A: The use of the Sony FE 1.4x Teleconverter 1.4x Teleconverter with the Sony FE 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 GM OSS Lens will add 1-stop, resulting in a maximum aperture of f/6.3-8.

A: I have the A9 100-400 with 1.4 and it works great. It is so sharp and fast auto focus. Today I shot 100-400 with 2.0 at 800 and everything was so sharp also. Also really good on flying birds.

Q: 3. I just got the 1.4x. I'm using it with the A7R3 and the 100-400GM. Pictures seem noticeably washed out. Is this: 1) an error on my part, 2) defective product, or 3) inherent to the teleconverter?

A: I am using the same gear as you, and do not notice any image quality issues.I shoot mainly in manual mode, especially for short range shots. Bump up the ISO to get faster shutter speeds, and manual focus to better control depth of field.You might try shooting some pictures indoors using a tri-pod, with and without the teleconverter. That way, if something is defective, you can narrow it down to one item. Make sure you have a lot of light.Also, check to make sure you have the latest software updates for the camera and lens.

Q: 4. What is the minimum focal distance using the 2x teleconverter on a 70-200mm lens?

A: On the x1.4 teleconverter someone asked this same question and sony support answered that it had no effect on minimum focus distance, I don't know if that is also true for the x2 converter but it probably is.

Q: 5. What is the max aperture will be if I reached the max zoom range at 400 5.6?

A: A 1.4 teleconverter reduces the maximum aperture of the lens it is attached to by 1 stop. If you were to attach this teleconverter to the Sony FE 100 f4.5 - 400 f5.6 lens, it becomes a 560mm f8 lens when zoomed all the way. This is fine in sunlight. When the sun is down, however, noise will be present in your shot at faster shutter speeds. I have this teleconverter and use it on my Sony FE 70-200 2.8 with great results. You may want to consider a used vintage Nikon 500 or 600 F4 AIS manual focus lens for longer reach and reduced noise. It is available from the used department at B and H. I own the 500 and manual focusing is perfectly fine with a tripod. The results are good, and even great considering the lower price of these lenses. Please be sure to order the Metabones Nikon F to Sony E adapter from B and H if this option is for you. Cheers!

Q: 6. Is this converter compatible with the FE 70-200 F4 Lens? Or is it limited to the F2.8 version?

A: Do Sony think that limiting this to the f2.8 will help the sales of that lens? surely all it will do is annoy people and limit the sales of the teleconverter, which could have been a winner with owners of other lenses! Lets hope its only a firmware update thats required and is quick to come. looking at the converter though I do wonder if the raised centre section will physically fit in the back of the FE 70-200 f4?

Q: 7. is this converter compatible with aps-c cameras?

A: The Sony FE 1.4x Teleconverter is compatible with any E-mount camera, including the APS-C size sensor cameras. Keep in mind that the teleconverter is only compatible with the Sony FE 70-200mm f/2.8 GM OSS lens at this time.

Q: 8. IS THERE RESOLUTION LOSS ?

A: Megapixel there is no resolution loss, however there is a slight reduction in overall sharpness.

Q: 9. The specs say 2 stops of light loss, but yet the 200-600 F5.6 to 6.3 becomes a F11-13. How is that only 2 stops of light loss??

A: f/5.6-f/11 is 2 stops and f/6.3-f/13 is 2 stops.

Q: 10. Interesting that the discussion in this forum dates back to February. Where is the Sony 70-200mm f/2.8 lens and where is the matching Sony FE 2.0 converter? They were both announced 6 months ago. And to have the Sony FE 2.0 converter locked to a single lens is a non-starter!

[2x] Very pleased with the image quality. Wide open isn't very sharp but one stop down is. The camera operator on the show I'm on said they have to do the same with the Zeiss lenses they use. 5

[Sony E] First off, I purchased the Sony 2X convertor at the same time as the Sony 200-600mm f5.6-6.3G OSS. It is said that a picture is worth a thousand words.I photo graphed an Azalea flower with my new lens and tele convertor attached to a Sony A6500. I placed them all on a KIRK G1 Gimbal head which rested on a GITZO 500 Giant Tripod. ISO 1,250; 0EV; f14;1/160 sec.; 600mm focal length; Eqivalent Focal length1,800mm. Distance from flower to camera sensor (est.) 22-24 feet. Look at the sharpness of flower parts in the same focal plane left to right. 5

[2 Stop] If you accept that these aren't for making really far away things closer, but rather making reasonably close things frame filling, then its a fantastic bit of kit. If it's too far to get a clean shot of with the 600mm straight out, this won't magically make that possible. Atmospheric interference, stray light, micro tremors... yeah, turning your rig into a telescope with a camera on it isn't optimal for long long distance. But if you're in that good range for the 600 and just want the subject bigger? Insanely good. Negligible IQ loss which is more than compensated for by the reduction, if not elimination, of cropping. On the 100-400, it is just pure magic all around. Yes, it makes it an f11, but... you have an 800 mil lens in a shockingly compact form. Just keep expectations where they should be and this won't disappoint. 5

[0.95 lb] I tested it with Sony a9 II on a Sony 100-400 F 4.5-5.6 lens. It makes it F11.0 Tested it mostly on Bird In Flight and also static Birds with small movement. Focus acquisition is good against flying bird against blue sky. Did not have a chance to try it against water or green foliage. Sharpness and detail are very good with the aforementioned combo. I also tried it on a Sony 200-600 lens. It makes it to be F13.0 which puts it into diffraction zone. It works but I won't recommend using it on that lens much. I also tried it with a Sony a7R IV camera. On the 200-600 lens the Sony a7R IV hunts at continuous focus but works with the Sony 100-400 lens. I will use it with the Sony a9 II camera and Sony 100-400 lens 99 percent of the time. 5

[0.95 lb] I had purchased the Sony 1.4x converter, which is great also, but just had to try this one. It is sharp on my Sony 600 f4 and when the light is right, on my 200-600. But it really shines on the 600 f4. Gives me 1200mm and f8. What a deal! Do't prejudge the 2x if you have used other manufactures cameras and lenses with their converters. These Sony's are in a class of their own and it is the top class. 5

[0.95 lb] The Sony 2.0 teleconverter works perfectly with my Sony 100-400 mm lens. Very sharp optics. I probably should have bought this last year, instead of the 1.4 teleconverter. Perfect for photos out the window of our high rise condo as we shelter in place in this coronavirus era. 5
