Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I need for a specify shot to have 2 subjects in focus, 1 is 10 meters behind the other, for that, I need to set manually the lens to f 11, min, and zoom in manually, Does the lens allow this? or is it locked at T4.4 , f4 stop?

A: T4.4 is the maximum aperture. If you need to stop down the lens you can do so with the aperture ring. The lens also has a Zoom and Focus Ring for complete manual control if desired.

Q: 2. Does the lens need the Y- cable to use both controls?

A: Yes, there is only one 20-pin port.

Q: 3. How to do backfocus on this len?

A: Please see page "E17" for a step-by-step guide on how to set the back focus, for the Canon CN-E 70-200mm T4.4 Compact-Servo Cine Zoom Lens (EF Mount). https://www.bhphotovideo.com/lit_files/1021692.pdf

Q: 4. The specs indicate the lens is suitable for 4K compatible image capture. Does it mean it s useless on a URSA mini pro 12k?

A: The CN-E 70-200mm T4.4 Compact-Servo Cine Zoom Lens is a high quality Cine servo zoom lens, made to provide excellent image quality and operations. If you favor the look of Canon lenses, you might be quite pleased with this lens on the Blackmagic Design URSA Mini Pro 12K.

Q: 5. Do you now a good adapter for the lens support? Using a BMCC6k

A: Please review the following lens support. Wooden Camera Universal Lens Support (15mm LWS) https://bhpho.to/3keg7sM

Q: 6. Is this lens compatible with Blackmagic Design Studio Camera 6K Pro (EF Mount) for zoom/focus via USB C controllers?

A: Yes, the Canon CN-E 70-200mm T4.4 Compact-Servo Cine Zoom Lens (EF Mount) does support control using Black Magic's Zoom and focus demand controllers.

Q: 7. Is anybody using these for live broadcasting? I'm wanting to go here with a Super35 sensor instead of B4 with 2/3in sensor for the better image quality. These do give me full servo and all the broadcasting features I need, right? Looking at using with an URSA Mini Pro G2.

A: Yes people are using this lens for broadcast and yes you can get full servo control when using this with a Ursa Mini Pro G2 however many still prefer to use 2/3in sensors because they offer larger zoom ratios. For instance a typical 2/3 sensor lens is between 17x and 25x optical zoom this Canon 18-80mm offers about 4.44x zoom. This lens is also a T4.4 which does not let in as much light as a broadcast lens which typically have apertures of f1.8. The Canon 18-80mmn is very capable of capturing beautiful images it can be controlled in a similar fashion to most B4 lenses (either via the zoom rocker on the lens or via tripod mounted lens controllers) and unlike most B4 Lenses this lens has a constant aperture throughout the zoom range (most are 1.8 at the wide end and around 2.4 at the telephone end) but you have to keep in mind that it requires a bit more control and planning to compensate for the reduced zoom range and smaller aperture.

Q: 8. Is this lens compatible with the Canon EF 2x extender?

A: The Compact Servo 70-200 is compatible with the Canon EF Extender 1.4X Version III and the Canon EF Extender 2X Version III when being used with the Cinema EOS C100 Mark II, C300 Mark II and C700 and supports CONTINUOUS AUTOFOCUS with both extenders at all Iris Settings. Below are the links to the compatible EF Extenders. a href= https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/732113-USA/Canon_4409B002_Extender_EF_1_4X_III.html target= _blank https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/732113-USA/Canon_4409B002_Extender_EF_1_4X_III.html/a a href= https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/732111-USA/Canon_4410B002_Extender_EF_2X_III.html target= _blank https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/732111-USA/Canon_4410B002_Extender_EF_2X_III.html/a

Q: 9. The lens is spec super35 70-200 4.4. Is the 70 to 200 for frame equivalent or is that what it is for super35? If it is for super 35, then is the full frame equivalent like 100-280 because of the 1.4x crop?

A: Lenses are always listed by their physical focal length and are then subject to the crop factor of the camera, even for lenses designed for Super 35mm. This will be the equivalent of a 105-300mm with a 1.5x crop.

Q: 10. is the lens parfocal?

A: According to Canon: This parfocal cine lens maintains focus while zooming and has a constant maximum iris of T4.4 across its zoom range. The 70200mm T4.4 EF lens is parfocal in both manual and autofocus modes.

[Full Frame] This lens had been purchased for a Canon C300 MK III, and it did not disappoint. It is sharp, contrasty and quick to focus in AF mode. My only complaint relates to the included zoom rocker grip. If this lens is to be used with the aforementioned cine camera, the grip will physically impede the use of the camera's own grip and it will have to be removed. I've replaced the zoom rocker grip with a 3rd party zoom control that completely solves the problem.

[2x] The lens produces sharp and pleasing images when coupled with my C300 Mk III, and the Image Stabilization is welcome feature. The Focal length range is wonderful as well, however, the included grip cannot be used in concert with that of the camera because there isn't enough room between them. I had to replace the needed zoom rocker with a 3rd party device that works well, even better than the one provided by the grip. With that exception I would buy it again.

[15 to 30mm] When you think L glass primes are sharp, try these on for size. Clarity is immediately noticed when shooting on a RED Raven at 1:1 on a 7-inch display. Even at 8:1, the sharpness is uncanny.

remarkable results from all four

[ARRI PL] I know a lot of people are down on this lens because it is slow but I love it! It is parfocal so when I zoom in and focus and zoom back out, it stays in focus. The photography lenses would drive me crazy, not holding focus. Is also a very nice zoom lens.

[9.55 lb] Wonderful lens for the Blackmagic URSA Mini G2! Can control focus, iris and zoom using LANC thru the lens mount or ATEM software. Only bummer is the T4.4...would have been better with 2.8...but fantastic lens nonetheless.

[T2.9] This lens is a lot lighter than I thought it would be. What is not to like about a parfocal lens? The lens is expensive, but it is so much easier to use and allows the user to just concentrate on the shot or the story.

[2x] We paired this lens with the C200 for our church livestream services, it has taken the image to a whole new level. It is sharp, clear, and it produces a good image.

[T22] This lens had been purchased to be used with a Canon C300 Mk III. It is sharp, renders beautifully and is relatively lightweight for a zoom of this magnitude. The accompanying grip, however, represents a terrible mismatch for the C300 with its own grip attached, as they come so physically close as to make either one unusable. I have removed the lens grip and have placed it back into the box that it had arrived in and I suspect that it will never see the light of day. It really is a shame, since the lens grip allows for modulated zooms that excel when compared to the controls mounted on the lens itself. In summary, I would give 5 stars for the lens, and and 0 for the grip.

[T22] I have read several reviews that have taken issue with this lens being labeled as a 'cine' lens. The reviewers had not been specific about their complaints, but I have found the lens to be a much sharper renderer than its non servo, EF equivalent which I do own. With a 3rd party zoom rocker it functions smoothly. That said, when combined with a Canon C300 Mk III, its C-AF is somewhat slow, but accurate. The OIS, on the other hand, functions beautifully.
