Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. if this is an A mount will this work with an A200?

A: Yes, the Laowa 105mm f/2 Smooth Trans Focus lens will work with the Sony A200. However, due to the A200's older autofocusing system, AF performance will likely be limited by the camera.

Q: 2. Does the replace the Nikon 135mm?

A: The Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 105mm f/1.4E ED Lens is a similar focal length to the Nikon 135mm lens; it doesn't replace it, it's just a different focal length.

Q: 3. Is this compatible with Sony a7rii?

A: Yes it is compatible. Lars D. covers the technical details well. it is a superb focal length for portraits and for isolating the subject from the background. It does take a bit of getting used to ... the effects of the two diaphragms and manual operation, but it is very worth it.

Q: 4. I want to know if this lens has an AE chip built-into in order to get focus confirmation as well as the use of Auto/P/A/S/M shooting modes due to the transmission of lens data to the camera? Thanks

A: The Venus Optics Laowa 105mm f/2 Smooth Trans Focus Lens for Nikon F have no electronic contacts nor an AE chip, so there would be no exposure information, EXIF data, metering, or focus confirmation information transmitted to the camera. This is a fully manual lens.

Q: 5. If the apperture (fstop) and Tstop are controlled separately, does that mean i can be at F2.0 (f2 background blue) while at t8 (t8 light input) ?

A: Short answer, a qualified yes. This lens has beautiful bokeh, and is very easy to use on an e-mount camera. There are two separate aperture rings that produce a single final aperture. The widest final aperture occurs at f2.0 and T3.2. When you set f2.0 and ratchet the T-stop from 3.2 to 8, the final aperture does decrease continuously. The f-stops click, but the T-stops are smooth. At T8, you won't see any real change in the final aperture above about f4. At T3.2, all f stops are useful and the final aperture changes as it clicks through the f-stops. In summary, the T and f stops both allow you to control the final aperture, but it does not magically disconnect bokeh and light transmission.

Q: 6. I was wondering if this lens is compatible with the 3 different Nikon Teleconvertor's 1.4 1.7 2.0 Thank You!

A: I do not use teleconverters, but I don't see why it would not be compatible. Keep in mind if you're using a crop sensor camera, you would already be getting the benefit of the 1.5X factor.

Q: 7. I was wondering if this lens could be used for sports and other fast moving action shots like aircraft at a airshow or racecars at a race track seeing that this lens hasn't got VR on it. Or would I be better off using the 24-70mm f2.8E ED VR lens for taking these pictures seeing that it has VR image stabilisation. Thank You!

A: Has VR

Q: 8. Would the electronic contacts on the mount of this lens physically interfere with anything inside the Nikon F2 film-camera?

A: Venus Optics Laowa 105mm f/2 Smooth Trans Focus Lens for Nikon F electronics wouldn't interfere with the Nikon F2 film camera.

Q: 9. Will the T stop affect my depth of field? If I set f2.0 but T8.0, will I still get the depth of field of f2.0?

A: As you narrow down the T stop on the Venus Optics Laowa 105mm f/2 Smooth Trans Focus Lens for Canon EF the depth of field will also change. You cannot maintain the same depth of field while at the same time changing the T stop unfortunately.

Q: 10. Does that lens fully work (all apertures) with a SLR Nikon F6?

A: Unfortunately, as the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 105mm f/1.4E ED Lens uses a new electromagnetic aperture design, you would not be able to adjust the aperture of the lens when connected to the older Nikon F6 35mm Film SLR Camera. The Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 105mm f/1.4E ED Lens' aperture can only be controlled when used on the following cameras: D5, D4 series, D3 series, Df, D850, D810, D810A, D800 series, D750, D700, D610, D600, D500, D300 series, D7500, D7200, D7100, D7000, D5600, D5500, D5300, D5200, D5100, D5000, D3400, D3300, D3200, D3100, Nikon 1 J1, J2, J3, J4, J5 with FT-1, Nikon 1 V1, V2, V3 with FT-1, Nikon 1 S1, S2 with FT-1.

[0.145 lb] These rings are great! I use them in several sizes with my follow focus gear. They are easy to install, and are as smooth as silk.

[Focus Gear] The gear strip works well with my Panasonic Lumix GH6, which has very small teeth on the focus dial and the zoom dial. (I use it with the zoom dial). You have to make sure you have the gear strip in the right direction when it comes to snapping it on. It will work easily one way but will not work the other. My DJI Ronin RS4 Pro focus motor had no trouble turning the zoom dial with the gear strip.

[Focus Gear] The cavision focus gear ring fits evenly around the focus ring on my Panasonic AG-UG 180 camcorder. Also matches the Cavision focus puller gear and rotates evenly and smoothly. It has a convenient adjustable stop on the gear ring to set at the focus limit.

[0.145 lb] Tired of tie wrap mounts and bulging straps? How about a ridiculously low price? Now you can afford to put gears on ALL your lenses and keep them on as well! I did, 4 Nikon adapted primes, 3 Canon's (zoom and focus gears), and 2 Sigma's (zoom and focus gears). Narrow focus ring? no problem, you can easily slit the ring to 1/2 width, it's pre-cut. This clever size specific slip on design deserves an academy technical award! Go to Tilta's web site for popular lens sizes and measuring instructions.
