Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does it come with a nice hard case like the Nikon 70-200f/2,8 or just a draw string bag?

A: This lens does not comes with a hard case. It is to small of lens to have a hard case. The hard cases comes for long lenses and the only time i use my hard case is when i travel internationally.

Q: 2. just in case I wanted to use this lens on a tripod does it have a tripod mode?

A: As per Nikon this lens does have a tripod mode, that is the VR system automatically detects that you are using a tripod which effectively shuts down the VR while using a tripod, similar to you manually turning off VR when using a tripod with older versions of VR.

Q: 3. I hear the old lens has a 10 year lifespan. Will this lens also have the same expected lifespan?

A: The lifespan of a lens is determined by the user and how they use/treat the lens. I've got some lenses in my kit bag that are several decades old, and others that I've had to replace within a few years. If you care for the lens and don't abuse it you should have many years of use from it, but there is no hard and fast rule stating a lens will only last X amount of years.

Q: 4. What will the focal length of this lens be if used on a APS-C camera such as the Nikon d5600?

A: Roughly a 36-105mm equivalent

Q: 5. Does anyone have a tip concerning a good uv of clear filter? I don't want to damage the front element. (Front element is nog flat)

A: BW filter 82. 010 UV-Haze MRC Nano. XS-Pro DIGITAL. Highly recommend. Ziggy

Q: 6. I recently purchased this lens from B&H for my D850. When I zoom in or zoom out, there is substantially increased resistance to rotating the ring at a focal length of about 40 mm. Is this normal and to be expected?

A: It is normal for the zoom ring to have some resistance when new. With regular use, that should loosen up.

Q: 7. Is this lens not compatible with the Nikon D4 camera?

A: I don't know about the D4, but is use it on a D4s & it operates nicely, noticeably sharp to the edges, soft right in the middle, perhaps sharper towards the 50-70 range.. A nice lense

Q: 8. From the reviews I'm gathering it looks like the improvement versus the old G version is the addition of VR and optical formula is an improvement but not by much, correct?

A: I tried the Nikon 24-70 FR lens but sent is back because I did not think the Image Quality was very good. I think the Tamron 24-70 is better. The Tamron has excellent image quality and the VR is great and that is what I now own a am very happy with it.

Q: 9. It’s 2020. Still made in Japan?

A: Yes.

Q: 10. Made in Japan?

A: Don't know where the lenses made but if you have the Nikon 810 camera this lens is amazingly sharp it is a great product I love it

[Neoprene rubber] Purchased as a back up for a Nikon D500. I prefer to only use Nikon products vs after market. I have not had success with after market products and Nikon ahas never failed me.

[0.135 lb] Fits snug but a little difficult to install. Directions show profile pictures for order of install. Have to remove tripod foot on 200-400 to get it on the bottom parts. Windows allow operation of switches that imporve waterproffness.

[0.135 lb] Kind of a love hate relationship with these covers. They do offer great protection without any damage to your expensive investment. But they don’t last and are way too expensive for what they are. I called lenscoat on a previous cover that fell apart before the alleged warranty. They will not back product. Response was that was normal wear.

[Neoprene rubber] Cover fits the lens well, protecting the lens from bumps and scratches in the kit bag. Also reduces the thermal shock to the lens when working in the polar regions and is gentler on the fingers in the polar regions.

[Neoprene rubber] I was skeptical about using these....but it worked out great. Shooting in colder conditions and keeping everything from getting beat up. I have them for each lens now.

[Neoprene rubber] Nikon supplies a very good case and lens cover. The travel coat is very well made and appears to be durable but again it is probably not required for my use with the Nikon furnished case and lens cover.
