Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does the size of the modeling lamp have an effect on ability to use the full zoom range of the fresnel light modifier?

A: Just a caution that longer modeling lamps will have to be removed to avoid impact with the front of the fresnel - but it does not affect flash performance or quality of light.

Q: 2. Is the Fresnel lens glass or plastic?

A: The fresnel lens is made of glass.

Q: 3. Is it a fitting for amaran 200 or 100?

A: This fresnel can fit the Amaran 100d and 200d.

Q: 4. Is this Impact fresnel spot compatible with the Impact 180Ws Monolight Starter Flash with LED Modeling Light?

A: The Impact 180Ws Monolight Starter Flash with LED Modeling Light and the Impact Fresnel Spot S-Mount Attachment (10-40°) are physically compatible products. However, when the Fresnel is set at its widest position the LED pattern from the Monolight is projected clearly on a white surface. When the light is focused tightly the LED pattern is less obvious.

Q: 5. how does this attach to the flash? is there some other accessory or adapter you have to buy?

A: This product would fit any flash head which uses a S-type mount such as those from Impact, Bowens, Interfit or Phottix.

Q: 6. Does this work for a Genaray Portabright?

A: Yes, they work together. The Impact Fresnel Spot S-Mount Attachment (10-40°) has the Bowens mount and the Genaray PortaBright uses the Bowens S mount.

Q: 7. Does the "100W" limitation refer to tungsten or LED? The heat from a 300W LED is significantly less than a 300W tungsten.

A: The Impact Fresnel Spot S-Mount Attachment (10-40°) is compatible with LED lights up to 100W.

Q: 8. I am trying to use this with a Bowen Gemini 500R and it does not fit, Any suggestions?

A: It should fit, just measure to see if the Bayonet attachment spacing is correct.

Q: 9. I have Bowens Gemini 400s and I cannot get the lugs to engage this device. I have compared the size and spacing and they seem to match. Any suggestions?

A: I ran into the same issue with my Dynalite Baja's. The rear of the assembly on the fresnel was bumping up against the front of the light assembly. I filed about 1/8th of an inch off of the back of the lugs and it worked great. Hope this helps!

Q: 10. Are there any barn door accessories that fit this Fresnel?

A: While this model doesn't offer optional barndoors, the Aputure Fresnel 2X Attachment would be a good alternative that does. https://bhpho.to/34l37Lt

[Boxer] Not a really heavy fresnel, but well made and a good bargain. Mostly plastic which is fine for me since I'm using LEDs and dont need to worry about heat.

[10°] The low price of this light modifier makes it an attractive choice compared to a hot light Fresnel provided you have an light that uses Bowen, S-mount attachments. I used it only with monolights. At the 10 degree end I throws wonderfully sharp shadows, and even when zoomed in to 40 degrees the shadows are defined, if not as hard. You do have to be careful about the modeling light, however. If your modeling light sticks out more than 3 inches from where the mount attaches, then you will be limited in the zoom range, with the limit on the wide end.

[10°] Bought this to go with my GVM LS-P80S LED fixture. Fits right on the Bowens mount and the spot adjustment moves well enough. The light comes with 4 colored filters that snap on the front of the attachment. I separated the plastic holder by prying it apart. I put in some CTO 3/4 so that I could get Tungsten color for the GVM LED. Works like a charm. Not sure how this Fresnel compares to the Aperture but for my needs this will work fine. Good value for the $.

[10°] The Bowen's mount impact Fresnel Spot is not going to take the place of your honeycomb grids but does offer a focusing beam control option at a very reasonable price point! Complete with a CTO and teal green filter that easily attaches. Build quality is fair so I am not sure how long it will last but for the price you can't go wrong!

[10°] A very decent zoomable Fresnel attachment for spot lighting. Maybe not the best or among the best but it surely does what it is meant for. Also, there are 4 included light gels that make it more competitive. I definitely recommend this.

[10°] I did my test on the Genaray Powerhouse PH300-LED using a light meter at 100% intensity.

According to the light meter (and to my eye) the
Impact Fresnel Spot S-Mount Attachment at full flood is equal in light output to the Aputure Fresnel 2x at 20 degrees.

The reason I compared the Impacts flood to the Aputures 20 degrees is because the Genaray Powerhouse LED light is the brightest at these settings (I tested the light output at numerous degree settings).    Therefore I am comparing brightest to brightest - apples to apples.

It is equal beyond 1 meter.  For some reason at 1 meter or below the Aputure Fresnel 2x is brighter by 67%.

Therefore for the price and space and weight savings (the Impact Fresnel weighs almost nothing and is teeny tiny as opposed to the Aputure Fresnel 2x which is built like a tank and is as big as a tank).

In terms of light leakage and cutting, I didnt notice a difference between them on the Genaray Powerhouse.  The results may be different on the Aputure 300D and 120D.

My tests are as follows:
1 Meter: Aputure 2x = 50,000 Lux, Impact = 30,000 Lux
10 feet: Aputure 2x = 1,500 Lux, Impact = 1,500 Lux
20 feet: Aputure 2x = 1,000 Lux, Impact = 1,000 Lux
24 feet: Aputure 2x = 600 Lux, Impact = 600 Lux

Therefore if you are using the same light as me, the Genaray Powerhouse, then just buy this Fresnel instead of wasting money on any other fresnel.
