Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. will this work with the e mount on a Hasselblad lunar?

A: To my knowledge it only works with the FE 70-200 and FE 100-400 Sony lenses.

Q: 2. I just got the 1.4x. I'm using it with the A7R3 and the 100-400GM. Pictures seem noticeably washed out. Is this: 1) an error on my part, 2) defective product, or 3) inherent to the teleconverter?

A: I am using the same gear as you, and do not notice any image quality issues.I shoot mainly in manual mode, especially for short range shots. Bump up the ISO to get faster shutter speeds, and manual focus to better control depth of field. You might try shooting some pictures indoors using a tri-pod, with and without the teleconverter. That way, if something is defective, you can narrow it down to one item. Make sure you have a lot of light. Also, check to make sure you have the latest software updates for the camera and lens.

Q: 3. is this converter compatible with aps-c cameras?

A: The Sony FE 1.4x Teleconverter is compatible with any E-mount camera, including the APS-C size sensor cameras. Keep in mind that the teleconverter is only compatible with the Sony FE 70-200mm f/2.8 GM OSS lens at this time.

Q: 4. Is the Sony A9 with the new Sony 100-400 telephoto worth the extra money over say a Fuji X-Tw with the Fuji 100-400 lens? I will mostly be using a camera for still or slow moving wildlife.Anyone with Fuji X-T2 & Sony A9 experience?

A: I have the A9 100-400 with 1.4 and it works great. It is so sharp and fast auto focus. Today I shot 100-400 with 2.0 at 800 and everything was so sharp also. Also really good on flying birds.

Q: 5. Is the 1.4x extender compatible with the 90 mm macro lens?

A: I have the Sony 2x extender and I just tried to attach it to my Sony FE 2.8/90 Macro G OSS lens. IT WILL NOT ATTACH. There is physical interference that prevents the 2x extender from attaching to the 90mm Macro lens.

Q: 6. What's the widest aperture you can get with this adapter and a FE 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 GM OSS lens?

A: The use of the Sony FE 1.4x Teleconverter 1.4x Teleconverter with the Sony FE 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 GM OSS Lens will add 1-stop, resulting in a maximum aperture of f/6.3-8.

Q: 7. Is this converter compatible with the Sony 24-70 GMII Lens?

A: The Sony FE 1.4x Teleconverter is not compatible with the Sony FE 24-70mm f/2.8 GM II Lens. There are currently no compatible teleconverters made for that lens.

Q: 8. Is this converter compatible with the FE 70-200 F4 Lens? Or is it limited to the F2.8 version?

A: No, it is not. At the time of writing this teleconverter is compatible with: SEL100400GM SEL200600G SEL400F28GM SEL600F40GM If you search for "SEL14TC : Interchangeable Lens [E-mount] Compatibility Information" you can find a page on Sony's website which you can use to check compatibility between camera bodies, lenses, and accessories (including this product specifically).

Q: 9. Is this a second generation 1.4 tele converter and is what’s the difference from the first one?

A: No, the Sony FE 1.4x Teleconverter is the first generation teleconverter for Sony E-Mount cameras. There was another teleconverter that Sony made previously to this, designed for the Sony/Minolta A-Mount, which is for DSLR cameras and will not function with mirrorless cameras.

Q: 10. What is the part number for the front cover for the Sony FE 1.4x teleconverter SEL14TC?

A: I examined both covers and don't see a part #.

[0.85 lb] If you need more reach on the compatible lenses for this TC buy it. Perfection in glass.

[0.85 lb] After reading many reviews I bought the Sony 1.4 teleconverter . I'm using it with Sony 300 f2.8 and I don't see any real picture difference. Focus is fast and I have now more reach (420) Just keep in mind you loose one F stop . Very happy with my purchase and looking to get Sony FE 2x teleconverter in near future.

[1 Stop] Great teleconverter and unlike the Nikon tele's this one works on all the lenses. It's crazy sharp on the Sony 200-600 and amazing in it's speed on the Sony 70-200 2.8. It was worth every penny!

[0.85 lb] This teleconverter is being used with a Sony 70-200mm F/4 GII lens and it works well without any obvious degradation of IQ. It is compact and light for its focal length, and balances well on either my A7RV or A7CR.

[0.85 lb] I bought the Sony GM 300 mm lens recently to replace my Sony 200-600 mm zoom, as the 300 mm is considerably lighter, and is an f 2.8 lens. Coupled with this 1.4x teleconverter, I get 420 mm of reach at f 4.0, and 600 mm at f 5.6 with the 2x converter. I did resolution tests as well as focus-tracking tests on birds in flight with both telextenders. The results are excellent. Even with the telextenders, the whole setup is lighter and easier to handle/swing upwards than the zoom lens. My birds in flight photos are superb, and at f 5.6 I'm getting a stop more light than the zoom gave me. It's an expensive lens but was worth it to me for the quality of the results and the greater ease of shooting with a lighter setup.Tracking and focus is super. I use a Sony A1.

[1 Stop] Love my 1.4 tele to get the extra reach when shooting outdoor daylight sports. Lookin forward to seeing what it can do with the new 300 f2.8 when I’m fortunate enough to get one.

[0.85 lb] I don't do a lot of Wildlife Photography, but when I do the 1.4 TC provides 40% extra reach to the 100-400 GM and 200-600 G lenses. It's not cheap but it is well constructed and performs well for a TC.

[1 Stop] I bought this Sony 1.4x Teleconverter to use with my Sony A7R5 and Sony 200-600mm lens. Before purchase, I got tack sharp 61 mpx images at a 600mm reach. Now I get tack sharp images at an 840mm reach. It doesn't produce quite as well in APS-C crop mode. Image quality is hit and miss. I have also used it with my Sony a6600 APS-C camera which gives a 1260mm reach. Image quality is spotty. Some images are razor sharp and some are soft. The loss of one stop of light doesn't seem to make much difference with my kind of shooting. Photographing birds and wildlife at F9 on cloudy bright to sunny days gives good results with ISO's below 1000. I sometimes shoot at F11 and I still get good images. For my camera and lens, I give it 5 stars.
