A: From what I understand, it does not have a firmware update, but as Rokinon herself can help in this quest, I only have more difficulties regarding the agility of the focus.

Q: 2. Is the video autofocus on this lens on par with Sony lenses? Lots of mixed reviews out there. I see there are firmware updates on the lens, but you cannot purchase the docking station in the US to update!

A: I have used it somewhat and it has had equal autofocus to my Sony lenses, but does hunts sometimes. But for the price it is the best lens in this price range. I have tried multiple Zeiss and other sony alike. This Sony SEL50F18 50mm f/1.8 Lens for Sony E Mount Nex Cameras (Black) - FixedThe lens is also a great choice for the price.

A: According to Adobe, a minimum of version 6.7 or 9.7 of Lightroom will offer the lens correction profile for the Samyang AF 50mm f/1.4 EF II Lens for Sony E.

A: It will work on the A6300 and the A6000 but your camera has a crop sensor. The field of view will change do to the crop factor of the sensor. Focal Length remains the same. Its like taking a full frame image and cropping to a smaller size. Focal Length remains 50mm. This lens is designed for a full 35mm sized sensor but will be just as happy on your camera as well.

Q: 9. whats the difference between the Rokina 50mm f 1.4 and samyang 50mm f 1.4?

A: Samyang manufacturers Rokinon lenses and normally their lenses that match in focal length and f/stop are the same quality. However, the Rokinon AF 50mm f/1.4 FE Lens for Sony E B&H # RO5014AFSE is auto focus and auto aperture while the Samyang 50mm f/1.4 AS UMC Lens for Sony E B&H # SA50F14LSE is all manual. That is the reason for the price differential.

Q: 10. Has anyone used this for video? I shoot in manual but have used the native sony lenses in the past with AF and Face Detection, wondering how this compares.

[Sony E] If an f1.4 35mm is what you are looking for the Rokinon/Samyang at $400 US this has to be the best bang-for-your-dollar in photography. It’s sharp, has gorgeous bokeh and is solidly built out of metal. It compares well against options three times its price. The only drawback is its weight and if a light 35mm for use on a gimbal is your goal one of the f1.8 lenses might be a better way to go. 5

[Autofocus] Cannot praise this lens enough! It creates such a nice and beautiful cinematic look for my films! I HIGHLY recommend his lens for anybody who is looking to make there films one step better. Great investment and the AF is fantastic, just as good as the Sony lenses. Grab yourself one, you won’t regret it. 5

[47°] Firstly, the noise of the AF isn’t loud enough to disturb a wedding ceremony or anything. It’s not an issue as a photo only guy. Second, the rendering of the background is very smooth! Third, the autofocus isn’t great in continuous, it stutters a bit. I keep mine in AFS. Fourth, it’s a big lens. A little bigger than a typical 85mm f/1.8 and about as heavy. Fifth, minimum focus distance is quite good! Not a macro lens but I was surprised. Sixth, chromatic aberrations are very well controlled. I’m pretty picky and I happy. It’s a bit worse at min focus distance. It’s not your typical green and purple stuff either, it’s more blue and orange. Lastly, I’m very pleased overall. The T-stop is faster than other 50mm lenses and the vignetting is pretty light. Sharpness is good. Colors are good. Contrast is average. Bang for buck is excellent. 5

[0.15x] I was debating since my girlfriend is with Sigma, I wanted something temporary as my everyday lens but since I bought it its my go to. It feels sturdy, solid and has a great feel. [f/1.4] A good lens made better with firmware v33. Increases speed of AF significantly on A7III. Older AF motors are not silent but are not noisy for stills. Good colors, sharpness, and focus fall off. 5

[f/16] I've had this lens for about 6 months. When using on my A7RV, I find the AF to be quick and consistently accurate without issues others have reported. I did update firmware when I received the lens. I own 2 others Rokinon's along with Sony and Tamron lenses and found this lens as good as all my other lenses 5

[Autofocus] After tried bunch of lenses, i think i found my portrait lens. Of course i recomend Sony Zeiss lenses but if you have a tight budget and looking for wide aperture prime lens you can get it without question. I love close and low light shoot, autofocus is slower than Sony 50mm 1.4 but i don't use af much. Sharpness is quite good, contrast is little bit low. Bokeh are amazing. Focus ring is smooth and sensitive, this is give you a chance of make focus with small movements. Focus motor is noisy (if you will use af in video and don't have external mic think about it.) 5

[Autofocus] Superb lens, super sharp all the way to f1.4, blow me away the sharpness of this lens, scares me I taught that it was going to be ok lens but waoo. Is very fast autofocus and accurate, use it at weddings in super low light situations no broblems at all focusing. now I will going to buy the rokinon 14mm f2.8... 5

[Full-Frame] This lens is amazing for photography but there are little issues that videographers might want to ovoid this lens. The lens has amazing image quality, but the auto focus is some what 80% accurate. It struggles when objects get a little to close which means that lens has to refocus which it takes some tries, but at the end it locks to whatever you want to focus on. The lens makes some noise when Focusing but it’s not that bad compare to the cheap 50 mm f1.8 lens that Sony sells. I’m not really into video a lot but I wanted to test out the auto focus on this camera and I gotta be honest with you, it’s not really that good because it struggles a little but it’s decent and don’t get me started with manual focus because it makes a lot of noise when trying to focus on something. But at the end of the day this is Rokinas first auto focus lens which is not bad and I am actually very satisfied with my purchase because this lens is worth the money! So if your into photography I suggest you pick up this lens as your first lens for you Alpha camera because you won’t regret it. * The bokeh is butter* 5

[f/1.4] I have a Sony a7 and i'm totally satisfied with this lens, i think the price is incredible and i think that it will increase in few months because it's simply amazing, the quality it's great. The AF Works very good, better than I expected. The bad thing it's the minimun focus distance about 0.45m. So if you want great quality without pay for a CZ Lens and without use mount adapter this is a very good option. 5
