Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this compatible with pro tools software & MAC Catalina?

A: The Motu M2 audio interface is compatible with macOS 10.11 or later, and does not require a driver to be installed to run on an Apple computer. Protools and most other DAW's will recognize and work well with this device.

Q: 2. does this interface work with Beyerdynamic DT 990 pro 250 ohms?

A: Yes the Motu M2 headphone output can drive 250 ohm headphones.

Q: 3. Does this work with Canon C70?

A: While PORTKEYS has not listed the Canon EOS C70 Cinema Camera (RF Mount) as tested and compatible with the PORTKEYS REC KEY LANC Controller for Select Cameras, it does feature a LANC port and so may be able to be used.

Q: 4. Will this work to trigger record on atomos ninja V?

A: PORTKEYS REC KEY LANC Controller for Select Cameras is only compatible with PORTKEYS BM5WR 5.5" HDMI Touchscreen Monitor with Camera Control. Atomos recorders and monitors are not compatible with this device.

Q: 5. Is this the newer revision for 2021? It's supposed to be better build and has an upgraded DAC

A: The MOTU M2 Desktop 2x2 USB Type-C Audio-MIDI Interface we have is the most recent version offered by the manufacturer for March 2023.

Q: 6. Will this work with the Panasonic BGH1?

A: Yes, the PORTKEYS REC KEY LANC Controller for Select Cameras is compatible with the Panasonic Lumix BGH1 Box Cinema Camera.

Q: 7. Are the line outs 3/4 able to be switchable outputs? For example I use Vmix for streaming and need to be able to send something different to my speakers than what is going to my headphones. So I want to make sure I can route output 3/4 as like just playback and main outputs as the master.

A: Line Outputs 3/4 will output the same audio that is coming from your main monitor outputs 1/2. The reason for outputs 3/4 is primarily for routing to outboard gear like reverb or effects processors and then bring that audio back into your line inputs, to mix with your existing audio. You can also monitor through another pair of monitors using line outs 3/4.

Q: 8. Are the 1/4" and TRS monitor outputs on back mic level and could you run a mixed signal to a second computer?

A: Both sets of 1/4"/TRS outputs on the MOTU M4 Desktop 4x4 USB Type-C Audio/MIDI Interface are specified as Line level. Either set of outputs would be suitable for sending a mix to another device.

Q: 9. can this work via a powered usb hub? i ony have one usb-c port and need to power my computer.

A: It is recommended that you use a powered USB hub.

Q: 10. is it possible to listen to a microphone plugged into the left channel through both left and right sides of my headphones, or send one mic into both channels?

A: It is possible to monitor channel one through both sides of your headphones with this interface. The Input Monitor Mix button will send a mono input to both channel outputs. As well, if monitoring from a DAW, a mono channel in the DAW will playback in both ears.

[38.5 lb] Needed to move to a full sized keyboard for studio midi work only. Got this recommendation from the folks at B and H and it is truly like playing a regular piano.

[Color LCD] Honestly this controller is perfect for learning and practicing piano. Solid and perfect construction. The aftertouch is great. In other words is perfect for the price.

[38.5 lb] A couple of months ago I bought my first ever keyboard (Yamaha PSR Series 61 key). Never wanted a keyboard before as I cant read sheet music and am not a musician or artist. A couple weeks with my beginner keyboard (using Acid Pro) and soon realized you really do need the full 88 keys. Shopped around a lot before getting the SL88.
The SL88 feels more like the actual Pianos at church (while I am confident our church will continue to use ACTUAL instruments, i.e. Pianos, Organs, etc.. for the remainder of time).
The keyboard feels and plays very nicely after getting used to it.
As a noobie to MIDI controllers I will say the included software is somewhat straight forward, but did have to watch a video on how to get it so sync with the keyboard (so easy really).
Love that it is fully configurable. The gifted synths are very cool if you get them.
Only thing is I would like to have had simple transport controls, as well as a simple button to allow turning off touch sensitivity for certain synths. For this you have to make a profile and switch to it, my old Yamaha just has a button right there to turn touch sensitivity on and off.
Overall love this controller and will be keeping it!

[38.5 lb] Studiologic did an excellent job designing this keyboard. The action emulates the touch of a high-end weighted action keybed, with great piano feel. The SL Editor software works great and gives you a lot of flexibility for creating patches which leverage all of the keyboards parameters such as key splits, up to four pedal assignments, Midi CC, program change, etc. It has great features for live performance such as 3 joysticks and an LCD screen to make navigation easy in low light environments. It is light weight and easy to take to a gig. The only small negative about it is that I wish SL would have put two or three midi-configurable control/push button knobs in the area where the joy sticks are located.

[38.5 lb] I am throughly please with this keyboard midi controller. The action is so much like a regular piano. The build is a good quality, and while it doesn’t have a lot of bells and whistles (which can sometimes get in the way), it performs flawlessly. This keyboard is worth twice the price. If you’re thinking of buying it, do it.

[Color LCD] This is an amazing keyboard with heavy keys. My only complain is with the SL Editor, that could automatically identify the keyboard (currently you have to configure the MIDI section all the times).

[Color LCD] I replaced my Casio PX-160 digital piano for this StudioLogic SL88 Studio MIDI keyboard controller.
I really like the Casio PX-160 key action, however, this StudioLogic key bed with its touch action is a fine replacement to keep my fingers physically fit.
This keyboard in conjunction with the lighter action Novation Launchkey 88 Mk3 MIDI keyboard makes a fine pair for alternating between touch and light action.
This StudioLogic key bed is Fatar TP/100LR, a highly regarded and affordable key bed.
Also this keyboard controller is Made in Italy.
I am quite content with this purchase.

[Color LCD] The Hammer 88 is a no frills MIDI controller with a nice weighted action. Construction seems solid. A pretty good buy for the price.

[38.5 lb] I have to say that it is exactly what I hoped it would be. The feel is excellent, configuration is a breeze, and the computer plate option fits my MBP 15 perfectly. I don't have any sticky keys or any other imperfections that I can identify. I added the SLP3-D Triple Pedal and like the SL88, it is also built like a tank. I was thrilled that Synthogy Ivory II American Concert D was included and it sounds fantastic. If I had to nag on one thing I would wish for a way to dim the LCD. It is very bright and can be a bit distracting at times. Again, no real complaints...

[Color LCD] I love the feel of the keys. Just like what I remember from my piano (still on the mainland, built in 1900, we have no room for it here).

I've only just started exploring its use with my Linux-based software, so I can only state that having the full 88 keys back is WONDERFUL after decades of only 61 keys. A big part of the joy of piano is it covers the entire scale.

Aftertouch works.

I haven't done anything with the three joystick controls.

When I first set it up, I didn't have a USB-A to USB-B cable, so I tried using my MIDI interface, but wasn't able to make that work. I have a history of being flummoxed by old-style MIDI cables, so I may simply have connected it up wrong.

Then I found an appropriate USB cable, plugged it in, and things just worked.

I like the keyboard. I like the fact that it's not loaded up with arranger software, instruments in ROM, or tied to proprietary Windows/MacOS-only applications.

I look forward to playing it a lot!
