Q: 1. I bought this thing. There is no instructions included. The height doesn't adjust. It is not user friendly! Are there instructions online???

A: For help locating an instruction manual feel free to email us directly at askbh@bhphoto.com.

Q: 2. Has anyone mounted a monitor to this boom and if so, how was it done? What is the diameter of the pole between the 2 rubber hand grips?

A: You would be able to use a 1/4 20 with a clamp to mount it on the boom, unfortunately not able to find the diameter. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1422137-REG/smallrig_2161_multi_functional_crab_shaped_clamp.html

Q: 3. Is it strong enough at full length ?

A: Yes. The following unit will support 14.3 payload.

Q: 4. Will this include a tripod?

A: No, a tripod is not included.

Q: 5. What is the diameter of the top plate with 3/8" connection?

A: The Gitzo GM4562 Series 4 Carbon Fiber Monopod offers an upper base platform of 2.36".

Q: 6. Is this will work with the DJI RSC 2?

A: Yes, this should work well with the DJI Ronin RSC2.

Q: 7. What is the advantage of this in compaison with a real monopod?

A: Depends on how you want to use it. A monopod is designed for being upright and on firm ground. if that is how you plan to use it then the Monopod has a very clear advantage (some of them have feet which make them even more stable) If you plan to use it for booming like demonstrated in the photos then Monopods have a couple of disadvantages. 1. They are not designed for being operated like a boom. Normally when you are using a monopod your hand is near the top of the monopod right underneath the bulk of the weight. this reduces the leverage of the payload you are putting on top of the monopod. If you hold the monopod from the far end and raise it in the air (like you would often do with this GimBoom) it may not support the full weight of the set up resulting in bending or even breaking the monopod. 2. Monopods contain unnecessary components. Depending on the monopod you are referring to it may have extra parts that work well for monopods but are detrimental for boom poles. For example its common for monopods to have 3 or 4 sections so that you can compress the tripod down in size more however this is bad for a boom pole. that design reduces the integrity of the boom pole when held from the other end (resulting in bending or breaking). 3. The GimBoom has some features that make it more comfortable to operate such as 2 padded handgrips. Because it is designed to be used as a boom its also reinforced so that you do not have to worry about bending or breaking as much as you would on a monopod. The GimBoom is much closer to a Boom Pole like those used by audio professionals more than Monopods used for video. Its a simple lightweight, sturdy, extendable pole that allows you to get dramatic camera movement using your camera and a gimbal. Monopods technically can work but The GimBoom is designed to be more comfortable to operate, easier to use, and reinforced to ensure that it lasts longer.

Q: 8. What is the diameter of the base for ballhead?

A: It's 2.36".

Q: 9. How does this actually work does it damage the glass at all?

A: No, the lens cap never come in contact with the front element of the lens.

Q: 10. 14.3 lbs on a 1/4" - 20 ?? Am I the only one who doesn't trust this tiny screw to support a moving camera rig (under stress)? Engineers please weigh in and reassure me.

A: If your camera/device has a 1/4-20, this will handle it. If you look up the tensile strength of 1/4"-20 bolts, you will see figures that are greater than what you can lift.

[4.64 lb] I wore the chest portion of it on my 4-mile run a couple of days ago and was very pleased with the results. I will try the head portion of it next week and I have a feeling that will also make me glad that I made this purchase.

[4.64 lb] Lightweight! Compact! Easy to adjust!
Very nice product - works very well with Ronin RS2 as well as monopod for camera.
Very nice texture - so you will have good grip. Spent some time before realized how to adjust size - this method was new for me (You need to turn short parts with red metal clockwise to unlock and counterclockwise to lock back)

[4.64 lb] Honestly didn't think the build quality would be as good as it is while still being so lightweight. Very easy to use right out of the box, extends to a perfect length, and retracts enough to store and travel with easily. I put electrical tape on the bottom because the pad doesn't seem like it'll hold up well in rough terrain but that's just a guess. It doesn't look like the top thread would fit into my camera (Eos R) but it does and seems tight and secure. Combined with my gimbal (weebill s) it's phenomenal but you obviously don't have access to the controls and adding a monitor to it would be troublesome but probably necessary in certain situations.

[4.64 lb] I purchased this boom along with the Manfrotto 300 gimbal. To be honest, I have not used the gimbal and boom in an actual shoot yet. I'm in the research and learning phase right now. I'm hopeful to get it out soon. I have tried both items in my home, though. They both feel very well made and solid. Typical of Manfrotto.

The boom did not flex holding it at an angle with the weight of the gimbal and camera and the boom at its full extension.

I did notice something important. When you lock the unit, the two ends stay in the same orientation. This was important to know if you mount the gimbal remote on the bottom. You would want it pointing in the same direction as the gimbal. So, mount the remote first with the adapter plate so you know how to orient the gimbal.

Bring a newbie, I don't know if this is a standard for booms or not.

[4.64 lb] This is a very good value for the money. Well made and very rugged.
A minor issue is that it does not come with any assembly instructions or camera balancing instructions. I recommend looking at some on-line videos on balancing stabilizers. For a first time user of stabilizers the balancing process is not intuitive. Once properly balanced for a specific camera it works very well.

[4.64 lb] I'm a cinematographer and regularly use glidecam hd-2000 with dslr's such as 5D's and 1Dx mark II, I also often use a Glidecam Hd-4000 with a C300 mark II, and even own a giant came-tv vest and stabilizer rig with wires for batteries and monitors going through it. I hate that big thing because there's no real freedom of motion for rising shots etc and it takes forever but i'm sure for walking shots on a movie set or something it's just right. Anyway I'm a strong believer in no vest because you get so much more shots you can capture. This stabilizer is amazing in every way. It is super portable which is important so you have it. Faster to setup. Stable when set down (much more than glidecam since those can tip to the side easier than this one). This looks better, and is carbon so more efficient with weight just for balancing, smaller shaft and bearing means less friction introduced through the bearing. It's extremely smooth. Has smooth position knobs without the extra unnecessary locking screws on the glidecam. This has exactly what you need with nothing extra. it's simple to start on and excellent enough for a pro. It can handle my 5D mark III with a 16-35mm 2.8 L which is a heavy setup. It even just scraped by at the edge of balancing same camera with a 50mm 1.2L. I plan on getting some extra weights to make sure I'm set with various cameras such as if I have to put a lav receiver on the hotshoe for single mic work solo shoot with mic running into the camera. I wish they made an identical but just slightly bigger version to compete with glidecam hd2000 size but most small stabilizers handle fine if you add more weight to them. Don't hesitate to buy this. I would recommend this as the most important item to shoot with over a slider, over a tripod (shots need motion people!)

[4.64 lb] This was a spur of the moment purchase when I got a gimble. Im sure I could use a monopod, but the thickness and the shorter length as well as being able to put my ronin tripod stand on the bottom was really nice. Thought I would end up sending it back after I ordered it but turns out its pretty awesome for unique gimble shots. Great purchase.
