Q: 1. How far can I send the SDI signal ? I need to send an HD signal with audio to a conference room and then decode again to a video projector. Any suggestions on the cheapest way to do this with reliability?

A: This totally depends on your cable. We use Canare RG59 HD-SDI coax cable and our longest run is about 200 feet. I use these Blackmagic design boxes in different parts of the building and they work great. There was one that I had to update the firmware, but that was very easy. These are great, reliable products.

Q: 2. Has anyone tried this model with a GoPro to TriCaster?

A: I have used this model on many routers and monitors and never had any issue with the conversion to SDI.

Q: 3. Can you run the HDMI into a DVI adaptor to use with older Mac monitors being this is RGB out?

A: The HDMI input can be either YUV or RGB so this should work with a DVI-D to HDMI cable.

A: No it does not pass the necessary data from SDI to HDMI.

Q: 7. I have been told that this unit heats up after 45 minutes or so. Is it true? as I need to operate it around 10 continuous hours

A: Use mine 12 hours a day for weeks at a time. Heat is insignificant. I have 4 units.

Q: 8. Does this convert the audio from the SDI as well, and does it sync properly, I want to use this to convert my main out from a Blackmagic ATEM TV Studio HD Switcher?

A: Carson,Yes this converter will pass the audio from the SDI input to the HDMI output and the 1/4 phone jacks. Yes it syncs properly. We use a number of these in our studio and in the field with no issues. Make sure your connections are secure and you should have no issues.DJ Video

Q: 9. does it convert 1080p to 4k?

A: No, this device does not convert 1080P to 4K.....4K is 4 times the resolution of 1080P (think 4 1080P signals combined). This device takes a video signal on an HDMI cable and converts it to an SDI cable. Why convert to an SDI cable? Because SDI cables can carry a video signal MUCH further than an HDMI cable can a video signal. What kind of input signals can this device handle and convert to SDI? It can handle video resolutions of 4K, 1080P and lower. But all it s does is convert the input signal from HDMI cable to SDI cable, it does not change the input resolution.....what goes in is what goes out....just over a different kind of cable that can handle longer distances than HDMI can handle. If you want to convert a signal from one resolution to another.....like 1080P to 4K or the reverse 4K to 1080P then you need a video scalar like this product from B and H......SC-HDM-HD42K 2-Port HDMI 4K Scaler from Avenview.

Q: 10. Can I leave this unit plugged in?

A: Most of the racks that we install for clients are left on, but plugged into a battery backup/surge protector.

[Bare Copper] As others noted it is a bit stiff but considering the cable has a solid center conductor it was expected. Overall a good value and just took a extra few minutes to 'un-train' the cable from being in a coil. Rolled it out carefully and then installed it. Connections seem solid and picture quality was as expected and no difference from another cable we had installed in another location. Will be back for our next camera as well. 5

[Yes] Beefy, solid design. Comes in a tight coil, but after laying it all out and taking that memory out it coiled up nice into about an 18 loop. Solid siignal over the 100' length, great solid connection. Loved the dark grey look so I don't get mine knicked by a production house or facility 5
