Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What are the differences between the D500 and the D500 100th Anniversary Edition (besides almost $1000)?

A: You are paying for the decorations celebrating the company's 100th Anniversary. There is no difference in handling or image quality.

Q: 2. I consider myself amateur photographer/hobbyist, and have only ever owned a Nikon D3300. My favorite subjects to shoot are nature/wildlife, landscapes, and people. Would the D500 be worth the upgrade?

A: Hi Ben, it looks like a lot of very good suggestions/options have been posted before my answer. So, to elaborate further I concur on getting better glass to go with whatever body you choose. (Always try to shoot with good glass) as for the d7100-d7200 choice, go with the d7200. I would not bother with the d7500 upgrade since you can save more money with the other choice i own the d7100 and it was a good camera when it released and still is but once i got the d500 i have not used. (d7200 has some better updates & low light abilities over the d7100) The d500 is an amazing camera and you will definitely be able to shoot with it for years and not out grow it! I shoot basically same subjects as you but alter between d810 FF for landscapes & portrait and d500 for wildlife/birds and dog images (phodography) but the d500 can do all subjects obviously as will the d7200 - if you can find a clean used d7200 at b&h that could be good to save $$. IF money is not a factor then go big w/d500 but only if that includes some good glass! I would recommend 200-500mm f5.6 or 300mm f/4 PF ED VR lens, the newest one which is incredible and small/lightweight or even the older version 300mm but bigger/heavier and no IS - you may find some decent prices on these lenses in the used dept as well. The d500 is a high speed, fast focusing/tracking/buffering,low light demon! The other cameras mentioned get the job done but not as quickly- the image quality from all 3 is excellent. Good luck with your choice & happy shooting!

Q: 3. Is there printed manuals coming together with the D500 and the 16-80mm lens?

A: 2 manuals, eng & sp! focuses fast in dimmest light; sharp & 10fps @ 21mp + 1300exp/chg; MUCH to like @ 1/2 the D5$. &, your 16-80 is great on an fx nikon. iso 100k(+2-3) often possible!

Q: 4. Will the Nikon D500 autofocus the Tokina 11-16 zoom lens?

A: I do not have this lens, but I believe the D500 has a focusing motor in the camera body, so it should work. Found an article which confirms my guess.

Q: 5. The specs list the focus modes on the D500 as continuous and manual, only. Is there a single-servo (AF-S) mode on this camera (so focus can be locked)?

A: Yes, there is single-servo autofocus on the Nikon D500.

Q: 6. What is the return policy on refurbished items?

A: Should you be dissatisfied with an order, you have 30 days from date of purchase to make a return with all of the original materials included. Full details on our return policy can be found at the following link: http://bhpho.to/19fUBwL

Q: 7. Can I use the G series XQD card in the D500?

A: Yes, G series XQD cards can be used with the D500.

Q: 8. Will SB 500 flash work with the D500 camera? I contacted Nikon and all I was told was that the SB500 flash is not listed (one way or the other) as compatible or not with the this camera. I am not ready to spend .$600 on a flash at this time but would be able to swing the cost of the entry level SB 500

A: As the SB-500 is designed for Nikon DSLRs, the two will be compatible.

Q: 9. Does it explain the different sports shooting modes?

A: Yes

Q: 10. Sqare Trade Protection Plan (STPP) for D500: Square Trade technicians are not trained by Nikon. How do they know how to fix problems with this complex, brand new camera? Talking to STPP representatives on the phone did not provide any answers. It's confidential I was told. What do others think of STPP?

A: Square Trade is an excellent protective plan for electronic goods. Their repair service is highly esteemed by many customers.

[0.04 lb] The writing is very small, if you can't read VERY small print, I recommend having an inexpensive magnifying glass with you in order to read it, maybe one that lights up if you are going to be out at night. I know my camera well enough that I didn't really think that I needed this, but it has come in handy! I highly recommend it!

[Bert Sirkin] I keep my cheat sheet in my camera bag - it beats carrying around the manual, everything is color coded, easy to read and very handy - also laminated to protect against moisture.
