The M H -a should charge any EN-EL-3 batteries ( note; this battery has been modified over the years I think???) I have a grey one, the new ones are black. If you are completely uncertain then call Nikon USA tech support. I would just go with the MH-25-a. If you travel a lot you might eventually like a spare as backup as technology can fail; I also carry 2 inverters for the car so I can have backup for in car recharging; on a remote trip to Patagonia my inverter failed; since I have a distrust with technology I just switched the bad one with the spare; also extra batteries are wise and do not use off-brand ones as the Nikon batteries are better despite hype you might hear; off-brand chargers are OK; I have both Nikon and off brand chargers with me in my travels.
