The Triplett Fox & Hound Wire-Tracing Toner Probe Kitfrom Triplett Fox & Hound Wire-Tracing Toner Probe Kitis a handheld, wire-tracing tone generator and probe kit useful for testing signal throughout any apposite cable (red/green telephone lines, LAN cables, Alarm cables, and more). It features two separate units, the Fox 2 tone generator and the Hound 3 probe, an inductive amplifier which follows the signal generated by the Fox throughout the cable you're testing.

The Fox 2 is battery operated and capable of generating both pulse and warble tones. It has a magnetized back for mounting in multiple situations, as well as an on/off locking button to prevent you from accidentally turning off the unit mid-use. For connection purposes, the unit utilizes alligator clips, an RJ-11 connection point, or an RJ-45 termination (via the included RJ-11 to RJ-45 adapter). Furthermore, the device features proprietary TrueTrace technology for quicker identification of cabling, 120 VAC overload protection in case you touch a hot line, and a continuity tester.

The Hound 3, on the other hand, sports a range of 12", allowing you to trace tones through cables from a foot away. It features adjustable sensitivity and loudness controls, though you can also monitor tones privately via a standard 3.5mm headphone jack. Built-in LED lights at the head of the probe improve visibility in dark areas, and boast the added effect of reducing the noise of fluorescent lights. Additionally, a bandpass filter suppresses unwanted frequencies.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I see other mount options of this lens with the cine-mod option. Is there a version of the Nikon F-mount available with cine-mod?

A: so far not available

Q: 2. Can you use filters or otherwise protect the front element. How vulnerable is the front element to damage if I’m sticking this lens into foliage to get insect shots?

A: No, no front protection is available. A filter will not fit on it. However, the front of this lens is both tough and waterproof. Speaking generally, you may want to consider getting an Allstate Protection Plan if you are concerned about possible damage. A malfunction caused by accidental damage is covered: https://bhpho.to/3wF1yUD

Q: 3. It is Compatible with Sony a6400?

A: Yes this lens is compatible with the Sony A6400.

Q: 4. Hello will this detect low energy bluetooth transmissions?

A: Yes, the Triplett WiFi Hound 2.4 GHz & 5 GHz Portable RF Spectrum Analyzer is capable of detecting low energy Bluetooth audio signal which operates on the 2.4 GHz spectrum.

Q: 5. Hi, would i be able to adapt this lens to a BMPCC4K (black magic pocket4k) Word and adapter?

A: Yes, one can adapt the Venus Optics Laowa 24mm f/14 Probe Lens for Canon EF to a Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera 4K using a few different adapters such as: https://bhpho.to/2KTNKQT or https://bhpho.to/2bMLA0u .

Q: 6. Can this Laowa work with an Epic Red Camera?

A: This is an E-Mount lens, which is not a lens mount available for RED cameras. Instead you would want to look at BH #VE2414C which is the EF mount version. There are EF mounts for RED Cameras. https://bhpho.to/2AW8jtq

Q: 7. Is the aperture automatic? In other words, does it focus wide open and close down to the preset f stop during exposure?

A: The aperture is entirely manual. The camera cannot control it at all.

Q: 8. Will this integrate well via FS5 or FS7 with a Metabones adapter?

A: Works fine with my Metabones.

Q: 9. Does the end of the lens rotate when you turn the focus ring?

A: The front of the Venus Optics Laowa 24mm f/14 Probe Lens will not rotate as you focus it.

Q: 10. To use on the Blackmagic Cinema Pocket 4k, what adapter would be recommended? Metabones? Viltrox? .64? .71?

A: Due to the BMPCC4K having a MFT-sensor with a 2x crop factor, the closest to getting this lens to its original field of view would be the 0.64x, making this approximately a 30mm lens. The 0.71x would give you an approximate focal length/angle of view equivalent to a 34mm. What's recommended would depend on your desired outcome; for example, if you desire crisper detail, the 0.71x would have less compression of detail but offer a narrower view.

[12.0" / 30.5 cm] 3rd one of these we've bought for the service team - not as fast as a Fluke, but a 10th the price, does everything we need

[3 x LED, red] This works really well. I tested it against an alcohol lab thermometer and they were very close.

[3 x LED, red] I purchased the WIFI Hound to troubleshoot a large gym environment to find conflicting WIFI channels and Bluetooth. The graphing and spread sheet style data showed me all the conflicting channels so I could clear the problem. The WIFI Hound worked flawlessly. I have to watch my business partner to make sure he doesn't walk of with it he likes it so much.

[9 V] Very happy with this purchase. Quick way to test all cameras including HD over coax and IP cameras. Works great as a field HDMI monitor too.

[1.3 lb] This is a good and very useful light box for film photography (using it to evaluate black and white negatives) here in 2024. The large size of this panel lets me put two Print File pages side by side which is really nice. This is great for setting two full rolls of 120 film in plastic pages, or two pages of large format films.

I like the brightness settings. Tapping the little graphic on the top of the panel goes from 25-50-75-100% brightness, and it is bright! Dense negatives are no issue for it. Comes with a standard wall power adapter too, not go-find-and-buy-a-separate-USB-power-supply which is also nice.

I do wish the light was more neutral. It's a bit of a noticeable blue cast like all white LEDs. A case would have been nice as an option too for storage.

For the size and price, this is quite good!

[12.0" / 30.5 cm] Works very well for getting into tight spaces. The lens is fairly sharp - not the sharpest, but offers good value in terms of probe lenses.

F40 requires a ton of light. You'll also want a motorized rig of sorts for any movement as the macro lens is very sensitive to small bumps.

All in all - good value compared to the Laowa. Only down side is it an APS-C lens, so you'll get some crop when on a full frame lens.

[1.3 lb] I really need a Lightbox to work on my artwork/cartoons. Once in a while I need to trace a photograph, or trace over an earlier drawing to make it look just right. The Porta-Trace is lightweight, has several different lighting options, and hs a long enough electric cord that you can maneuver the Lightbox easily.

The 12 X 17 size is also amazing: More than large enough to accommodate most of my own artwork. I can't recommend this device enough. The price is right, the lighting is wonderful and the size is perfect.
