Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What is difference between 4800 and 3800 models?

A: As the seller points out, the 4800 is faster. Additionally, it scans closer to the edge of the glass (i.e., closer to the spine of the book) -- 2mm for the 4800 vs. 6mm for the 3800L. The scan edge was what led me to buy the 4800.

Q: 2. Will this work with Multi Mode fiber? Has anyone tried?

A: I have not tried this, but the adapter does not come with a SFP module so it would be worth a try. They recommend SMF because it loses less than MMF. I used 10Gtek 10G-SFP-LR modules and they work great. Blackmagic says it works with any SFP modules so I imagine it will work with MMF but no guarantees.

Q: 3. How long of a run can this handle?

A: Depending on what type of fiber cable you are using, distances can be hundreds of feet to many miles.

Q: 4. Answer to is it duplex scanner in 1 pass is yes . How can scanner scan both sides when book hides backside?

A: That answer is incorrect -- this model is not a duplex scanner.

Q: 5. Can these be ordered with ST connectors?

A: You will need to purchase ST connectors separately.

Q: 6. Is the SFP module included and if so, what type of connector does it use? The pictures kind of look like a LC connector.

A: This product has SFP optical connections for Fiber.

Q: 7. What is the edge size?

A: Pam, I'm not exactly sure of your question. But let me give it a try.The design of the scanner enables it to scan within 2mm from the actual book spine/binding. The scanner glass goes right to the edge of the scanner. There is no frame area on the front of the scanner. This scanner is designed to scan books up to 8.5 x 11 or A4. If you need to scan a larger book, take a look at our OpticBook A300. It will scan up to A3 sized books.Does any of this answer your question?

Q: 8. What is the modulation transfer function at 1200DPI? I ask this question because every scanner I have used gives faded output, that I must raise the gamma to make the scans usable. This adds noise to the scan.

A: While this scanner scans at 1200dpi I would not recommend using that high of a resolution to scan books. You will get HUGE file sizes if you do that. I would recommend scanning books at 300dpi maximum. If you need high resolution, high color accuracy scans for artwork etc, I'd recommend taking a look at our OpticPro A320.

Q: 9. I have a Mac and used to use it in some version of nacOS. However, Plustek stopped providing Mac driver updates, and I no longer even have an older driver. This week I tried an older driver I found on the Italian Plustek site, but it didnt work. Its a great scanner. Has anyone fugured out a way to get it working on a Mac with a recent macOS? I generally use VueScan but am willing to try other options if they work.

A: Unfortunately, as of right now, there are still no official drivers available for this product for the latest version of OSX 10.13.

Q: 10. Does this support Talkback on the ATEM TV Studio 4K?

A: Yes it is compatible with the ATEM Talkback system.

[1640' / 500 m] This is a fantastic item that revives Aputure’s older line of lights. You need the Sinus Link app and some patience. Other than that, everything works great! Took me less than five minutes to set everything up.

[LC] We have a set of 120D-II's and the original Amaran 672's in one of our studios, and this unit is a must for anyone still trying to set those with the little remotes.

This essentially lets you use the Sidus Link app on your phone to send remote commands to your old Aputure lights. You can still set up different channels just like you would for the remote units, so a single Link Bridge can control four different banks of lights.

[1640' / 500 m] I use this unit to split signal from IPAD2 or Laptop or DVI visualizer into separate monitors as well as an HD video mixer. This unit was the only splitter I found that would split the signal and do the HDCP handshake with my mixer.
