[0.21 lb] Usually the macro illumination is flat and low contrast, with this flashlight adapts to the different needs of the subject as to highlight transparencies, villi, mirror glitter, etc. It is a bit large but it must be so to achieve the required illumination. It is light and very practical for dramatic lighting. A mini studio. Suitable for zoom lenses up to 105mm if rear lighting (backlight) is desired.

[0.21 lb] Wow, what a great macro twin flash lighting system! I am now able to hand hold my camera and get 1:1 macro images of bees, bugs, etc. I am really impressed with it, and it is so much cheaper than Canon's twin flash. I like that I can move the light and position it closer, or further away, I can change the strength of the light, etc. If you are at all serious about macro, it is well worth the money!

[0.21 lb] I rate the ease of use and results of this flash 5 stars, but rate the ruggedness as 2 stars. My first flash was broken right out of the box. Big reason to buy from B&H, they made the exchange low stress, no questions asked. The flexible plastic flash arms are ball and bell shaped socket construction. One of the sockets was split, so the arm would separate. The friction between each ball and its socket is high, the arm is very stiff. This probably contributes to the plastic socket splitting. The replacement flash was OK. I put a drop of penetrating oil on each ball/socket interface in the new flash. This helped reduce the friction and made the arm more flexible. Also, there is not +/- indicator on the battery contacts. There are raised dimples to make contact with the end of the AA sized batteries. The small dimple is for the battery + side, the large dimple is for the battery - side. I used a Milwaukee Inkzall permanent marker to label the + and - dimples on the metal contacts. The flash manual never denotes the polarity for inserting the batteries. Another reviewer noted he destroyed his flash because he inserted the batteries reversed. This flash will stay at my house, I do not plan to use it in the field. It is too flimsy to take much hard use. Otherwise, this is a good flash.

[0.21 lb] After you get over the comedic yet practical design and test this unit, you should find (as I did) the ease of use and adjustability makes this little strobe very appealing in situations where time is of the essence. Yes, it could have been made automatic however, today's digital cameras advantage supersede the era of slide film etc. and allow a quick test of exposure that is repeatable. The modeling light is good.
Diffuse/ backlight/ color gel/ a mini studio...Use the Eneloop Pro Panasonic rechargeable batteries for this unit. Good build quality/ price. Very capable unit in right hands / not a toy. I shoot this with a Lumix S1r with excellent results.

[0.21 lb] The KX-800 allows you to position two flashes to recreate studio-like lighting scenarios for your macro subjects. I bought it to illuminate subjects close to the front element in wide-angle macro shots with my Laowa 15mm f4 1x macro, but I also use it with my other macro lenses.

However, the flashes desperately need diffusion. While a diffuser set is available from overseas vendors, B&H doesn’t offer it. I am using diffusers for popup camera flashes.
