Building on the success of their earlier iterations, the Vanguard Endeavor ED IV 8x42 Binocularsget upgraded with HOYA extra-low dispersion (ED) glass, phase-corrected SK-15 roof prisms, and their advanced MultiGuard optical coatings to improve light transmission, color rendition, clarity, and contrast; while eliminating chromatic aberration. These updated technologies and materials work together to produce an immersive observational experience on the trail, at the range, in the stadium, or sightseeing around town. To pick out feather and fauna details, the binoculars boast an impressive 5.9' close focus distance.

An open-bridge/dual-hinge design helps to reduce weight without sacrificing strength, and provides a large surface area to improve grip strength and security. Textured rubber armoring offers protection from drops and impacts, while further improving the grip and comfort in the hand. Designed for durability, the lightweight magnesium-alloy housing is nitrogen-filled and O-ring sealed to be waterproof, and resistant to internal fogging when moving through extreme temperature changes and environmental conditions. The Endeavor ED IV's provide the performance and comfort birders, hunters, and outdoor enthusiasts require for long observation sessions in all weather.

[19 mm] High quality binoculars for the price. I had read several positive reviews about the optics of the Endeavor ED 8x42's. In hand the binoculars are comfortable. The focus wheel is responsive without unnecessary play. the images are clear, bright and well resolved. I was pleasantly surprised by their quality. Highly recommended.

[Center] Although I've only been using these binoculars for a short time for nature and astronomy, my initial impression is very favorable and they've exhibited no significant vices. It has a very solid comfortable and attractive housing. The focusing mechanism is smooth, quick, free of backlash and has just the right amount of resistance. The optics are first-rate in every respect: they're sharp edge-to-edge with neutral but slightly warm color rendition; there's no barreling effect while panning or noticeable coma (using stars as targets), chromatic aberration, vignetting or flare. Contrast, image brightness and color rendition are all outstanding. The convenient center-locking diopter correction is easy to use and the close focus distance and field of view are very good. While the case is nice it's a tight fit for the binoculars, which make access a little slow. At this point I can't make any determination of the binocular's long-term durability but have no reason to question the quality. I have other much more expensive binoculars (Leica and Zeiss) but the Endeavor IVs will compete with them convincingly.

[5.25 mm] Worth every penny, especially with the $100 manufacturer rebate. A net cost of $129 for this binocular is incredible. The ability to see clearly at low light levels is remarkable.

[Center] I am a birdwatcher and a longtime fan of the Vanguard ED series binoculars. I have the original non-Hoya glass 8 X 42 and 10 X 42 models and had it in my budget to try the latest 8 X 42 ED IV model with the promise to myself that if not considerably better than what I already have I will return. Would the Hoya ED glass and SK-15 prisms really WOW me? I didn't care about the new diopter location design but thought it convenient. Having just recently received these and trying them out the optics are perceptively better mostly in terms of slightly more brightness after some pondering. What made these a keeper for me was the $337 with B&H's credit card's $20 discount price and build quality and feel I could not refuse. The Vanguard Endeavor ED IV 8 X 42 model easily competes in the $600 - $800 binocular price class. Older Vanguard Endeavor ED glass models without SK-15 prisms bragging rights are nearly as good. Once focused on a bird no fine details missed with any of these Vanguard Endeavor ED offerings.

[-4 to +4] These binoculars work well with my glasses. I've had them about three weeks. Fit and finish are good. So far the 8 magnification has been a good choice for watching birds in a suburban neighborhood. I would recommend these to a friend.
