Related Questions and Answers
Q: 1. can the keys be programmed separately from a regular keyboard? As in, I want the keypad 1 to be ctrl + 1, but I don't want my regular keypad to change the meaning of 1?
A: Have a look at: http://www.hidmacros.eu/whatisit.php -- I think that would do what you want (distinguish between different input devices as keystroke sources).
Q: 2. Two products that I have recently purchased from BH, first, Wein SSH Safe-sync, second, Vello HSA_PVU Hot Shoe Adapter, have both failed to fire the flash which is a Norman studio power pack connected via PC sync cord. I am connecting to a Nikon D3300 via the hot shoe on the camera. The camera hot shoe works to fire a portable flash connected directly, so I don't think there is a problem with the camera's hot shoe or maybe this camera cannot handle external flash connections? Nikon says that it can. What to do? Would a radio powered transmitter/transceiver work? Is this a camera problem? Thanks.
A: Unfortunately, we do not have enough information to assist you via this forum. The best I can state is if the camera's hot shoe is working properly, I would recommend trying the adapters with a different flash to see if the adapters fire with a different flash. If so, the issue may be the sync terminal of your power pack or the PC sync cable you are using. At this point, you have only eliminated the hot shoe as properly working, but have not identified if the adapter, sync cable, or sync terminal on your pack is the issue. All other variables have to be eliminated to find the issue. The above test would verify if the adapters are working. Switching a PC cable with a known working flash would indicate if the PC sync cable you are using is working. If the adapters and PC cables are all working with other items, then the issue may be the sync terminal on your power pack, which would need to be sent to Norman or a repair center for inspection/repair. If it is your sync terminal, then purchasing a wireless radio remote system would not work as they still utilize the power pack's sync terminal to connect the radio receiver/transceiver to the power pack. I would recommend to use the items you currently have to confirm or eliminate the issue. As you state the hot shoe on the camera is working, it does not seem to be a camera issue.
Q: 3. What is the warranty on this product?
A: The Vello HSA-PVU Hot Shoe Adapter with Safe Voltage Conversion includes a limited 1-year manufacture warranty.
Q: 4. Will this hot shoe adapter work on a Vivitar 283 on any camera?
A: Yes, it is compatible with the 283 flash on a hot shoe camera.
Q: 5. Will this work on a r6 MkII? If not, what will work on the R6MkII that has a PC sync connection?
A: The Canon EOS R6 Mark II Mirrorless Camera has the Canon Multi-Function Shoe. The Vello HSA-PVU Hot Shoe Adapter with Safe Voltage Conversion is compatible when using the Canon AD-E1 Multi-Function Shoe Adapter, BH #CAOCSAADE1.
Q: 6. I have a Vivitar 283 strobe, which I realize can be fired on my Nikon D700 using this Hot shoe adapter. Can my TTL quenching work with this system in the same way it does with Nikon strobes?
A: No, the 283 should be shot in manual, E-TTL will not work with this strobe.
Q: 7. Does this work with newer sony cameras with Sony MI? (A7s, A7r, A7rII, etc?)
A: The manufacturer does not recommend using this on the Sony MI shoe. Even though the Sony MI shoe looks similar to a standard shoe, the hot shoe pin of this adapter may very well not line up. It is always recommended to buy devices specifically made for the Sony MIS.
Q: 8. What is the weight of this mount?
A: The weight of the Encased Mag-Safe iPhone Mount for DJI OM 4/4 SE/5/6 Gimbal is not listed by the manufacturer. The total package weight is .014lb.
Q: 9. I have an OLYMPUS T 10 Ring flash with an OLYMPUS T Power Control from my Film SLR days (OLYMPUS OM2 Camera). Would the Vello HSA-PVU Hot Shoe adapter with safe voltage conversion allow me to use this ring flash on my Nikon D800, D750 & D7000 DSLR Cameras without risk to the camera electronics? I realise that this would probably only work in Manual and not TTL metering modes
A: That flash is on the older side and it might be a bit safer to use a safe voltage hotshoe adapter that is rated for more like the Wein Safe-Sync.
Q: 10. This unit runs on a battery. My question is, if the battery fails in the middle of a shoot, will it make it impossible to fire the flash from an older power pack? Or will it still fire with potential damage to the camera?
A: According to Vello, they state that if the battery dies, the HSA-PVU Hot Shoe Adapter would still provide voltage protection for your camera. However, the PC sync terminal may lose the ability to trigger the flash or power pack connected to the adapter, depending on the voltage needed to trigger the unit. So the short answer is if the battery dies, your camera remains protected, but the flash connected to the adapter may not fire.
