Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I am a serious panoramic photographer, my question is how is this lens perform the sharpness at infinity? i have a nikkor 55mm f/2.8, i don't like it perform at infinity. Thank you!

A: The ZEISS Milvus 50mm f/2M ZF.2 Macro Lens for Nikon F has remarkable sharpness performance when focused at infinity.

Q: 2. Can you use filter for this lens. What is the filter size?

A: Yes, you can use circular screw-in type filters. Filter size is 67mm.

Q: 3. Is there a firmware update to make this compatible with the Nikon Df?

A: No, the ZEISS Milvus 50mm f/2M ZF.2 Macro Lens for Nikon F is already compatible with Nikon Df.

Q: 4. Can aperture be set from the camera body?

A: Yes you can change aperture from the camera body. You need to set aperture ring indicator at f22, then the lens is set as electronically configured aperture mode. I use D850 and Df with same manner.

Q: 5. Is there any noticeable focus breathing when shooting video ?

A: 50mm lenses, even cheap ones, barely breathe at all. I would suspect you would need a laser microscope to measure the breathing on any Zeiss 50mm Milvus.

Q: 6. Is there a mechanism to lock the helicod in place when not extended? Thanks.

A: We are unaware of any a mechanism to lock the helicod in place when not extended.

Q: 7. Is this lens weather sealed?

A: Voigtlander does not list if the Voigtlander Macro APO-Ultron 35mm f/2 Lens for FUJIFILM X-Mount is or is not weather sealed. Chances are it is not.

Q: 8. Can this Zeiss lens be used on a Canon mirrorless (RF) camera with an adaptor?

A: Yes.

Q: 9. How does the "macro" function work? Does the adapter change in thickness by rotating?

A: You are correct. Rotate it and a helical gearing extends the lens so that it can focus closer.

Q: 10. I have Otus 55...will this lens be equal/better/worse?

A: The ZEISS Milvus 50mm f/2M ZE Macro Lens for Canon EF is a macro lens and the ZEISS Otus 55mm f/1.4 ZE Lens for Canon EF is not. Optically the 55mm is a higher level line and is sharper.

[2.3 oz (66 g)] This lens is my bread and butter. For all of my client work I need something with a consistent look across the entire aperture range. Up until purchasing this lens my primary client glass was a sigma 24-70 2.8, which although beautiful, got soft when zoomed in to 50mm and under performed in other areas.

Aside from the performance of this lens, there are two things I adore: It's construction and color consistency. Despite being incredibly light, this lens is built like a tank. I travel frequently and it holds up very well. Because Zeiss improved the color rendition in the CP.3 line, I often rent the 85 or 100mm for my b-cam and have a easy time matching up cameras.

Much of my client work requires cropping in substantially (thanks Instagram) and I can comfortably shoot this at it's minimum aperture of T2.1 for a tack sharp image that can be scaled up in post.

I think this lens' greatest competition is the Canon CN-E line, which shoots warm and renders terrible onion skinning on the bokeh. For me this is unforgivable, and I'm happy to see a neutral, clean image coming from the CP.3 line. Assuming this is the look you need, I'm not sure you can get a better lens in this price bracket.

[2.3 oz (66 g)] The ZEISS Milvus 100mm f/2M ZE Macro "has it all" for professional macro photography - Super sharp lens even at wide open aperture (and very sharp at f5.6 to f16), color rendering is just beautiful and the way it controls highlights is superb! the only thing you have to be aware of is the color fringing that is noticeable when you shooting at f2 wide open (easy fix in Capture One or Lightroom) - but it disappears at f3.5 and beyond. It's a wonderful high-quality lens especially for studio work using a tripod and manual focus.

[0.63 mm] I absolutely love the CP.3 lenses. The 85mm is an absolute Beauty. Having a compact, lightweight, well designed, and optically beautiful lens is a huge selling factor for me. I don't buy lenses that aren't build well and these are tanks. Zeiss did an incredible jobs redesigning these. I highly recommend. I use them on the Red Komodo and will soon try them out on the Red Raptor, although I know they will work great with it. Definitely a must buy or rent depending on your job or project. Worth every penny

[2.3" (58 mm)] I have to be honest, the price of the lens was for a long time an obstacle for me. I already own a 50mm 1.8 Nikkor, so spending over $1200 for another 50mm was really a struggle for me. I have spent days and days reading different reviews and experiences from different photographers... but in my heart I knew I wanted a Zeiss on my D750. As soon as I spotted the discount - I ordered!

To cut the story - it works perfect!! Brings out the full potential of that sensor. Mind blown with how colors are true and vivid. Sharpness - well, it is a known fact for a Zeiss, so it is not a surprise.

My wife noticed immediately that photos look 3D-ish compared to the ones I have taken with other lenses. And that was exactly what I was looking for.

Manual focus is very precise and EASY to use. I have used it only handheld so far and had a very small number of missed focus. Even my sister ( who doesn't use DLSR in real life ) took some great photos of me... spot on focus.

I was never into a macro, but this close focusing possibility really gives me more room to be creative. 1:2 ratio is just enough for me.

The lens is superb! I enjoy every single photo that came through this lens.

[28.2mm] A gorgeous lens. The micro-contrast and sharpness I get with this is ideal for food and still life photography and for me, worth the price. I am happy with my investment and I can tell it will be the only 50mm lens I'll need for years to come.

[2.3" (58 mm)] Great lens. It was the first Zeiss Milvus I bought (have since also bought the excellent 25mmf1.4 and 85mmf1.4). It's been one of my main workhorses in rough places and it still feels like new, so great build quality. The optical quality is remarkable and the macro capability is definitely a big plus.
