The Schneider Xenon FF 18mm T2.4 Lens Sony E Mountwith Sony E mount is part of the Xenon FF set of lenses. FF stands for full-frame, and every lens in the set covers a full-frame image sensor without vignetting, designed for 4K image capture. This lens is color-matched to a standard at the factory, minimizing color shift when changing lenses. It features a 14-blade iris, providing a natural-looking bokeh with circular, out of focus highlights, and 300° of lens barrel rotation. The 18mm shares the same focus and iris gear position, as well as the same 100mm front barrel diameter with the other lenses in the Xenon FF line of lenses (although the 18mm does not have a front filter thread as do the other focal lengths).

The lens features a barrel with a large circumference, providing wide spacing for focus marks in feet. Opposing focus scales provide properly oriented focus marks on both sides, so an assistant can pull focus from either side of the lens. Lens gears for focus and iris allow you to use the lens with industry-standard lens accessories. The 18mm features a removable lens support bracket, so you can use an available lens support if you wish. The lens is designed to allow a lens technician to swap mounts between available Canon EF, ARRI PL, and Nikon F mounts, so you can avoid using adapters and solidly mount the lens to your camera.

The lenses are designed to cover a full-sized image sensor and provide 4K resolution for image capture.

The lenses are color-matched to a standard, ensuring consistent color across lenses. This allows you to purchase additional Xenon FF lenses without having to search through multiple lenses trying to assemble a matched set.

The lenses share the same physical characteristics across the set, including length, diameter, and focus and iris gear positions. This speeds up lens changes in the field, minimizing adjustments to matte boxes and lens accessories.

300° of lens barrel rotation provides for accurate focus adjustments throughout the range.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What date is this item actually shipping? On the internet it looks like this item was to be ready for April, now May? Is it confirmed yet?

A: ZEISS made the first shipment of the Batis 2.8/18 in early May. The second shipment is scheduled for early June, with regular deliveries thereafter.

Q: 2. Has anyone used Breakthrough Photography filters with this lens? Any vignetting or other issues?

A: This lens has a 77mm filter thread, you should be able to use a filter like B&H # BRX4ND377 without any issues.

Q: 3. Is an IBIS body necessary for sharp handheld photos? What would you use for shutter speed? Thanks.

A: It is a common misconception that camera/lens stability is not necessary with wide angle lenses. IBIS or tripod would be best, 1/30 or 1/60 sec. shutter should be OK unless you hands are unusually shaky.

Q: 4. Is this a full frame lens for the Sony a7sii?

A: Yes, the ZEISS Batis lenses cover a full-frame sensor and are compatible with any of the A7 or A9 cameras. More details about this lens can be read at the ZEISS website: a href= https://www.zeiss.com/camera-lenses/int/photography/products/batis-lenses/batis-2818.html target= _blank https://www.zeiss.com/camera-lenses/int/photography/products/batis-lenses/batis-2818.html/a

Q: 5. Do the measurements of this lens include the hood? The specs say it is Dimensions (DxL)Approx. 3.94 x 3.15 (100 x 80 mm) which seems super wide. Thanks.

A: The hood is 100mm in diameter at the widest point--which is the widest point on the unit. The entire unit is 120mm long including the hood and the rear cap.Without the hood, the front of the unit (including body surround) is 90mm in diameter. The filter is threaded for a 77mm diameter filter. The front of the exposed lens glass is only about 39mm in diameter.Without the hood or the rear cap, the length of the unit is 80mm.So, the dimensions you were quoted are somewhat inconsistently applied. Your diameter dimension of 100mm is indeed the diameter of the hood. However, the length dimension is a measurement of the bare lens unit without hood or rear cap.

Q: 6. How many aperture blades does this 18-mm Batis have?

A: It has 9 aperture blades, razor sharp and fast auto focus.

Q: 7. Would this work with Fuji X mount?

A: No this is Sony E mount

Q: 8. Batis 18. Will a B+W circular polarizer nano fit the lens with hood attached? Ordering this week. Thanks

A: Using a polarizer with an ultra-wide lens like the Basis 18 is problematic. The sky is only polarized in a narrow band 90 degrees from the sun, so you will see a dark, diagonal streak in the blue sky. Banding is less noticeable if you use the polarizer to control reflections.

Q: 9. Does a lens profile exists for use with Lightroom 5? If so, where can I downloaded from?

A: Yes, but you need to update your lightroom 5 to lightroom CC if I am not mistaken. As you continuously update lightroom and adobe camera raw, new lenses from major manufacturer will usually be supported.

Q: 10. I'm more concerned with achieving straight vertical buildings for architectural photography. Trying to decide between the batis 18m and the canon 17mm tilt shift lens, or between 25 batis and 24 canon shift tilt. Given that Lightroom has greatly improved vertical perspective lens correction what are the advantages of the tilt shift lens over using LR lens correction with the Batis? Which would give better vertical perspective results?

A: For precise architectural photography you must use a tilt shift. Despite its qualities, any wide angle lens will give you some degree of distortion in the lines. However, these distortions could be fixed in PS...still purists would say that they still see distortion. Can't you get a Canon adapter for the tilt-shift?

[4.01 lb] I mounted the lens on a Sony A-7R iii. The lens was very sharp in the center and maintained that sharpness except at the extreme edges if you were shooting a scene in the landscape mode. At 100%, the edges looked reasonably sharp but upon blowing the image up a bit more, I could see some fall-off. However, adding some additional sharpness at the extreme edges was easy with the adjustment brush in Adobe Camera Raw. Contrast and color renditions were excellent and I didn't find vignetting to be an issue at the time of day I was doing my tests. I chose mid-afternoon because I wanted to do my test shots in strong light. I know there can be some vignetting with this lens in lower light situations but that is also an easy fix in Adobe Camera Raw. In sum, this is a very fine lens and the slight fall-off in sharpness at the extreme edges was not a deal breaker for me, particularly at its price.

[Imperial] Recently got these lenses and have used them for almost two months across various projects, from commercials in New York to a short film in Miami. Here's what stood out:

- Exceptional build quality.
- Impressive brightness with an aperture of 1.9, resulting in beautiful bokeh.
- Consistent weight across the lenses – a real game changer when working with gimbals.
- Comes with a good quality practical carrying case for five essential lenses.
- Top-notch optical performance: no focus breathing noticed, acceptable distortion.

For indie filmmakers, these are a top pick. Highly recommended.

[Imperial] Incredible lenses that punch way above their weight class! Blown away by the build quality and image quality. The only thing I'd change is adding a longer lens! Like a 110mm or 135

[4.01 lb] This is the best EF Cine wide-angle lens that I have seen to date. And the color rendition matches perfectly with the other Xenon FF Lenses that we use.

[4.01 lb] I am thrilled and excited to work with this new lens, I went into the store to buy another lens but when I experienced the high quality of this lens I bought it on the spot and have not regretted it. It is sharp, fast, and brilliantly crafted. Years ago I used to use a Leica camera and I had the same kind of thrill with the lens, it is worth the money to get such excellence.
