Portrait-length 85mm prime is compatible with full-frame Sony A mount cameras, and can also be used with APS-C-sized sensors where it will provide a 127.5mm equivalent focal length.

Fast f/1.2 maximum aperture benefits working in difficult lighting conditions and also enables extensive control over your focus position to benefit the use of selective focus and shallow depth of field techniques.

Two extra-low dispersion elements and four high refractive index elements help to reduce chromatic aberrations and distortions throughout the aperture range for greater sharpness, clarity, and color accuracy.

Manual focus design utilizes a floating elements system to permit focusing on subjects as close as 3.3' away.

De-clicked, stepless aperture ring permits smooth, silent aperture adjustment to benefit video applications.

An 11-blade rounded diaphragm contributes a pleasing out-of-focus quality when working with selective focus techniques.

All-metal lens barrel features printed depth of field and focus scales. Additionally, a metal lens mount also offers increased durability between the lens and camera.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I see the lens has electrical contacts on the mount. Can I assume focal length and aperture data are communicated to the camera body?

A: Unfortunately Mitakon lenses do not support EXIF data.

Q: 2. Is this a lens that would work on Nikon D3400?

A: Yes, this will mount onto your camera.

Q: 3. I have an older Nikon D40 will this lens work with it?

A: This will work with a Nikon D40.

Q: 4. Does this focus the Canon/Zeiss direction or the Pentax/Nikon direction? Photos show it focusing and f-stopping backwards to all my other Nikon lenses.

A: The focus ring on the Mitakon Zhongyi Speedmaster 85mm f/1.2 Lens for Nikon F focuses counter clockwise or in other words, normal like Canon and all other camera brands.

Q: 5. I have a nikon d3000. Is it safe to assume that this will only work in manual mode for my camera?

A: Correct. You won't have exposure metering either so be prepared to meter separately or go through a very tedious sequence of trial and error exposure adjustments.

Q: 6. Is the minimum focus 80cm as stated? Every Nikon mount version Ive seen has been 1m.

A: According to the manufacturers website, Mitakon Zhongyi lists the minimum focus distance of the Mitakon Zhongyi Speedmaster 85mm f/1.2 Lens for Nikon F as 1 meter (3 feet). Our website lists it as 2.62' (80 cm). This appears to be an error on our website and should be corrected shortly.

Q: 7. where is this lens manufactured?

A: According to the information we have, our current inventory's Country of Origin is China. Please be aware this can change over the product's production life without notice.

Q: 8. If I use this on an A7Rii and use Metabones Adapter Ultra ii 0.71x, is it still going to be fullframe? Do I need to crop it?

A: The lens and camera are both full-frame, but the Metabones 0.71x adapter does make the lens perform 29% wider than normal, so it would actually be a 60mm equivalent.

Q: 9. Can i double check is this for sony A mount? for Sony A99 use ?

A: As the Mitakon Zhongyi Speedmaster 85mm f/1.2 Lens for Sony A is designed for usage on the Sony Alpha/Minolta MAXXUM lens mount, the lens would be compatible for use on the Sony Alpha a99 DSLR Camera.

Q: 10. Is the focus and aperture ring geared or fly-by-wire?

A: This is a manual focus only lens. There is no AF or focus by wire.

[Full-Frame] I wanted to try a 85 mm prime lens for portraiture and I tried this one. I get good image from it and love it on my 1.6x 7DMKII (136mm 35mm equiv. which I love) The construction is good, all metal, and image that come out are good. I'd recommend it; good price, good quality, easy enough to use it.

[Manual Focus] I ordered the lens the moment I could from the manufacturer. I no sooner received it and got a notice that the lens had a problem and needed to be replaced with a new version that corrected the softness issue. Return postage paid. I was annoyed that it had to go back, but to give them credit, they owned up to the problem and took it back immediately. They followed up by sending me the upgraded version. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a way to know which version is for sale. I would assume all new versions are the repaired ones. [Full-Frame] I first hesitate to buy this lens, but I found very positive feedbacks about Mitakon, a lens manufacturer from Shengyang, China. In the past, Chinese made lens have a poor reputation for quality, not so for this company!

[f/1.2] Exactly what I was hoping for. Nice solid metal build. Great bokeh. The f stop ring is quiet too so would be good for youtubing. It is my new favorite toy.

[77 mm (Front)] this is a great lens. Build is very solid. The lens is heavy only in comparison to the native FE lenses (it's equal to the Nikon 85.) I personally like it more than he Canon 85mm 1.2. The only downside is that on the lower apertures the bokeh looks more ghosted than the Canon and Nikon up till F2. As someone else noted the Mitakon lens hoods are terrible and cheap. But the lens itself is the opposite.

[11, Rounded] I got this lens along with the GFX 50R a little over a moth ago while waiting for the MZ Speedmaster 65mm F/1.4.

Admittedly I was not familiar with either the camera or lens at the time, however after spending some time with both pieces of equipment I found out truly how this lens shines on the 50R medium format system.

Most reviews or commentary on the lens speaks about the heavy vignetting. It does have this like crazy, but after an epiphany I realized that in order to use this lens successfully and to maximize its 1.2 aperture you need to set your camera to 35mm mode.

The lens' rear element is clearly a 35mm format and the added built on flange to fit the GFX system needs to be treated like an adapter to the G mount.

Once you set your camera to 35mm mode, use manual focus peaking your good to go with this lens on the GFX system.

Is it the sharpest lens? No, but you get an old school manual focus lens with imperfections that lend to its character. You should never pixel peep on a lens like this. It is definitely a budget lens that will serve the photographer on a budget.

That being with correct photographic techniques, lighting, composition etc this lens will give you a unique look that is full of character and dreamy artistic fun.

[Manual Focus] Focus throw is long which is great for video and what I bought it for but might be a bit long for photography if you're looking to catch a shot in any kind of speedy manner. Very hefty build quality and feels like a much higher priced lens. Can't say enough about the image quality for the price.

[Full-Frame] Using this with a Pentax KS1 and enjoying it. I mostly take it out on hikes and bird/animal watching.
