You would not be able to view images through the viewfinder, but you would be able to see the LCD screen on the rear of the camera (although the back part of the grip could potentially hinder your view a bit). I typically use mine with a prosumer-grade Camcorder, where the LCD screen hinges out on the left side and can therefore be pivoted for easier viewing. This would also be true if you were to use a camera such as a Rebel T5i or 80D, both of which have an LCD screen that swivels.
