Rokinon Xeen 14mm T3.1 Lens For Canon Ef
- Product Code: eq179849

The Canon EF Rokinon Xeen 14mm T3.1 Lens for Canon EFis built specifically for use as a cinema lens. It features an internal focus design so that the lens does not change size while focusing, minimizing the appearance of breathing when changing focus. Each lens in the set is multi-coated for good contrast, glare prevention, and color-match to a factory standard, allowing you to assemble a set over time with minimal color shift. This 14mm lens provides what is considered a very wide angle of view on full-frame cameras, and a tighter angle of view on smaller formats.
The lens features dual-sided focus scales marked in feet, with dual-sided iris scales. The 9-bladed iris provides a rounded aperture for natural-looking highlights and bokeh. The lens is a manual focus and iris lens, and it does not have auto focus or auto iris capability. It incorporates cinema-style focus and iris gears that share the same position across the lenses in the Xeen set. The common 114mm front diameter allows for quick lens changes when using a matte box and focus accessories. The focus ring rotates 200° from close focus to infinity. This gives you a high degree of precision when adjusting focus.

This 14mm lens has an image circle that covers a full-frame sensor. When mounted on a camera with a full-frame sensor it provides you with a very wide angle of view.
The lens features metal construction to withstand the rigors of daily production, and comes with a support foot that can help take strain off your camera's lens port.
Dual right and left side focus and t-stop scales allow your focus puller to work from either side of the lens, without having to flip the lens in the mount or facing upside numerals.
Each lens in the XEEN series shares common focus and iris gear ring positions, which speeds up lens changes as accessories such as follow focus units or iris motors don't have to be re-positioned.
The common 114mm front diameter allows for quick lens changes as you don't have to swap out anti-reflection donuts or adapters to use the same matte box.
The non-rotating front allows you to use optional clip-on matte boxes.
Clickless aperture ring for smooth iris pulls.
A minimum focusing distance of 11" allows you to get up close to your subject.
Related Questions and Answers
Q: 1. If the EF Mount version is adapted with a Metabones adapter onto an FS5/FS7, Will that difference in distance from rear element to sensor throw off the distance marks on the lens barrel for focus?
A: We do not believe it would throw off the distance markers. However, this lens is available with an E-Mount, B&H # ROXN50NEX, you may want to use that model instead for a direct connection to the FS5 or FS7.https://bhpho.to/2HeeiuH
Q: 2. Is there thread for screw on lens filters? What mm?
A: Yes, these are 114mm threads.
Q: 3. What is the image circle size (mm) for this series of lenses?
A: The Rokinon Xeen 50mm T1.5 Lens for Canon EF Mount is part of the Xeen series. The company says all of them cover full frame which has a diameter of 43.27mm.
Q: 4. Does the Xeen line lenses have weather sealing?
A: Rokinon Xeen lenses are not listed as weather sealed.
Q: 5. What kind of horizontal distortion does this lens render on full frame around the top and bottom of the frame? Does it have barrel distortion, bulge distortion, pincushion distortion, or wave/ wiggle distortion? Do lines stay straight horizontally?
A: All extreme wide lenses exhibit some level of barrel, chromatic, and rectilinear distortion. If you wish to avoid these negatives while using wide lenses, do not get too close to your subject and cause barrel distortion or tilt and cause leaning lines. That being said, rarely are there any wide lenses that are truly bad otherwise lens manufacturers would not make any money. Getting on to your question, this Xeen 14mm lens' performance is not known at this time. However, it is based on the Rokinon 14mm and we know that to be very good, especially in light of its low price. Final note: Wide and tele lenses have characteristics unique unto themselves. In the beginning of their camera career, people often look at these characteristics as negatives to be overcome. In time, the user knows what to look for and then exploits these characteristics to storytelling advantage.
Q: 6. Does this lenses support auto focus?
A: I don't think so, as far as I know this is a completely manual lens...but she's a dandy!
Q: 7. Hello, I just purchased a new XEEN 14mm T3.1 Canon mount and Im having an issue that I hope you can help me with. I am using the lens on a Blackmagic Cinema Camera MFT and I am adapting to MFT with the Metabones Speedbooster. My problem is this: With the aperture set to 3.1 the image goes soft and blurry at infinity. I can pull a sharp image if the subject is extremely close (12 or less) but the farther away it gets the blurrier it becomes; like the lens is nearsighted. If I close the aperture a bit the problem goes away but then getting enough light becomes an issue and the lens is still very nearsighted; meaning that if the subject is 6 or more feet away Im having to focus to ?, way way off from the markings. On the spec sheet it says the minimum focus distance is 11 but I can easily pull sharp focus on an object as close as 4. Really clear up close but blurry far away. Is this an issue with the lens? Camera? Speed booster? I should say, I have been using a set of standard Rokinon Cine Lenses with great success 24, 35 and 85 also with a Metabones Speedbooster and, to be honest they seem to be pulling in a sharper image than the XEEN. Being that the ZEEN lens is literally 5x the price that doesnt seem right. What do you think?
A: I do not think anything is wrong with the lens or the camera. Rather, I would suspect the adapter. If the lens is not held exactly in the right place, at the precise flange focal distance, you will have the issues you are describing. In other words, the lens is not at the proper placement to the sensor and therefore it cannot focus to infinity. On top of this, the situation is exacerbated with wide angle lenses in general. While everyone knows that wide angle lenses have great Depth of Field in front of the lens, at the rear of the lens the Depth of Focus (or the area in front or back of the sensor where the lens is placing the image) is extremely limited. (Over on telephoto lenses the opposite is true with limited Depth of Field but huge Depth of Focus.) So I suspect that the Metabones Speedbooster (you did not mention which one you had.) holds the Rokinons well enough but is not holding the 14mm Xeen in the precise position required. I would then have to suggest contacting Metabones with the model of adapter you are using for their opinion. Hopefully, you may able to exchange just the adapter and clear up the problem. However, the solution may have to be sending the camera, the adapter and lens to a camera technician for proper adjustment. info@a href= http://metabones.com target= _blank metabones.com/a
Q: 8. do these lens support 8k?
A: yes this lens will resolve beyond 12K.
Q: 9. Are there any 114 uv protection filter for this lens?
A: You can use 105mm screw in filters on all the Canon Cinema Prime Lenses. Here are three suggestions in good-better-best order: Tiffen 105mm Coarse Thread UV Protector Filter B&H # TIUVP105, B+W 105mm UV Haze MRC 010M Filter B&H # BWUVMC105, Sigma 105mm WR UV Filter B&H # SIUV105Q.
Q: 10. No image stabilzation?
A: You are correct, no image stabilization for the CN-E 14mm T3.1 L F Cinema Prime Lens (EF Mount). Virtually all Cinema lenses do not have image stabilization. Ironically, pro grade equipment generally lags way behind what consumer equipment can do. Mostly it is because there is no need for many of the consumer advances, or there are answers for the problem in say using a dolly, a Steadicam or simply a good camera operator. IS would be expensive to implement and at this time, I am sure the powers that be do not feel the need for it.
