The Matrox Monarch LCS Lecture Capture Appliancefrom Matrox Monarch LCS Lecture Capture Applianceallows you to simultaneously stream and record HDMI/SDI-based video. Expanding on the Monarch HDX, the Monarch LCS features two HDMI inputs, one for video sources and one for computer sources, plus one SDI input. Its dual encoders can process up to two of these three inputs simultaneously. Live content preview is available in both HDMI and SDI outputs. The Monarch LCS is designed to provide a mix of live video footage and/or SDI/HDMI presentation material. Suitable for on-line courses or lectures, video of the instructor can be displayed alongside the class material being referenced.

The Monarch LCS's two H.264 encoders can process each HDMI/SDI signal at up to 1080p30 resolution. These dual streams make multiple modes including PiP, side by side, and dual isolated layouts possible. Select newer third-party video players enable viewers as well as operators to choose layouts. Switcher mode is another Monarch LCS option, offering operators on-the-fly input selection throughout their event.

Mismatched audio and video signals are a thing of the past thanks to the Monarch LCS's frame synchronizer. Frame rate differences are eliminated by synching the computer and audio signals to the video camera signal.

The Monarch LCS Command Center offers easy operation via any device (tablet, etc.) supporting standard web-browsing software (Internet Explorer and Safari fully validated). There are preset encoding and layout options for effortless operation or you can create and save up to eight user-defined setting profiles. Advanced network administrators can employ any VMS software (available separately) to use command controls with the Monarch LCS.

The user can choose between multiple operating modes with preset layouts or can actively alternate inputs in Switcher Mode.

In Isolated mode, the Monarch LCS can be used with select third-party players that allow viewers to choose between layout options.

Choose individual encoding settings for each of the Monarch LCS's two channels. A total of up to 20 Mbps, 1080p30 encoding capacity can be shared across the dual streams.

The Monarch LCS is designed to work with existing network infrastructures using third-party video or lecture management software such as OpenCast or Moodle. It also integrates easily with open-source scheduling programs such as Google Calendar.

Accessible through any web-browser–equipped device on its network, the Monarch LCS Command Center provides a variety of control options. One-click encoding and multiple presets simplify operation for novice users while advanced operators can create and save up to eight custom profiles.

The Monarch LCS records content in MOV or MP4 files, ensuring playback on almost all devices. Record to USB drives, SD cards, or network-mapped drives for use with distance-learning software. It uses RTMP or RTSP protocols to deliver live streams to local servers or cloud-based networks.

Both HDMI and SDI video inputs are supported, offering the option of using whichever best suits your needs. Either embedded HDMI or analog audio can be used as audio sources.

The Monarch LCS resolves any viewing issues arising from varying resolution and frame rates among video, audio, and computer-based content. These different signals are synchronized before encoding, ensuring perfectly aligned video and audio feeds. Integrated frame syncs also correct any breaks in the input signal continuity, providing uninterrupted streaming and recording.

Both the SDI and HDMI outputs remain active while the Monarch LCS is in use. Each output can be mapped to either input. The HDMI output also offers a preview option when the content output is matched to the frame size of the encoding parameters.

A: No license is required for this device.

A: It should be able to work no problem if you are using Thunderbolt 3

Q: 3. Can I run this from a HDMI Port?

A: Matrox does not officially support this.

Q: 4. Would this work coming out of a video switcher if it were configured through the computer's interface first? I have multiple inputs that will go into a seamless switcher/scaler with 1 output, and I want to stretch it across 3 screens without having to purchase a video wall processor.

A: Possibly so, but I think that you would have to start up your computer on the multi-screen so that the software can recognize the connection. It might work either way, but I'm sure there would be the usual delay as it switches. We do not use our box in this way, however, I'm familiar with using a switch.

Q: 5. Does this device record the video as a solid full clip or does it break up the video into multiple clips?

A: Solid clip limited by the memory card size. Monarch HD provides settings for recording your input source for video on demand (VOD), high-quality editing, and archiving/previewing purposes. Content can be recorded to MOV and MP4 file formats on a FAT32 or NTFS file system

Q: 6. can i connect this unit to dell xps 15 only via thunderbolt? No display port on this system.

A: It depends if you have Thunderbolt 3 or 2. If you have Thunderbolt 2, you can use a mini displayport to displayport cable that comes in the box. However, if your port is Thunderbolt 3, then you need a dock such as https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1434940-REG/caldigit_500370_thunderbolt_3_mini_dock.html because there is no cable that is Thunderbolt 3 to Displayport.

Q: 7. Just to make sure I understand this product, I can do display port in, and then (by using adapters) go HDMI out and also VGA out? One monitor has VGA only and the other has HDMI.

A: Yes. You just buy adapters for the format youre wanting to send out and you can mix and match as needed.

Q: 8. can you select the profile and video level?

A: The device will allow for control of scaling options, frame rates, and bitrate structure -- no additional profiles or video level specifications are explicitly defined in the manufacturer's operating instructions for this device.

Q: 9. Does it split the recorded clips into new clips as it records? Or is the recorded clip a full uninterrupted clip?

A: The clips on the SD card are going to be broken up.

Q: 10. can you buy adapters for Hdmi and have 3 screens run from a laptop with an hdmi pot at full 1080p. WIll that work using this to run full 1080 p to 3 screens with adapters?

A: Yes, you can purchase adapters for DisplayPort to HDMI. I would recommend the StarTech adapters (search B&H for DP2HDMI2). However, the maximum 16x9 HD resolution at 60Hz you can get when using three (3) outputs is 1280x720. If you are using 50Hz, then you can accomplish the 1920x1080 resolution you listed. You can see a list of supported resolutions by Matrox on Matrox's website.Note: HDMI is not supported configuration by Matrox, only VGA and DVI, so if you choose to use HDMI, you basically run the risk of it not working. The main issue is that HDCP (High Definition Content Protection) comes into play with computers.

[AAC-LCS] We bought ours in 2015 and had a fair number of problems initially but firmware updates sorted it out. Now on firmware 2.1.9.0026 (I assume there are newer versions but this works for us). We've streamed thousands of hours of lectures without issues. I can't recall the last time the box was restarted. 5

[4.065 lb] I am using it to record. The fact that it can record to a standard .MOV or .MP4 file allows me to hand a copy of the event on an SD card, to my customer as soon as the event it over. No transcoding, no wasted time. I love it! The best part is that I record 2 copies, one to the SD card and another to a network mapped drive. Talk about back up to my back 5

[1.3 lb (0.6 kg)] Very nice encoder, easy web configuration interface. Crestron module available for control but I had to edit the module to correct command syntax, but once I did that no have full control over both start/stop streaming & recording with full status feedback from the unit. Works great on the bench- time will tell with customer as they start using it. I do notice that 100% white values going into the encoder don't encode out at 100% but slightly less- like a very light gray... Did not find any menu settings inside the unit that could be adjusted to fix this... but probably only noticeable with static graphic content such as a spread sheet or word document. Recording worked well with class 10 sd card, attempted with usb stick but I didn't have a high performance stick around to use- worked OK with the usb stick I used. Setting up with youtube and facebook was easy- seemed to handle both RTMP and RTMPS just fine. I even was able to use the youtube pairing feature without any issues. Overall so far I am please with the device! 5
