[0.1 lb] Honestly, I wasn't expecting much. I'd used the 7Artisans 75mm f/1.25 and it was ok at best. But this lens is SHARP with a really modern rendering. It's comically large on a Leica M body but fits a normal mirrorless or camera like most other 85mm lenses out there. Would 100% recommend if you're a Leica M photographer and have access to a digital body for calibration.

[0.1 lb] Stuff I like: Great sharpness, contrast, color for landscape, ditto for close-up, great small size/weight and great click-on lens hood (ALL OF LEICA'S LENS HOODS SHOULD BE DESIGNED EXACTLY LIKE THE 90MM MACRO ELMAR'S). Not so good: I get that this is a rangefinder lens, but it has a poor native macro focusing ratio of 1:6:7, which only improves to 1:2 with the Leica Macro-Adapter-M. (I bought the somewhat-more-versatile Novoflex Adapter Kit for Leica M-Mount, Visoflex Lens to Leica M-Mount Camera, but I'm still not near 1:1.) Conclusion: I primarily bought the lens for landscape, and it's a swell, compact lens for landscape and casual close focus, but is not for hardcore macro shooters imaging stamps and coins and other tiny stuff.

[Proprietary] Chromatic aberations provide a sort of out of focus beauty for B&W photography. Anyone noticing this?

[3.1 x 3 x 1.6"] If you do not need large apertures, this Leica Macro-Elmarit 90/4 ASPH is a great lens for the Leica M. I use it like a non-macro lens.

[3.1 x 3 x 1.6"] Put this collapsed lens in your pocket as your alternative to a 35mm on the camera and you are good to go. In 2021 on an M10 with higher ISO, the f/4 is plenty fast. It is super sharp. No, even with the macro adapter it is not a true 1:1 macro, but it does close focus. Why is it so expensive? Because it has no collapsible competition from other makes. I have had other 90's that I was unwilling to haul along, so they were unused. A cheaper unused lens is not a bargain. If you are using a Leica M, you appreciate small compact lenses. This is small and compact.

[3.1 x 3 x 1.6"] Sharp. Tiny. Macro is a bonus. Pleasure to walk around being able to take 90mm filed-of-view photos with such a small package on an M11. Collapsible mechanism feels as solid as you'd expect from Leica.

[Proprietary] I have been an SL user for the past three years. I shoot mostly wildlife but also do portraits and landscapes. THe SL1 has been fantastic but when I saw the increased resolution and more importantly the IBIS on the SL2 I had to make the move. After trying the camera out several times in Leica stores I made my purchase. I am able to get tac sharp images handheld easily down to 1/30sec and with a bit of breathing down to 1/8sec. The camera also breathes new life into my older R lenses, especially my 100mm APO Macro, which was virtually unusable on the SL Type 601 without a tripod. I am also able to get sharp shots on my 90-280 at the long end at 1/50, though a bit more consistently around 1/80, still pretty fantastic. The higher resolution also gives me the ability to maintain detail after cropping, and I'd say 50% crop and more is still well within tolerance. The menu system and button layout are also amazing, by far the best of any Full Frame Mirrorless camera. The grip is also much better than the Type 601 and the ability to charge or run with battery via USB-C is super nice. Battery life is a bit shorter but not bad. I am also still in process of experimenting with video but so far its pretty good, though without an external recorder it will have its limits. Overall for the price and given the numerous upgrades from the 601 the SL2 is a no brainer upgrade IMHO.
