Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. why is this lens so expensive?

A: If you remember the Azanuma zooms of the 70's, this is way betterbut so was everything else& just rent it first if you are not sure so that you don't end up complaining and explaining that you purchased it and then got charged a restocking fee when you returned it in some insipid equipment review. At the end of the day people are gonna end up with what they can afford, like, and can actually live withirrespective of any reviews.

Q: 2. How FE 70-200mm f/2.8 GM OSS stands when is compared vs. FE 135 mm f/2.8 GM? As ease of use and handling, image quality, AF effectiveness, objects separation from the background, bokeh, the overall level of satisfaction from each of the both lenses? If we exclude that they are different lenses - prime against zoom, smaller and lighter against bigger and heavier, tripod collar against none and so on.

A: Sony 135mm GM is f/1.8 that's a better lens than 70-200mm f/2.8 , 70-200mm is a very good lens as well more veritable but overall 135mm would be better

Q: 3. Will FE 70-200mm f2.8 GM OSS have working auto focus on Sony FX9?

A: sorry, yes it will work, it will work on all FE not A.

Q: 4. With the multiplier on the A6500 what does the mm become roughly? I am trying to avoid a teleconverter if possible to retain the 2.8. Thanks!

A: The Sony crop sensors are a 1.5 multiplier. The 70-200 f/2.8 would have the equivalent of 105-300 on the a6300/a6500.

Q: 5. What's the weight of this lens?

A: The Sony FE 70-200mm f/2.8 GM OSS Len weighs in at 3.3 lb./1480g.

Q: 6. Its this lenses made in Japan

A: It is not manufactured in Japan.

Q: 7. Is it by design that the manual focus ring on the 70-200GM lens remains active when the camera (and the lens) are set to Auto Focus mode?

A: Yes; in some focus modes, the lens can be auto-focused, followed by a a manual-focus override by rotating the lens focus ring.

Q: 8. I am looking for the nodal points of 4-5 focal lengths covered by this zoom lens before I buy it. Can B&H or Sony help me?

A: I'm sorry but that info would be determined by using the lens on a rail, we do have a 30 day return policy.

Q: 9. Is the new g master lens focus by wire ?

A: While yes, it is focus by wire, and while yes, I hate focus by wire, I recently picked up the 24-70/2.8 GM. That lens is also focus by wire, but unlike all it's little brothers and sisters, this one is not accelerated. If you spin the ring to a specific point on the lens, it will focus the same distance every time. I think Sony realized that they had made a huge mistake with all the preceding lenses (especially since they were marketing these cameras to the video community as well; the video community is heavily manual focus), and adjusted some parameters to do away with the whole acceleration thing because NO ONE LIKES IT. I'm so happy that this was addressed with the GM series. It had me super worried about my purchase until I held it in my hands.

Q: 10. What is it made of

A: The optics are glass and the lens is metal.

[Sony E] The hype is real - I love this lens! I prefer the manual focus to the auto as, once you get accustomed to, it is much faster. It is a bit pricey but in my opinion worth it.

[Autofocus] Exceeds my wildest dreams. I have shot all the best lenses, this one tops them all.

[11, Rounded] I was worried that this lenses would not be a good as the FE70-200 F4. It is better in my opinion. It is very shape and has some nice improvements over the F4 lens.

[77 mm (Front)] I LOVE this lens. I have owned both the EF70-200mm f/2.8L II as well as the VR2 version of the 70-200mm f/2.8 in Nikon. The new GMaster has raised the bar as far as I'm concerned, especially when shooting portraits with the EYE AF mode. It's difficult to get an eye out of focus even wide open and working in close to my subjects. The integral tripod foot is similar to Nikon's and is a superior to the Canon in removal with it's quick release. The lens is SHARP! Tons of contrast and really nice neutral color rendition will allow me to use this for both stills as well as video projects. Sony knocked this one out of the park...

[Full-Frame] It actually took month and a day, from my pre-order with B&H to receiving the lens. With the few dollars I had left, I set up a little informal lens test, (taped dollar bills and stamps on a card) to see just how the lens would perform it terms of sharpness, color, bokeh. And when panning on and off the card, how fast could the lens refocus back to the card? (fast enough for me.) Used different f stops and distances during the test,- camera set to aperture priority. In every case I am delighted to report the lens performed stunningly. Have also hiked around the woods grabbing shots, and again I am very pleased with the results. I know its not inexpensive lens but I am not regretting this purchase.

[Autofocus] The Sony FE 70-200 2.8 GM was well worth the wait. The only negative is it's a bit heavy however yielding fabulous results and fast becoming one of my favorites. I'd recommend monopod or tripod vs handheld for extended shooting. IMO the Sony FE 70-200 2.8 GM OSS will be the benchmark other zooms will be compared to.

[4.94 lb] This is a really magnificent lens. It's extremely sharp. Perfectly built and beautiful to the eye. It may be a little heavy but that doesn't bother me at all. I've used it mainly for portraits so far. It produces pretty nice bokeh and performs flawless in every moment. Here are a few shots made with the lens and the A7ii

[Sony E] I have never owned a 70-200 lens, & had a bit of a void in my lens distances. I'm glad I waited for this to come. I'm still getting to know it's nuances, but very happy so far.

[Autofocus] I bought this lens for A7 before my last trip. With F2.8, I was able to take great pictures of birds and views in the middle range, especially when the light was relatively dim. That is exactly what I am looking for. At the same time, this lens provides a great sharpness to the pictures. The drawbacks are the size and weight. It is not a to-go lens. Also, 70-200mm means that this lens might not be as convenient as a 24-70 or 28-70 in a close quarter shooting (i.e. shooting in a hiking trail or on a street). It is relatively expensive as an Alpha lens. But it worths it.

[4.94 lb] Everything you would expect. Big, fairly heavy - sharp and contrasty at all apertures. Fairly quick AF. The best choice if you need a large, fixed aperture and are willing to pay the price!
