Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How would I connect this to a mic stand? Is there a way to do so that would not involve screwing it on (to release it more quickly)?

A: You could try using a mic quick release adaptor. It's a device you would mount to the stand and screw the MV51 into that would allow for you to separate the two with a quick intentional motion (varies by model). Shure does not make one, however there are various models available from other manufacturers, such as the GFW-MIC-QRTOP from Gator Frameworks.

Q: 2. Are there any photos of this on a mic? Would like to see that

A: We do not have any images with microphones attached to the The Hook Studios TH-842-L Pop Filter for Large-Diaphragm Front-Address Microphones, (BH #TH842L).

Q: 3. would this fit the Sanken c41?

A: The Sanken CU-41 dimensions: 50mm (2 inches) diameter. Although not tested with this microphone specifically, the Auray mount should be able to accommodate the Sanken CU-41 two-inch diameter.

Q: 4. does this support the Samson Gtrack Pro?

A: Thank you for your question. This shockmount will not fit the G track. You can use the Samson SP04 (BH #SASP04TB)

Q: 5. Will this fit an Electro Voice RE20 or RE320?

A: The Auray BSM-35R Suspension Shockmount for Broadcast, Podcast & Large-Diaphragm Condenser Microphones is specified with microphone diameters of up to 2.1 inches. The Electro-Voice RE20 and RE320 Microphones have diameters of 2.13 and 2.14 inches respectively, which likely disqualifies them from compatibility with the BSM-35R.

Q: 6. Will this work with my MacBook Pro that only has USB-C inputs?

A: Yes, USB-c cable included in the box.

Q: 7. Will this fit the Sennheiser MK4?

A: Yes, the Auray SHM-SCM1 Suspension Shockmount for Large-Diaphragm Condenser Microphones is compatible for use with the Sennheiser MK 4 Large-Diaphragm Cardioid Condenser Microphone.

Q: 8. Does the Shure MOTIV MV51 work with the iPhone 4?

A: It is designed for iOS products with a lightning connector only. An adapter has not been tested nor is using one recommended.

Q: 9. Will Scarlett CM25 MkIII fit?

A: The issue with ldc mics is that there is no mounting standards. The Rycote Universal ldc shock-mount is an option: BH #RYINVUSM

Q: 10. Will this fit the Shure SM7B Vocal Microphone?

A: No, the Auray BSM-35R Suspension Shockmount for Broadcast, Podcast & Large-Diaphragm Condenser Microphones will not accommodate the 2.5" diameter of the Shure SM7B Vocal Microphone. The BSM-35R works best with microphone diameters of up to 2.1 inches that feature M20 or M22 threads. The SM7B also integrates a shock mount into its build that is sufficient for most scenarios and mounting directly to arms and stands.

[Mono] I've been looking for a mic that would be a slight upgrade over the basic level of microphones for a while. We are using dynamic mics for podcasting because they pick up less background noise. I tried a couple of mics in the $80-100 range and felt that they did a fair job, but I wanted to see if I could find a little bit of an upgrade without spending $350-400. And honestly I also wanted something that looks a little bit more professional on camera since we video the podcast as well. I love the sound we're getting out of this mic as well as the functional design and look of it. We bought a 2nd one within a week. The mic comes with a very nice (but big) case, a fantastic shock mount and a great foam windscreen that both works great and looks good. My only criticism of this thing is the little fastening knob on the base of the shock mount that locks in the angle of the mic from the mic stand. The know is tiny, made of plastic and very hard to tighten enough. This mic is VERY heavy so you really need a good knob on there to tighten it. You will also need a solid mic stand or this mic is going to make it fall over or drop. Don't buy a cheap stand/arm. The weight makes the mic feel super solid though. It doesn't really matter,I know, but I love handling this thing.

[Hypercardioid] This is an equal to the other dynamic broadcast microphones. It rejects room noise well and sounds more like a condenser mic than a dynamic mic. Very well suited to podcasting, voiceover, and broadcast. I'm surprised that it hasn't risen to popularity alongside the other dynamic mics in its price category.

[5.65 lb] At least with my voice it sounds amazing. Both for recording voice overs and singing.

Be extremely careful with the switches, they WILL break if you apply too much pressure to them. I have seen this happen in many reviews, so I am handling this little guy very carefully.

Other than that, build quality is great, it feels solid and as I have mentioned, the sound is just nonsense for a $200 microphone.

I guess a professional singer or voice actor would need a much expensive one to get specific jobs done, but for the vast majority of us this microphone is more than perfect.

BTW, I am using a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2.

[Solid-State] I've recorded one audiobook with this mic and I love it. No need for a popfilter, it's a very forgiving mic but still gives a great full sound, I started with the AT 4033CL and this mic sounds everybit as good with out picking up dogs barking a block away. I'm half way done with my second project and I'm not going to add any post work to it, no need. The shock mount is a cheap feeling polymer plastic but its held up great and has a quick release that is usefull. It does take allot of gain to push this mic I use a FetHead with a Clarett 2pre set at 7 to get about -3db of head room in Logic pro X with a floor of around -60 to -55.

[Black] I have a unit for one year and have been using it for all vocal recordings (in my home stutio) for my band since then. It's no surprise for me that it's capsule is known as "refference". Since it's the best mic I own, I avoid bringing it to the road, but I have used if a couple times in reharsals and the result was just spectacular. I experienced a great sound capture with NO FEEDBACK AT ALL even in moments when I was closer to the speakers than I should. My advice is: If you want a dynamic to make you impressed with a studio-like quality in live situations, just buy it!

[Solid-State] I own several mics (including AKG D5, and the usual Beta58 and 58). For my voice the D7 is the best. Open and cut the mix. The D5 is too muddy for me. The beta 58 is also fine but on my voice (baritenor) it is more middle.
The best remains the D7.
