Designed to provide a wealth of control over out-of-focus quality and to enhance bokeh, the Laowa 105mm f/2 STF Lens for Pentax Kfrom Laowa 105mm f/2 STF Lens for Pentax Kis a short telephoto prime designed for full-frame Pentax K-mount cameras. The unique optical design incorporates an apodization (APD) element, as well as two separate diaphragms—8- and 14-blade—to provide separate adjustment over the bokeh as well as the exposure and depth of field. This APD element functions as a radially graduated neutral density filter, and as such limits the light transmission to a T-stop value of 3.2, while permitting the depth of field and selective focus qualities of a true f/2 design.

Alongside the unique attributes of the APD element, the lens also incorporates three low dispersion elements and one extra refractive index element to control chromatic aberrations and color fringing, as well as produce a great deal of overall clarity and sharpness. The lens is also characterized by its manual focus, manual aperture design, that provides a wealth of control over focus and exposure to benefit working with the APD element.

Short telephoto prime designed for full-frame Pentax K-mount cameras, this lens can also be used on APS-C models where it provides a 157.5mm equivalent focal length.

Optical design incorporates an apodization element that helps to improve the quality of bokeh. This element, which resembles a radially graduated ND filter that tapers from clear in the center to more dense around the edges, produces more circular out-of-focus highlights for more pleasing selective focus and shallow depth of field effects.

To control the effect of the apodization element, two separate diaphragms are incorporated in the lens' design: a 14-blade diaphragm that works mainly in conjunction with the APD element to control bokeh, as well as a standard 8-blade diaphragm at the rear of the lens design to control the overall light transmission and affect depth of field.

Due to the incorporation of the APD element, the lens offers an effective light transmission value of T3.2, while the f/2 designation relates mainly toward the potential for selective focus and depth of field control.

Beyond the APD element, the lens also features three low dispersion elements and one extra refractive index element, which combine to limit chromatic aberrations throughout the aperture range and contribute to a high degree of sharpness and clarity.

A manual focus design permits fine-tuned control for focusing as closely as 3' away with a maximum magnification of 0.16x.

Two manual aperture rings enable you to adjust both the exposure-affecting diaphragm as well as the APD-affecting aperture.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is it good to go on Sony 6000 Emount?

A: Venus Optics Laowa 15mm f/4 Macro lens for Sony E will be compatible with the Sony a6000 camera, yes.

Q: 2. Does this lens work with the K-3?

A: Yes it will but work, any K mount lens will. That's the beauty of the K series of cameras and lenses. The thing to watch out for is that this lens is designed for use on a full frame sensor (K1). Putting it on the K3, which has a smaller sensor, will effectively make this lens a 42 - 157mm approx. B&H sell a DA version of this lens which is native to the K3 format

Q: 3. Would the lens shift mode work better when using an A7Rii camera if the the camera were set to crop frame (aps-c) mode? Am I also correct to assume that I would not need to be as close to the subject?

A: You may use the APS-C crop mode while using the Venus Optics Laowa 15mm f/4 Macro Lens for Sony E, but as this is a full-frame lens designed for full-frame sensors, the lens will not work better when set to APS-C mode; the lens will work identical as when using the full sensor, but in APS-C mode, you would simply not get as wide as a view and you would have a smaller maximum resolution due to the smaller frame crop size. While you will still have 6mm, it may appear less as you would not be viewing the lens' full angle of view. Regardless on if the camera is set to full-frame or APS-C mode, the lens' minimum focus distance is 4.72 (12 cm). The distance you are from the subject would simply change the perspective of your view of the subject slightly.

Q: 4. Will this lens work with the Nikon Z6 ?

A: Not natively, you would need to adapt this to the Z mount with a lens adapter like the Nikon FTZ Mount Adapter (https://bhpho.to/2PwU1lm)

Q: 5. Will this lens work on medium format (Hasselblad X1D2...with and adapter of course) with reasonably little vignetting? Not expecting MF detail bit curious as a fun lens with character. I'm a big 9mm Laowa fan.

A: Hi--there would be obvious vignetting using a wide-angle lens like this on a camera with a larger than full-frame sensor like the Hasselblad X1D2.

Q: 6. How many ED elements? How many asph. elements?

A: There is one ED element in this lens.

Q: 7. Will this lens work for a FF Film Pentax Camera MZ-S, With AF, Last Film Camera 2001, Pentax LX previous Model ?

A: This 28-105mm lens from Pentax is designed for the Full frame K-mount system. So this lens would work on any camera that uses K-Mount.

