The Electro-Voice ND96 Supercardioid Vocal Microphonefrom Electro-Voice ND96 Supercardioid Vocal Microphoneproduces exceptionally high gain before feedback and is effective on loud stages in large concert and arena-sized venues. Designed to offer superior sound quality, acoustic control, and robustness, the microphone features a large diaphragm capsule, which takes the technology of the original N/Dym capsule to better levels of sonic performance.

Humbucking coil guards protect against line hum and allow you to use it with confidence near speaker cabinets and EMF-generating equipment racks. Plus, a selectable voice presence booster switch reduces certain low-mid frequencies and emphasizes key upper-midrange vocal presence for a more profound vocal edge when driving the voice higher in the mix. The Memraflex grille resists denting and can withstand rough treatment on the stage or in the studio environment.

Finally, vocalists, sound engineers, and musicians can benefit from easy setup due to the ND96's innovative features that solve typical instrument and mic placement challenges in large stage-type productions.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. The overview indicates that it has a rechargeable lithium battery. What model number battery is it? No battery lasts forever. Can it be replaced?

A: The intrnal battery may be replaced by SONY. Please contact SONY directly for details: 1-800-222-SONY

Q: 2. Will the receiver transmit static when the mic is off?

A: The receiver in the Sennheiser XSW 1-825-A UHF Vocal Set with e825 Dynamic Microphone System should not output static when it is not paired with the microphone transmitter. However, as it operates on open channels, it could be subject to RF in the area when unpaired, which could potentially manifest itself as audio static.

Q: 3. Does this work easily with Mac OSX?

A: Yes. It works with Mac OS.

Q: 4. can i use it in europe , voltage problems maybe?

A: Voltage should not be a problem since the power adapter works on 100-240 volts. However, you need to check if the operating frequency ranges are OK for your region in Europe. That by itself would be the reason to buy in Europe so that you can make sure you are operating within the local law and allowable frequency spectrum.

Q: 5. Does this product have a backlight? And if so, what color is the backlight?

A: There is no backlight on this unit.

Q: 6. can I record my live band practice and live karaoke? sound recorded quality?

A: I only use this to record sessions during my technical writing meetings and after all, this is sold as a voice recorder mainly for meetings, lectures, and the like. However, ensure you set the noise level and the mic sensitivity before recording songs or your band. Listen to the playback using headphones instead of the built-in speaker. Also, install the sound organizer on your PC (or download SoundOrganizer_V2001.exe)and research online what you can do with this on your PC. Try a quick recording, be conscience of elements in the room that may cause noise during recording, and play back the results. It may take some time to figure out the best distance to set the recorder from your music source for good results.

Q: 7. Will this work with iPhone 11?

A: Using the Apple headphone adpater this will work.

Q: 8. Can I use this with a laptop headphones jack?

A: Yes, the Voice Technologies VT610TC125 Earphone with Coiled Tube could be used with a 3.5mm headphone jack output on a device such as a laptop. Because the connection on the VT610TC125 is Mono/TS and laptop headphone outputs are usually Stereo/TRS, the earphone may only output one side of the signal, or may sum the headphone output to mono.

Q: 9. Is there a back light on the display? Is it readable in dark environments?

A: The display would have a back light. Unfortunately there isn't a indicator for screen brightness.

Q: 10. Does the on/off button have a mute option?

A: The mic does have a separate mute button in the front part of the mic.

[Presence Boost] The SR117 was marketed on its strength at rejecting plosives. ...It's not great at it, at best it's as good as a standard stage dynamic. SO there's no special sauce. However, you might be able to mitigate with aggressive use of a low cut. However, beyond that, I really like this mic because it is very much a blank canvas, it can take EQ extremely well and can give you some of that studio mic tone in a handheld.

[Mono] I got this for doing interviews for an art photography project, and it works great. The sound is rich and well rounded with very little ambient intrusion due to the excellent side rejection. I am recording with a four track recorder strapped under my DSLR and then feeding it back into the camera. The person who does my photoshop was supper impressed with the quality and commented how much better it sounded that the broadcast quality video rig.

[Presence Boost] I've been using the predecessor EV ND367 mics for many years - and given them as presents to fellow musicians - I just bought this pair of EV ND76 mics as a gift for my musical partner - we all swear by them and we have never found a fault - really fine sound, noise-free, and articulate (fast enough to mic cymbals) - well-built and durable

[Supercardioid] I own several mics from A-Z you name it I got it ! But there's something special about the Nd 96 that I use for my band . The vocals sounds very clear and my lead singer loves it . As always B&H is a great place to buy from and fast delivery.

[Supercardioid] These sound great and are very rejective to feedback. Much more powerful than our old EV ND757's. We purchased 6 of them.

[Presence Boost] For several years I've been pretty outspoken about preferring (any) Sennheiser handheld (835/45, 9, MD etc).. over their Shure counterparts. I've got a deep voice, but there's a significant amount of fry and rasp that comes through. (I do voice over/podcasting/comedy.. not a singer.. just to clarify).

But going back to what I was saying, the classic SM58 for example, its a good and solid mic, but for my voice.. it turns into a tug-of-war trying to tone down some of the really harsh tones that no one wants to hear for voice over, podcasting etc..

So I was pretty skeptical of the SR117.. I knew there was a lot of hype about it's flat response being extremely easy to EQ, but I've never owned a handheld condenser.

Now.. I'm never looking back. No background noise cleanup. It picks up my voice and only my voice even in a room with quite a bit of ambient sound, but it even seems to TAME some of that same uncomfortable grit/rasp/fry I was previously talking about. I don't know if it's because there's finally balance between the lows in my voice with that fry, or if this mic is just great at cutting back on sibilance.

But in either case, the amount of EQ needed to get this thing to the same ear-friendly experience as my go-to Sennheiser 945 was mind blowing effortless. I genuinely cannot believe Earthworks considers this to be a budget option, and if you're needing something for live or studio, I'll gladly throw my vote in for the hype of this microphone.

I haven't used it in a live setting, but when I turn on all of the fans, lights, computers etc in my studio.. the ambient room levels are extremely high, and if it's rejecting ALL of them with ease, I can only imagine it would handle the same feedback rejection in a live setting where the vocalist doesn't need anywhere near the amount of gain I use for just talking.

[Presence Boost] For over a decade I used a Shure SM58 for live performances. While it worked well for singing, audiences would have trouble understanding me when I was just talking in between songs. The E945 provides an added clarity that really highlights nuance when singing and everyone in the venue can now understand me when I talk between songs. It's a very good microphone for live shows.
