Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can Sony PXW-FS5 and FS7 camera command the autofocus on this lens?

A: Yes, the Sony FE 24-70mm f/2.8 GM Lens will autofocus on the Sony PXW-FS5 and FS7 cameras.

Q: 2. This lens shows .24x magnification in the specs compared to Canon's 24-70 f2.8L II that shows .21x magnification. Some of the customer images look macro. Does this lens outperform the Canon lens for extreme close ups? The minimum focus distance on both lenses is the same. How does this work?

A: I do not have a specific answer but I do use the GM 24-70 a lot for kind of macro shots and it works great if the subject is larger than say a postage stamp or thereabouts, especially when around 2 inch or more. I use the SONY 90 mm 1:1 macro lens for most of my macro shooting but the 24-70 is great for flowers, butterflies, etc.....

Q: 3. Does the zoom happen in the body of the lens or does it extend the lens length? Very important to know when balancing on a gimbal.

A: The lens' length extends when this lens is zoomed.

Q: 4. Can I still use eye focus with this lens on my a9?

A: Eye AF works well for me with this lens on an A-9.

Q: 5. Does this lens work on the Sony ax6400 camera

A: Yes, the Sony FE 24-70mm f/2.8 GM Lens is fully compatible with a Sony a6400 camera.

Q: 6. could you please tell me where the sony 24-70mm 2/8 GM made? is it in Japan? Thanks.

A: According to the information we have, our current inventory's Country of Origin is Thailand. Please be aware this can change over the product's production life without notice.

Q: 7. What is the size (width) of the zoom barrel?

A: The FE 24-70mm f/2.8 GM Lens would measure 3.4" wide.

Q: 8. I use the a7s II for video. When using Sony's wired remote, will this lens be able to achieve smooth power-type zooms? Or is this only a feature of lenses such as Sony's E PZ? I'm looking for a zoom lens that will let me shoot 4K footage using a full frame sensor.

A: The Zoom function of this lense is manual not powered.

Q: 9. Is anyone using this lens on the FS5? If so, how's it working out for you? Regrets?

A: I have used this lens for extended video, but on an A7Rii, not an FS5. The FS5 is on my short list, though. The 24-70/2.8 GM has very video-friendly features. Manual focusing is very smooth and manageable, even though it is focus-by-wire and not direct. There is no noticeable focus breathing, and the zoom lens is nearly parfocal. The image quality ranks with Zeiss Batis and Loxia lenses - sharp to the extreme corners. I can tell no difference. The zoom control is a little stiff for video, and neither the zoom nor focus ring is geared for remote operation.. You want a good, stiff head if you're using it on a tripod. For serious video, you should consider a Sony PZ28-135, which has all of the desirable production features, and superb image quality.

Q: 10. Is the autofocus motor silent when recording video?

A: This is pro quality lens. Smaller and lighter then Canon and Nikon. This is silent and fast auto focus lens.

[f/22] I switched from canon gear to Sony. I was really impressed how beautiful colors and great quality this lens have. It definitely feels different from Canon. But I love how Sony improves and ahead of the game so I am not switching back.

[Autofocus] The best lens to ever have. Literally it’s an all around lens. It’s always been my to go lens wherever I go. I have it for half a year and it’s the best decision I have ever made. I know it’s pricey but it’s all worth it. Good combo with my a7 iii

[f/2.8] I have been using this lens for over a year. It's simply outstanding. Function is excellent. Sharpness is great. Reliable and super convenient.

[Autofocus] I have been using this with my A7Riii and they pair for high quality photos. It has sparked my photography and gotten me out shooting more. I'm so excited to have this lens! The only down side is that it's a bit heavy, but I guess that comes with the territory.

[82 mm (Front)] I bought this lens over a year ago and it barely ever comes off my A7riii - I've done product shots, portraits, video, landscape, time-lapses, long exposures - you name it I've done it all with this lens. Photography is expensive and I get that the price tag is nothing to scoff at but if you're truly looking for that "do it all" lens this really can't be matched.

The only minior complaint that I have with this lens is that is basically ruins the form factor of a mirrorless camera. It's very big and heavy and does not play nicely with most gimbal set ups

[f/22] I've only been using this lens for about a month now and it has been exceptionally sharp and renders the images very nicely. Albeit, it's not a fair comparison as the lens I was using prior was the Samyang 35mm f2.8. I've also been using it to shoot video for which I use a Sonya6300 w/ either Sigma 30 or 16 f1.4 or Sony 16-70 f4 and anecdotally, it outperforms in terms of sharpness and lowlight. It's unfortunate that it is so bulky, but I primarily shoot indoors and will occasionally take this lens for wedding shoots (also indoors).

[Full-Frame] This lens is really nicely made, is sharp, almost too big/heavy. I like the programable button on the side of the lens. This is a work horse. I am very happy with this purchase.

[f/2.8] b&h fast shipping is second to none. i placed my order yesterday around 11am and received it approximately 10am today but i wasn't home at the time to test it out until now. the result is astonishing!
it's quite heavy in both aspects the weight and on my wallet ( giggle ). however it delivered sharp images in a few attempts without reading the manual. it did very well in low light room with flash used. the photo below was shot with following setting f4.0/70mm/flash used in ttl mode/iso 320/ exposure time 1/60s.

[3.025 lb] This was my first lens with a Sony A7RV. It's hard to mess up a shot even for a beginner.

[84° to 34°] Phenomenal piece of glass! Mostly a fast prime enthusiast, I did not expect lo like the 24-70mm GMII this much. Super
Sharp and contrasty with flexibility for composition. Feels significantly smaller and lighter than version I.