Q: 8. How does this lens perform when the camera is set to bracketing, especially in full frame canon and Nikon cameras? Has anybody tested this?

A: This lens is fully manual in terms of aperture control and focus. If putting the camera in an auto bracket mode, it will not control the exposure through the lens. Manual bracketing would need to be performed in this case.

Q: 9. would this lens work on an a7s in a nauticam housing for underwater macro shots? Looks like it is full manual so is there a focus gear you can get for it?

A: Yes it works w the a7s

Q: 10. Does this lens work with the old film K 1000 camera?

A: The Pentax HD PENTAX-D FA 28-105mm f/3.5-5.6 ED DC WR Lens will fit on to the old Pentax K1000 but you will have no control over the aperture and it will be set to the smallest.

[0.16x] I have struggled with using regular lights of all kinds for macro photography. The first pictures I took with the STF-8 demonstrated why I needed this product. Results were outstanding. The design is well executed. The size of the components are a bit of a challenge for someone with large (old) hands. The included case is just right to protect and organize the components. I believe this will be a very popular component for Olympus macro shooters.

[Manual Focus] I took a big gulp at the price, but bought this flash because I love close up photography, and have found lighting to be challenging. I really love the many combinations of flash you can set for these 2 units, and the results are fantastic! They are a bit fiddly for bigger or arthritic hands, but once you get them set up, they are easy to use.

[f/2] Been using this item for both photography and video. I can say for a wide angle lens, it does keep a straight line (zero d), but do keep in mind that you still have to frame your shot in accordance to angles.

[23° 16'] I am so glad I purchased this as soon as it came available, and whether coupled with my 60mm macro or 50-200mm+25mm ext tube I am getting great well lit images first time out. The lighting permutations are extensive offering various ratios between the heads or manual outputs down to 1/125th. The clip on diffusers do a good job of softening the light and improving coverage at 1:1 magification. It comes in a well made case and Rings to fit the 60mm which I own plus the 12-40 & 40-150mm Pro lenses that I don't but with the purchase of an inexpensive step down ring it also fits my 50-200mm+25mm ext tube with no sign of vignetting.

[Manual Focus] I have tested many super wide lenses for Nikon Z mount, and this one performed the best for my astro landscape work. I use it for spherical panoramas, standard panoramas and single photos that include a lot of sky.

I find the focusing to be easy, simply zoom in as far as one can to do critical focus on stars or use a bahtinov mask. The infinity mark on the lens barrel is not 100% accurate, but it isn't on any lens I have ever used, so that is not on Laowa. The humidity levels and temperature can affect that in my experience, so it's not always in the same spot on all my lenses.

The coma is the lowest among the super wide lenses I tested and is nominal at f/4. Since I shoot at ISo 6400, 12,800 and above this is A-OK.

I love it. I enjoy having it in my bag very much.

[Manual Focus] Using the twin flash with the 60mm macro lens in the field even with a bit of air movement of subject allows for tack sharp images. TTL feature, manual focus and being able to fine tune flash power ratio and location between the two flashes allows for more pleasing images by limiting contrast and shadows. Need more time and practice but works flawlessly so far.

[8] Headline says it all. It's a fantastic lens mounted on your DJI RS2 gimbal, making it perfect for real estate work! It has a hard stop focus ring, so you can use it with the magical DJI 3D Auto Focus system. The lens is plenty sharp and if you have the 1.4 teleconverter, it doubles as a nice 17mm. The lens cap needs some gaffer tape on the tab to keep it from coming loose. with the exception of the lens cover, the performance, build quality, and engineering of this product is very good. Since it's a specialty lens, it's not going to work with your filters, so that could be a problem for some, given the price point.

[67 mm (Front)] This lens is a beast. I bought the rf mount lens for my eos r and it gives me that super wide perspective. I do wish the lens flares were slightly cleaner and auto focus would be nice in some situations but it still definitely gets 5 stars from me especially at this price point. If you do any real estate filming this thing will make small rooms look huge with no distortion of door frames and other straight lines.

[0.16x] This twin flash is just what I needed to go with my 30 and 60mm Olympus Macro lenses with my Olympus EM 1 Mark 11. After reading the instructions, I attached it to my Olympus, set the flash and took some macro of a few thing. The photos were amazing !!!! Details were perfect !!!! No one could ask for a better combination that Olympus has provided than this, for Macro Photography. Jim, Charlotte, NC.

[f/2] Works as advertised. Wide, no barrel distortion (there is *some* distortion but all the lines are straight), wide aperture, solid build. I find this works well on M43 and S35 sensors really well without so much stretching at the edges. Awesome lens and I'm excited to use it more!
