Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I have an old (1986) Minolta 35mm film camera. Will this film work in that camera?

A: The following Minolta cameras have an infrared film counter, which will fog (pre-expose) infrared film: Maxxum 70, 50, 7, 5, 4, 3, XTsi, HTsi, HTsi Plus, STsi, QTsi, 300si, 400si, 500si. Older Minolta cameras such as the SRT101 and similar mechanical cameras can be safely used with infrared film.

Q: 2. Many people are saying that they're using a r72 IR filter. Why do you need this if the film is sensitive to only IR?

A: To get the full effect if IR, a filter is needed, that has always been the case. A deep red filter enhances the infrared effect.

Q: 3. Your blurb says "a cross-processed look with saturated colors and iconic grain". Don't you mean de-satuated here?

A: For the Lomography LomoChrome Metropolis 2021 100-400 Color Negative Film, unique chemical formulas set the LomoChrome color negative films apart. The brand-new, experimental 2021 formula LomoChrome Metropolis features punchy contrasts and muted tones with intense pops of color. Some sample photos can be found here: https://bit.ly/3L7i4GJ.

Q: 4. I am interested in this film, however, It's difficult to discern what the characteristics of the product are. "Altered hue, saturation, and contrast" does not communicate much to me about the product. The description is essentially: "it's different". How so? Is the contrast increased or decreased, vs something 'standard' like - say - Fujifilm X-tra 400? In what way is the hue altered? Could you describe how the saturation is altered? Hoping to hear back because this sounds like interesting film!

A: KONO Delight ART 400 Color Negative Film, each roll is handmade and tinted and is different per roll being hand made. Kono says, the effect will be more muted if you overexpose the film. But if you underexpose it, it’s going to become more intense.

Q: 5. Will the outcome with a Lee #87 be comparable to a screw on r72 filter (Lee better with multiple lenses)?

A: Yes, I believe the 72 filter is just as good to use as the 87 filter. I hope that helps.

Q: 6. Given that this film is less sensitive to IR light than visible light, what ASA should it be shot at for infrared photography?

A: It depends on the filter you use with the Rollei Infrared 400 Black and White Negative Film (35mm Roll Film, 36 Exposures). Some say, exposing the film at a maximum of ISO 25 and using an R72 dark red infrared filter or deeper infrared filter. Note it takes experimentation and trial and error

Q: 7. Can this film be developed in Ilford ILFOTEC DD-X Developer? What is the developing time using the Ilford ILFOTEC DD-X Developer? any recomendations?

A: Hi Ali,So far I have only used Kodak D-76 (1:1), I have been delighted with my results..I don't know if ILFOTEC DD-X compares with D-76.Good Luck enjoy the Film!!!

Q: 8. Where do you send it for processing? Does it get processed as B&W film?

A: Definitely can develop as BW... I process the BW but I would vouch for The Darkroom Lab if you have anything complex or want high quality

Q: 9. Would this film work for IR flash photography at night with an infrared flash?

A: Rollei Infrared 400 Black and White Negative Film (35mm Roll Film, 36 Exposures) is suitable for night photography with an infrared flash.

Q: 10. I work at a photo lab and today I got two rolls of this kind of film. The emulsion is on the wrong side. Every roll of 35mm film I've ever seen has the darker, smoother side on the outside or in other words the same side as the print on the canister it sits in, these rolls I developed today had the emulsion facing the wrong way. Is this film always like this? I have personally shot a roll of the purple lomo and it is oriented the same way as all the other 35mm films I have seen. Is this a fluke or intentional? If it's intentional what would be the purpose for it to be that way? Thanks.

A: It's purposefully rolled that way. The film is redscale because you're shooting through the back of the film.

[400] At first glance, I thought it was a wasted roll, but after some color corrections in Lightroom, the warm tones were there while still highlighting the natural colors that modern slide film highlights. I will definitely shoot with it again to see if I can fine tune the exposure a bit.

[Color Negative] Step 1. Buy this stock
Step 2. Put it in your camera
Step 3. Slap on an 812 filter

Now I just need to get one of those old slide projectors

[3 x 2.2 x 1.4"] As others have noted, this is Ektachrome 5294 movie film, spooled in to cassettes, for 35mm still cameras. It has great color, and saturation, as well pleasing skin tones. Like its sold by Kodak Alaris counterpart, it is a great all around film. I use it for all occasions, both in the studio, and outdoors. Since it is a movie film, it doesn't have frame numbers along the edges; not a big deal, just something to note.

[36] From another world, but a pleasing one. The colors are just off-kilter enough to be pleasing; if Kodachrome was reconstructed with whimsy, it would be this film.

[400] this came out exactly the way I wanted to photos to come out. It gives it a cool tone retro look. I think the lighting really helped it as I went to a cemetery during the golden hour. Also the residents were really easy to work with and i got perfect shadowing. i will definetly by this film again.
