[CRI 85] This is a solid piece of gear if you're looking for a ring light. The solution that I was looking for was a ring light for specialized portraits. A secondary consideration was that I wanted it to be portable. I initially purchased one of those $100+/- ring lights. They may be great for macro work but they were rubbish for doing portraits. They threw a lot of light but it was largely bad light. The build quality on the Fotodiox ring is outstanding. Totally solid! The variable and stepless control of the amount and temp. of the light is a huge plus for portrait work. The batteries are good and the accessories that are included in the kit are good as well. The carrying case is well made. I thought it curious that there were no instructions included in the box. Maybe a ring light doesn't require a lot of explanation but I was curious about charging the batteries. I have no problem recommending this product to anyone. That said there are a few considerations that you need to keep in mind. One is specific to this light and the other is just a general observation about using this type of ring light. You can mount the light on a light stand and shoot through it. That's really not a problem unless you're like me and like to move around a lot while you're shooting. If you're not going to mount the light on a stand then you need to attached it to your camera. MOST of the hardware is included but that rails that you'll need are not. I had some long rails (24) around but they're not good for this application. I ordered a set of 6 rails and they work perfectly. The second observation is that you need to work REALLY close to your model and I'm talking inches not feet. If you back away the ring catch lights in the model's eyes just turn into a solid circle. Careful of your model's eyes. If this is going to be your only light it's probably not a smart first light choice. But if you're just trying to change things up a bit it's a fun tool.

[Proprietary] I have only used it for zoom meetings so far. I'll try some portraits later when I can have subjects over. It is very light so it's easy to transport.

[LCD] I have to do 2-3 actors self tapes a week and had been working with a tripod, my apartment lights and some natural light, and my iPhone. But there were issues, I had to tape in daylight or my apartment light wasn't sufficient, etc. Now with this ring light I can tape any time, it comes with it's own tripod, and the iPhone holder with a bendable neck allows me to adjust this much more finely than with a generic iPhone attachment on my other tripod.


I also find the design of the whole package thoughtful. The stand, the light, and the batteries/charger all have dedicated places in the well structured case. The only issue I had with this is that the cardboard box that it came in has a somewhat weak bottom and my case + contents fell out on the way home, but not a disaster, just be ready to carry this by the bottom and not just the handle.

[CRI 85] I have been using this light for about a year for dental procedure videos. It lights up what we need to see with a beautiful soft light. I put our Panasonic 4K camera head behind it on a rail system hanging from a jib. It's done wonders for the quality of our videos.

[Yes] The ring light itself is is well built. The stand is light weight, but plenty strong for the light. The only weak point I see is the hinge which connects the light to the stand. The color and strength of the light is fantastic. It's intuitive to use. Wish it came with a remote, but overall I'm really happy with this purchase.

[9.6 lb] I love this light, it is very sturdy, bright enough to light any room with controls to customize for your desired brightness. The bag and stand are easy to deploy and pack and go on the fly. Has a nice camera mount for professional and cell phone camera use.

[CRI 85] Working via telehealth since the outbreak, I need something flexible. The stand is just right, heavy enough to support the load but not overdone. The lighting adjustments, for both color temperature and intensity, are great. For some lights the intensity can only go so low, this one works with fine levels of adjustment. Also, this is not using filters to change color temp. Those lights were either too cold, or too warm and that's all I could get.



There are cheaper lights, but if you want something that will deploy in a mix of environments, on battery or plugin, with good intensity and great ability to adjust to the situation, I highly recommend this light.
