A: I think the main advantages of these protective wraps are 1) the inside (against your gear) is a soft felt-like material which protects the surface finish of my gear; 2) the outside cover is durable and the color coding is helpful when switching between several similar sized / shaped pieces of gear (lenses, bodies, etc) ;3) the hook and loop (velcro) fasteners keep the covers in place without the need to use rubber bands or tape to keep them in place; 4) when not in use they fold up into each other fairly flat so I can keep them handy and together; 5) the 19 x 19 size wraps a 70-200 /f2.8L lens with the tripod mount collar and the lens hood on reversed and by the time its wrapped there are several layers of material surrounding the lens. Can a towel protect your gear in a bag any better, hard to say as I've not tried it.

[Red] This 15 wrap is soft and thick so it provides a lot of padding if you are wrapping a lens or medium-sized camera (e.g. Nikon D500 with a small lens) to put in a backpack, etc. The velcro tabs on each corner hold quite well and allow the wrap to be used at various angles, different orientations. When not in use it can be folded and placed on the bottom of your backpack for extra padding. I like the bright yellow colour for when you're looking in the bottom of your bag in low light. 5
