can be used to improve image quality when using large image sensors for photography

Q: 5. What is the best tracking stand that works best with this scope?

A: The Sky-Watcher EQ6-R Pro Equatorial GoTo Mount with Tripod Kit is a very good choice.: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1584520-REG/sky_watcher_s30300_eq6_r_pro_equatorial_goto.html

Q: 6. How tall is the tripod ?

A: Would need to know if you want a manual, motorized or GoTo computer mount.

Q: 8. Can you put it on a nicer tripod; can it come off of the tripod it comes with?

A: The tripod that is included has a different thread then your standard tripod head mount. So you won't be able to use a different tripod unless you go about doing some modifications.

Q: 9. Can you use this with a cannon dslr camera and do you need a t mount

A: Yes but you will need a t mount. Might also want to get their field flattener.

Q: 10. Will this work as a travel scope?

A: The image will be backwards so it is not recommend to use as a terrestrial scope. But you could adapt it using an erect image diagonal such as this Celestron: https://bhpho.to/2eMF3WV

[80 mm] This a fine instrument, well constructed and has excellent optics. I have been very impressed with its performance. It is light and easy to handle. The focuser works smoothly and with precision. I am extremely pleased with this instrument.

[80 mm] Purchased the ED 102 triplet to expand my “grab and go” astronomy equipment inventory. Have an ED 80 Triplet, which is excellent, and wanted something with a little larger for deep sky photography on the road. Paired with ZWO AM3 ,ZWO ASI2600 Duo and ZWO ASIair Plus is a great working combination. ED 102 has great optics, and I had used a borrowed one in the past with excellent results. Looking forward to some clear nights to put the new ED 102 through its paces.

[10 lb] The Explore Scientific AR102 is an excellent intermediate scope. The 102mm glass catches a lot of light and provides a great deal of detail with a low Dawes limit. The controls are smooth and solid. Because of its' long focal length, a more substantial mount would be useful to prevent some wobbling during adjustments. I would definitely buy this scope again.

[480mm] I have had this scope for a few weeks now and the optics are great. I do some visual but usually I do astrophotography using ASI AIR PLUS and a ZWO ASI 183MC camera. The images I get are great and stars are tack sharp with no color bloating or fringing.
Files are FITS files and as soon as I figure out how to use a good photo processing program my photos will look better. Only wish the focusing tube was longer so I dont need to ad so many adapters extensions to reach focus, But everyone go's thru that issue.Scope works great with a DSLR also. I am glad I bought it and B&H delivered fast and well packaged.

[80 mm] Love This Scope,It Gives Great Planetary Views, and Some Deep Space Objects Like The Orion Nebula and Star Clusters Are Amazing,Very Little Fringing Or Chromatic Aberration Around Bright Objects,But If You Want To Image,I Suggest a Stronger Mount,But For Visual,It Works Great

[7.5 lb / 3.4 kg] First, I really don't know where to start. I've only had this scope out a few times due to weather conditions, but it definitely doesn't disappoint! All of the specs, pros and cons are available scattered across the web, but in my novice opinion the scope truly is a Beauty in the Beast. The fit and finish; included accessories like the hard travel case on wheels (you will need the wheels), field flattener, mounting rings, diagonal and spotting scope are all typical Sky Watcher. There is no included eyepiece. I have three Sky Watcher mounts and they all perform flawlessly. All I needed to purchase was an adapter to fit my Nikons. A Canon adapter is included. The Beauty in this scope is in the optics. Stars are unbelievably bright and sharp all the way to the edge of the field thanks to the huge glass up front and the dedicated flattener. The 2 3.4 focuser is very well constructed and includes a built in lock to hold the focus solid even with my heavy DSLR Nikons. The Beast in this scope is the weight. It's a large, heavy scope and a big step up from my WO Z61. Make certain your mount can handle not only the weight, but the bulk when it slews. I added an after market D-bar and handle to the top of the mounting rings just to assist in having a firm grip on the scope while mounting and un-mounting. I have this mounted on the Sky Watcher EQ6R Pro and it handles the weight of the scope and all my add ons easily. The attached Andromeda image was taken with 4 min unguided subs in class 5 Bortle skies on a Nikon D750. The EQ6R and Esprit APO 120 combo is amazing.

Secondly, I cant say enough about B&H. I have purchased 99% of all my camera and computer gear over the years from them. Recommended them to others. I have to admit, I've rarely spoken to a product adviser with the exception of my computer purchase, but their customer service is top notch in regards to pricing, returns and fast shipping.

Clear skies!

[7.5 lb / 3.4 kg] Traded up from an AR102mm to the 102mm FDC100. Fantastic views of jupiter and Saturn. Can easily see the Cassini division. Had my first ever view of the Andromeda Galaxy. I love that I can have everything assembled and one hand it onto my mount. Just waiting on a better camera to try some DSO imaging.
B&H customer service has been top notch.
